Sad to say , this sis happening all across Canada . Nobody sees the value in heritage until the wrecking ball appears. Developer's buy these old buildings and let them deteriorate so they can demolish them to build their next meal ticket. We were in Halifax 2 years ago and I thought the older buildings were treasures .They are part of the charm of the city.
I think there is a place for historic buildings in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), but now is time for dense urban development. Hopefully Mayor Fillmore will abolish the 90-metre height limit. That would be a start.
Old Halifax was never preserved like say Quebec City. The city has seen constant development since the 1960's with Scotia Square, the Cogswell Interchange, and the bulldozing of Africville. I lived in Halifax from 1991 to 95, and that was probably the beginning of the end or the last of "old Halifax", or what remained of it.

"Or we're going to wake up in a city that doesn't look like anything we know"
Welcome to Trudeau's Canada.
If you want to see the past go to a museum, can't let the past shackles future growth
Can't live in old buildings forever.
Check on the kickbacks politicians are getting from developers.

That's a bummer. I love the non concrete parts of halifax....
O well. Money is more important than anything under capitalism. This is what we get.
