To be honest, this is exactly how China is accessing African markets - sharing technology and teaching the locals. This way, African nations can learn to be self sufficient and move up the value chain, just like what China has done. China would then move further up the value chain. What US is doing is trying to keep China from moving up the value chain, same as what they did to Japan

The West had never complained about the right type of (cheap) Chinese goods ''flooding'' into their market, because the more cheap Chinese goods are, the more beneficial it is to their consumers, and Western retailers too, as they always put a large markup on sale prices. But now, they have a problem when they are out competed on products/industries China leads in technology. The West never believed in so called free trade, they've always practiced protectionism. For example, when the US banned Huawei it forced the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, S Korea, Italy, and the rest of its vassal states to ban Huawei as well! In fact, all of these countries already had Huawei’s telecommunications lines and Internet system installed, but the US forced them to yank those systems all out, which cost those countries hundreds of billions of dollars in lost services and products that they had most already paid for! Now they all operate on slower 4G and 3G systems which hurts their businesses and citizens!

Well, when they can't compete or choose not to compete, the only way to protect it's own industry is minimise the imports from overseas.

So much for their climate change concerns - when affordable climate friendly EVs are in market, they would try to kill it.

"The imposition of tariffs proves detrimental to the United States. For instance, if a car costs $10,000 without tariffs but surges to $20,000 with imposed tariffs, American-made vehicles will hover around the $20,000 mark. Consequently, this renders the US automotive industry less competitive on the global stage. Consequently, these tariffs pose a significant threat to the competitiveness of the US industry."

BUT they are ONLY CHEAP IN CHINA!! China isn't selling cheap EVs in western markets, it is taking enormous profits. Profit for a Chinese EV is 1,000€ in China, compared to 15,000€ in the West. So as a consumer, it is better to tariff the product to support the local economy instead of sending enormous profits offshore.

@@nameberry220you don't think maybe the tariffs have something to do with that? Before it was 25% on all EVs coming from China.
