    I love how they still make it sound like you have to pay a ton for services. There is so much free tv on streaming platforms all you really need is to rotate what services you really want to pay for. It's not hard.

      Honestly, the only individuals still using tv are those who do not have access to decent internet or are individuals who are too old, to where they don’t want to learn how to use the internet and streaming services. In 10 years though, that won’t matter much as cable will slowly remove more channels as more people become less interested in watching tv.
      Thanks to internet and streaming, it’s made tv a dumb option for most, so this in turn means cable is slowly losing revenue. In 5 years time, said revenue may become so low that they can’t afford to keep half the channels they rely on, so will need to drop them. What this means for channels is that they need an alternative, and if they don’t switch to online and streaming services, they will not survive in the coming decade.
      Now, what else this means is that the different channels can go one of two ways, where they can either try and rely on their own streaming network, which if said channel isn’t big enough and doesn’t have enough content, will not last long as more people will avoid paying for yet another service. This means that without a content library the size of netflix or disney, they will most likely need to start a deal with another streaming site already around and hope people are willing to spend enough money on that site. So if they go for something other then netflix or disney+ (since disney owns hulu, that’s clumped together), they’ll need something that appeals to audiences.
      At the end of the day, cable will be long gone, and those who are still relying on cable tv will have to adapt and switch to using the internet and streaming services or be left in the dark ages.

    I am on SS Disability and so my budget is very tight. I can't afford a smart TV. I was able to scrape enough together to buy a tablet. I used to pay for DISH, but the bill kept going up and up for the basic service, so I recently got rid of it and just watch whatever I can free on UA-cam. I foresaw years ago that TV and streaming would join together and that's what I see happening now.

    TV networks should stream their old TV shows from the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, and on to the present. I'm sure there is a market for that. Alot of people watch old tv shows and old movies when people upload it on youtube.

    The problem began decades ago when sports and tv merged. Companies were paying megabucks for the rights to certain events and passed that cost heavily onto consumers as cable was born. Those who didn't watch sports were subsidizing those that did and all were primarily subsidizing the NFL in the beginning. What's worse now, whether it's Dish, Directv, or Spectrum is that even when you're a subscriber, your content is constantly inundated with ads for the very service you subscribe to. Talk about overkill. With broadband initiatives being expanded into rural America, I suspect streaming will take an ever larger share of audiences. Perhaps we are on the horizon of the extinction of cable tv.

    • @CrossForum
      @CrossForum Рік тому +2

      Spectrum seems to know that. The ads I see for it are all about bundled internet and phone service for cheap. If you want cable service added you have to ask about that and its double the price.

    • @redwood421
      @redwood421 Рік тому +1

  • @OperationDx1
    @OperationDx1 2 роки тому +4

    It's cheaper in a world where everything is to expensive. The model you get what you pay for just works. And if you don't like the price or the content you simply drop the service. Cable companies simply try and pack everything in to charge you more and add in fake government fees and equipment rental fees. This has forced us to buy our own modems and ditch live TV to a better system where we can watch what we want when we want. Example Netflix started to get greedy and the content has never been fantastic. So naturally they are getting dropped for other streaming services. Instead of paying a $130+ cable bill you can now just pay your internet bill and $8 for Disney+ or $15 for HBOMAX.

      Problem with that is it does not teach discipline and makes people more demanding to have it now and how they want. To many times now I have my kids say we can watch it later since we have it on disc and then we do not. Takes family time away. So I created structure for them like when I was a kid: cartoon Saturdays, certain TV shows once a week on the same day. Teaches them that they sometimes have to compromise.

    A comment I found on a related article: Once you have switched over to streaming, it is fairly easy to see why Cable is totally outdated. Repeats, lack of options. I got two streaming services long enough to get three series not released on DVD. Hulu had a problem of freezing up and because of that made it impossible to watch a movie. Netflix has no options for movies and most of everything on there, I can stick an antenna outside and see for free. The thing about cable or antenna is I can just sit down and put it on my favorite channel and watch. Like if your sick, who wants to worry about trying to get the internet to load a streaming service then look for something to watch. Netflix had the problem at times when it would not load and I could not watch what I wanted. All streaming is: more bad channels with very limited programming. And the problem with cable is none of the channels show what they were designed for : no music on MTV, no history on history channel, hardly any movies on HBO. They are all lack luster and one is not better than the other in content, but cable comes on faster and freezes up a lot less.

    TVs are going to be the thing of the past in a few years. I had the same smart tv since 2013 and use it only a few hours a day, I got rid of cable and the larger bill that came with cable TV. I view everything on my PC at sites. I enjoy it because I don't often pay to see shows that I missed a long time ago or since I'm a senior I get to watch old b/w shows that I watch but can't remember them, lol. All free as well and I'm enjoy it. The only reason I don't watch it on my cell phone is because I can't see well enough to view it on even a 7" screen.

    The three favorite cable tv channels I used to watch, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel, are all dead. They’ve been dead since 2013 because of Netflix. That along with Hulu and Amazon Prime have proved that cable TV is obsolete. Nowadays, the three channels Netflix killed have retaliated by making their own streaming channels, Disney+, Max and Paramount+, and are currently giving Netflix a taste of its own medicine. That’s what I call Karma. It’s the same old process of “Out with the old, in with the new.”

    And Comcast corners the market in Atlantic City when you get rid of cable the company slows it internet speeds so you can’t stream off a firestick. So basically you have to pay a $300/mo cable bill now to get high speed internet in Atlantic City and nobody won’t do anything about it. They have no competing markets down there so they do what they want. Verizon food doesn’t needs to cover that area. There are really no high speed internet companies that cover that area
