Apeks Luna-X First Dive/Review

First dive of 2024 and first dive with the Apeks canister light. Power is cycled by the left button through Low, Medium and Max. Light modes are cycled by the right button: Spot (8°, 750-1350 lumen), Wide (80°, 1000-2000 lumen) and Full, ie Spot + Wide (8°+ 80°, 850 - 3300 lumen). For high silt, such as in the tunnel, Low was fine and minimised back-scatter in the wide modes. Mostly though I left it in Max to see how it would last. From a full charge and after 90 mins in the water and some play on the surface it still had on Max 5:50 indicated life left in Spot, down to 2:40 in Full and 12:30 in all modes on Low. So basically, depending on use, it will give you light for up to 14 hours. Spot had good penetration and was fine for signalling. The Wide mode was great for videography, giving nice even light around the aircraft wing for instance. There is a strobe function but I didn't use it this time. The light also had a nice white colour. As to negatives, the battery securing bracket is at the top of the canister for a typical waistbelt mount but this is no good for sidemount so I made up a simple sleeve to fit it down the spine. Also the cable connector on mine is hard to get over the second O-ring to start the thread; we'll see if that eases with use. But overall I'm very pleased. It’s well made, easy to use, works as a video light and for signalling and has good battery life. Expensive at full price but I bought it at just over half RRP. I’m enjoying it.
