Sounds great. Especially tuned down or using 7 string. A lot more calmer and cleaner on the distortion. I used to have the evh iconic 6L6 tube amp. I might just get this model your playing. Thanks for demo videos.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos! 😄 the EL34 definitely has a calmness about it. I hear it in the EQ side of things. It's great for buttery leads
I have the 100 watt stealth el34 and I gotta say I’m really wanting this one. I wouldn’t say I like this more but I would use this amp as a gigging amp so I can keep my stealth safe at home. Like it actually “does the thing” and for much less money than my stealth. Fender and evh really knocked it out of the park with this one.
I own a 5150 Iconic 6L6 version that I use with a Marshall 1960A cab loaded with G12T-75's. I use the green channel only and boost my leads using an EQ in the effects loop. My main sound is driven with an ISET Booster and the thing kicks major butt. I also run two noise killers - One in the input and the other in the effects loop. My rig is 100% silent when I stop playing. I don't even have to cut back my volume knob. EQ is set at 666. (Not joking). Gain is at about 6 and volume at 3. I also use a Donner Delay in the effects loop. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this amp just because it has EL 34's in it....Once the entire band is dialed in - you wouldn't hear a difference from this head, IMO. The best way to get a diff sound is to change speakers....which I will be doing , once I get the chance. Going to take out two of the G12T-75's and do the X pattern using V-30's or something else. Nice demo man !!! I love checking out amp demos here. It's great to hear the differences in heads, cabs and speakers. Cheers brother !!! \,,/..\,,/
It definitely handles the TS808 very well! Adding it in my signal chain has definitely become a must for anything high gain. Thank you so much for watching! 😁
Yeah I'd definitely bring the Low pass to like about 10K if I was EQing and a high pass to 100 hz and whatever else needs done in the mids. I dig this amp it sounds great in my opinion 😄
I remember James Brown discouraging people from putting EL34's in their 5150 but so many people must have insisted on doing it anyway they finally just gave in.
Yeah the preamp is definitely gonna have more sway in tone than just changing tubes. That's what I meant when I was referring to EL34s and 6L6s. I guess I just wanted to use less words haha
@@HighImpaktAudio Yeah, my understanding is that only changing the tube type is actually a much smaller difference than most people think there would be. So, what James Brown did here (and what other companies do as well) is to purposefully make small tweaks to the preamp to try to make the overall amp change in a way that people expect. So, for EL34s, they might tweak the preamp to sound more "british" or "Marshall-y" even if the tube change itself didn't do much.
@justsomerandomguyman yeah that matches up to what I've read about this amp. Even if tubes change very slightly just that alone in a dense mix doesn't matter too much haha. By the way I was thrilled to see James Brown coming back for these! I'm a huge fan of 5150s of all variations! 😁
The brake-up you get from an EL34 is much more saturated than a 6L6, and this type of saturation can also be achieved using a pedal, if you don't want to spend money on an amp. The bonus is that the L6L has more headroom, so running your marshall-style pedal into an L6L amp on the clean channel is, excellent. You can't go wrong these days.
Yes! Saturation would be the perfect word for what I was hearing in the "texture" of the gain. At least for my play style it works really well 😁 And I can't say I've really thought of two of the same wattage heads with different head rooms. Usually you'd see that with a 100w head vs a 25w head. I'll have to look into that some more. Thank you for watching!

For real dude! This one actually blew me away haha I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was 😆
@@HighImpaktAudio me too but I’ve been waiting on this one to hit. I had a sneaky suspicion this would come after the original iconic.
@smeemusic it's definitely a safe bet knowing the pattern EVH makes haha
That amp sounds incredible
Great demo, I appreciate you showing examples of clean and crunch along with the high gain.
It’s a decent amp especially at the price point.
Not a problem! Thank you so much for watching 😁
Thanks !!!
El's always a amp collector 57 years . Even Harmonics with Tight Low end !
Dude that sounded insane good!
Thank you so much! 😁 I'm very happy with this amp. I came in with no expectations, and it did great! Now the real test is comparing to the 6L6
@@HighImpaktAudio is the audio on this video all coming from the IR?
Dude!!! We need a side by side comparison 🤟
I'll be working on that very shortly! 😎

Dude, nobody gives a shit about your rig. This is HIS demo, not yours..
It sounds great with the ts

it needs a low pass filter to get rid of that static in the distortion imo. Otherwise it's close to the 5150 sound but not as full.

Great amp.
Most of the changes you are hearing are changes made to the preamp, not the tubes themselves.

Thats a spring-type reverb
@Finnmarkhimself I was thinking it mightve been one, but kept second guessing myself haha
