To me, she's one of the most interesting and attractive women in the world. She has a certain magnetism, some people may not get it, but I do. Holy moly!
I JUST found “The Affair” a month or two ago (Nov - Dec 2019). I’ve now binge-watched the entire first four seasons and I’m halfway through the last and final 5th season, and that makes me soooooo very sad !!! I just don’t want it to end !!!! Omg, this show has really grabbed me. And now I’m so glad I randomly came across this interview right here. I remember my total shock and surprise when I first discovered Ruth and Dominic are both British - you’d NEVER guess !! I guess that’s why they’re actors .... they do this so darned well. I’m completely relishing these last few episodes of Season 5 right now and I’m so very sad it’s almost all over ..😢. Maybe I’ll go back and watch it all over again ..?? Not quite the same effect as watching it for the very first time though ....
She plays that role so masterfully and drags you in and mesmerizes you its no wonder Noah loses everything for her! But you feel a certain sadness for her character that stays with you.
What people fail to realize is that marriage is a commitment and should reflect the highest form of trust. It is about forming a family. It is a journey that will change with time. I've been married for 23 years, and I've always put my wife and son first. The secret to a successful marriage is to put the other first, not yourself. Noah and Alison are very sad characters who use their disappointments and personal problems to justify an affair without thought of the destructive consequences. How can they be in love? Their whole affair is based on shared sorrow and physical attraction. You love someone for just those reasons, not for their character and who they are as a person? It is a doomed relationship just as all affairs are doomed. The truly sad thing is the destruction and sadness children face as a result of an affair and when the spouse chooses to leave for his or her illicit lover. Before someone engages in an affair, they really need to think about the pain their family will face. If that doesn't stop him or her from having an affair, he or she is hopeless!
Just seeing this phenomenal TV series; The Affair, over here in New Zealand and I have never seen anything quite like it ever before. The duo of Dominic West as Noah Solloway and Ruth Wilson as Alison Bailey is remarkable and is so well overdue on TV. Wilson brings Alison Bailey to the screen as close to the bone reality as it gets. I actually began to wonder if Ruth Wilson had experienced a similar context as Alison Bailey does losing her young son Gabriel in the plot. Wilson's portrayal is so worthy of her Golden Globe, and in fact her performance probably deserves higher recognition. The co-creator of The Affair Sarah Treem said Wilson is a 'once in a generation actress' - I couldn't agree more! And yet it begs the question 'are we yet to see the very best from Ruth Wilson?' Who knows? It's a bit like the plot and nature of the characters in The Affair - we are left wondering 'who/what/when/where/how' does Alison Bailey and Noah Solloway actually tick? And that is the highest standard of acting/portrayal and producing and directing a TV/movie could possibly bring to the screen. Phenomenal. We Kiwis absolutely love quality drama - just ask Sir Peter Jackson (The Lord of The Rings, King Kong, The Lovely Bones, and The Hobbit) and Roger Donaldson (Sleeping Dogs, Smash Palace, Dante's Peak, The World's Fastest Indian, and McLaren) - all quality productions! And as I say The Affair is like nothing I have ever seen on TV/Film before. Congratulations to producers Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi and the quality cast spearheaded by Dominic West and Ruth Wilson - and not to be outdone by any means the performances of Maura Tierney as Helen Butler (Noah's wife) and Joshua Jackson as Cole Lockhart (Alison's husband) and the Solloway family siblings, Julia Goldani Telles as Whitney Solloway, Jake Siciliano as Martin Solloway, Jadon Sand as Trevor Solloway, and Leya Catlett as Stacey Solloway. There is indeed 4 sides to every story. Great vid CBS This Morning!
Terrific first 2-3 seasons. Then it became a parody and extended way longer than it should have. The affair had run its course by then. But the dialogue and acting were great.
Just finished watching it and I Loved it . Sad of how broken she was since loosing her child , but how she somehow tried to go on ... really didn’t expect the ending 😌😢
After watching season finale I kinda felt the same thing. It was sad but that is life. I felt sorry for all the characters, Noah, Alison, Cole and Helen. After finishing this, my perspective on life has changed. All actors/actresses bring all the characters to justice. The whole series is like, I have finished some novel.
The whole series was so wrought with angst and existential crises. I was waiting for them to arise from their misery but the series ended with the insight that such flashes of liberation from the maya of cause and effect are like waves that just ultimately become ocean again. And the ebb and flow of life itself is constant and unceasing. Sometimes they gently rock us to a peace sleep and other times they dash us against the rocks. All you can to is carve out your existence in those moments of lull.
Ruth Wilson, you are the best Jane Eyre of all of them. As an English teacher, yours was the one I showed my students every year. But, Ruth, time you get married!
North American accent? No such thing. People in the New England area alone have a mutitude of accents! And then there are the different New York/Long Island/NewJersey accents. The South sounds completely different from anything in the North. And let's not forget places.like Wisconsin that has its own accent which sounds like a Boston accent mixed with a Canadian accent. Then you've got California which has the Valley girl, the, surfer-dude, and then just a plain old vanilla sounding sound. And Louisiana has a French-inspired accent all its own.
A triumphant drama series. As well as terrific acting, each character was intimately and deeply analysed and highly credible in its own right. For me though the best actor of the entire series was Cole, then Helen and two of my favourite characters together with Cole's mother. No idea why Cole wasn't an award winning role.
"You need to find happiness in yourself first" (i.e Before you can find happiness in a marriage). I just don't think that's true. Surely the reality is that both partners in a marriage are damaged and they can work together to help each other understand themselves. Doing this brings the partners together.
i thought the writing of this show in totality, is brilliant. it really does cover a lot of spiritualism ,particularly non- dualism. happiness doesn't come from outside, it comes from the inside, other people don't make you happy and this show really captures this fact. In series 2, when noah talks about the difference between a good man and a great man....very interesting stuff. a good man pretends to live, a great man takes what he wants , regardless of the consequences , this show is deeper than people think, its not simply about an affair
Granted, she has nice eyes,,buttt shes not gorgeous , not to me anyways, and her voice - ahh she sounds so monotone and blah, I want to smack her lol..but shes a good actress..
The show - season three in particular - is a bit flawed, but my god what a brilliant actor Ruth Wilson is. I hope she doesn´t fall into the Hollywood trap like Jennifer Lawrence.
She plays the same character in a totally different way! And I will never know she was British if I hadn't see it, but my English is not my first language, so...
I had forgotten this interview. Coming back to it, I see she doesn't feel compelled to constantly smile and giggle and flutter her eyelashes with the interviewers. Why? 1) She's scared to death and goes quiet when she's scared, hoping not to reveal too much, or 2) She's extremely confident and self-possessed, not worried too much if people approve of her. Well, I'm going with, you guessed it................ 2)!
Shoot...I never even knew she was English, I didn't know West was either during The Wire 1st season.... two good accents, although here and there you can tell with West once you know.
Clau77 She's British, it's a staple to not put too much attention on your teeth. Still doesn't deter me from her beauty though. Ruth is very attractive
Omg I didn’t know she was British!! She looks like a British Emma Stone to me...I’m watching The Affair and I’m so upset they killed her off!! 😩 LOVE the show though!
She's absolutely loverly! But I thought that was an interesting statement supposedly of "truth" - "All truth is relative, there is no absolute truth" ....kind of makes her statement itself not really true either...at least not absolutely true.......well...... Let's just find another word to use other than "truth" whaddya say? Hey, how about "Everybody has their own existential reality"??
So disappointing to hear her talk about subjective realities. I invite all who share the view to step out the window of a high-rise and show me how objective reality doesn't exist.
I'm halfway through series 5 and it's become a completely different show. The writing took a nosedive early in season 3 and by season 5 it's laughably bad. Also, read the reports of all the on set fallout between the producers and Ruth Wilson. Ruth was treated terribly by Sarah Treem, the showrunner, but signed a NDA so is unable to go into detail about the details.
Although I enjoyed the great storyline as it fully played out to the very last scene. However, I always felt that Noah and Alison were just in it for the fast sex, it may seem a quick fix, but after the destruction of both their marriages, they rather quickly realised sex doesn't fix anything. Love has a lot more depth to it than that The carnage they left behind in their lives wasn't worth it.
Ugh, this is why I don't like to see actors/actresses in "real life." 👎 She's not at all like I expected her to be. Regardless, "The Affair" is brilliant! 💙
I watched the show only cz of Ruth Willson who was deeply in Alison character. The scene of her death with the dance and conversation in her mind and its combination with Azucar Morena killed me. I cried alot over that cz I've been through this depression but the more the show goes further, the more it gets boring and cheap, two many unnecessary characters and etc.
She's not a likable personality plus she left because of pay but she denied it. They let her go because they did not want bad publicity. Dominic should have gotten the golden globe he is a great actor and he contributed to the show more than any cast members.
neither one of these two have a real north american accent. no one speaks like that anywhere. he wasnt getting it right in the Wire either. I love the Wire btw
been saying this for years ladies, stop with the clown makeup!! Look how terrible Ruth Wilson looks here- an otherwise natural beauty now looking like shes trying too hard to look feminine.. geez
Well written and the acting is really good! Ruth Wilson and Dominic West are great.
To me, she's one of the most interesting and attractive women in the world. She has a certain magnetism, some people may not get it, but I do. Holy moly!
I get it 🥰
No doubt
She's beautiful but the makeup artist on is show needs shooting the women had way too much blusher on. She needs very little or no makeup
Richie B absolutely, I get it .... and I’m a heterosexual woman !
Agree
I remember her as Jane Eyre and then as the psychotic Alice Morgan in Luther. She has good range as an actor.
She is my favourite Jane, and Timothy Dalton is my favourite Rochester
She is phenomenal .

She does the American accent so naturally! How the heck do they do that?
She plays that role so masterfully and drags you in and mesmerizes you its no wonder Noah loses everything for her! But you feel a certain sadness for her character that stays with you.

I love the series. I love how the characters are so natural in their actings. I love Ruth Wilson and all other characters. This is so amazing!
Stunning performance in "The Affair," from Ruth Wilson...
"There's only one thing to do, and that's, be the way that I am and then, sink back into the ocean"
And she did,eventually...
*be the wave that I am

The Affair is a great show.
StayAway is it?
Terrific first 2-3 seasons. Then it became a parody and extended way longer than it should have. The affair had run its course by then. But the dialogue and acting were great.
I've watched 2 seasons and it's one of those shows which becomes better with time. Incredible first 2 seasons
She's my favorite actress, from Jane Eyre to Luther also Mrs Wilson She can do any thing
Ruth you are an awesome actress. Hope to see you in future endeavors, best of luck. Peace
Just finished watching it and I

Vishal Satsangi I totally agree with you, I will miss this series soooo terribly now ..
The whole series was so wrought with angst and existential crises. Miss Wilson is just everything. She's gawjess 🤩
Never would have known she is British!
Patti Rose ikr I was so shocked Noah is British too
I keep forgetting she's British... She does a perfect north-american accent.
Belson20 most Brits can pull that off
It's easy to dumb-down.
Him too.
Belson20 Perfect? Do you not have ears? lol. She has a weird accent about 60% of the time. She's still amazing, but let's not get too crazy here.
North American accent? No such thing. People in the New England area alone have a mutitude of accents! And then there are the different New York/Long Island/NewJersey accents. Brilliant show. Brilliant acting.
ALICE MORGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME BACK TO LUTHER!!!!!!!!
SHEEESS BACKKK
That's what I'm talking bout!
SHE MUST!!!
Meep meep!

It's actually true. If u Aunt happy with yourself, the marriage will fail
Okay, but expecting your partner to be your therapist is a bit much. They have their own life outside of you. 😂
I love Alison and Cole happy ending ❤️❤️❤️
They didn't have a happy ending, unfortunately.
i thought the writing of this show in totality, is brilliant. it really does cover a lot of spiritualism ,particularly non- dualism. happiness doesn't come from outside, it comes from the inside, other people don't make you happy and this show really captures this fact. I fell right in love with Alice on Luther.
my gosh, she is incredibly beautiful!
+Sochilinda are you kidding? shes not beautiful, I do not see it!!
I think she's absolutely gorgeous. A lot of it is in the eyes, and she has this voice that just draws you in.
Granted, she has nice eyes,,buttt shes not gorgeous , not to me anyways, and her voice - ahh she sounds so monotone and blah, I want to smack her lol..but shes a good actress..
Please Dr Alice Morgan in her little pixie cut is deadly hot and deadly. As Rebecca Ried she is beautiful and sweet.
Marie
I think you need new glasses and a hearing aid.
The show - season three in particular - is a bit flawed, but my god what a brilliant actor Ruth Wilson is. I hope she doesn´t fall into the Hollywood trap like Jennifer Lawrence.
Frank Larssen yes but have you seen season 4? So far, amazing!
She plays the same character in a totally different way! And I will never know she was British if I hadn't see it, but my English is not my first language, so...
Great acting. I had no idea they were both British
Best show for me with an amazing writing
After Californication series
I had forgotten this interview. Coming back to it, I see she doesn't feel compelled to constantly smile and giggle and flutter her eyelashes with the interviewers. Great actress! 👌
Can't wait for season 3..when does it air?
Probably October, but someone had a baby so their gonna take a bit lomger. :/
what? hasn't the series been cancelled?
+azaefe Noooo, lol Third season starts on November 20th.
They just told us a few days ago, November 20th
Thaiz Betanzo what else can they possible do to the story? It should've ended. I think It'll go downhill from here and become any other soap drama...
Love the show!!!!!!!
Wish she would quit that humdrum show and get back to the UK to play Alice Morgan in kick-ass Luther. The show is not the same without her.
+Giles Thompson Totally agree. Alice Morgan is one of the best roles I ever watched. so much more complex and fascinating than allison.
or maybe she should be in the Star Wars universe
Giles Thompson Wish she’d go to a dentist with the ugly yellow teeth thing and stop injecting her lips.
Clau77 She's British, it's a staple to not put too much attention on your teeth. Still doesn't deter me from her beauty though. Ruth is very attractive
She is perfect
She is brilliant in luther
Wonderful actress
I love Allison!
Talented, beautiful, intelligent
Omg I didn’t know she was British!! She looks like a British Emma Stone to me...I’m watching The Affair and I’m so upset they killed her off!! 😩 LOVE the show though!

+Andrea Martins Yes she is!
Or Alice
Andrea Martins she's incredibly ugly. Maybe if she brushed her teeth.
So disappointing to hear her talk about subjective realities. I invite all who share the view to step out the window of a high-rise and show me how objective reality doesn't exist.

I don't why, but Ruth reminds me of Cara Delevingne
Lola Mercury YES!
Word!
Had no idea she was a Britt
I still want to know why she was written off the show for!!!!
The show wont be the same without Allison!!!!!
There is an article in The Hollywood Reporter that explains that- she left, she wasn’t written out.
I love Allison
British women are so hot! Ruth Wilson, marry me please!
Although I enjoyed the great storyline as it fully played out to the very last scene. However, I always felt that Noah and Alison were just in it for the fast sex, it may seem a quick fix, but after the destruction of both their marriages, they rather quickly realised sex doesn't fix anything. Ugh, this is why I don't like to see actors/actresses in "real life." 👎
She's not at all like I expected her to be.
Regardless, "The Affair" is brilliant! 💙
Is there even a single American actor (except Meryl Streep) who can pull off a British or Irish accent?
Jake im not an actress but I. American & can pull off a seamless natural English accent lol. Its actual pretty naturAl. U either have it or u dont
Yes! Rene Zellwegger can do a perfect English accent and different dialects too.
How can they change their voices because from different countries
Wow!! this is the first time I've seen her speak outside of the Affair and you're right!
Amo a alison
Wow she really hides her accent on the show
I watched the show only cz of Ruth Willson who was deeply in Alison character. The scene of her death with the dance and conversation in her mind and its combination with Azucar Morena killed me. I cried alot over that cz I've been through this depression but the more the show goes further, the more it gets boring and cheap, two many unnecessary characters and etc.
Wow, I like hey American accent
ill watch the affair on showtime over wwe being too much of a Disney show its better there
She's not a likable personality plus she left because of pay but she denied it. They let her go because they did not want bad publicity. Dominic should have gotten the golden globe he is a great actor and he contributed to the show more than any cast members.
I know its only a tv show but becuz for who she is or what she is in the show made me hate her....only come her to see who she is in real life
Can't believe she's British!
Norah ODonnell looks so smug while Ruth is speaking.
Alison AND Helen killed Scotty!
She looks like Juliet Lewis with a British accent.
Lol the killer of Scotty is infront of you😂
Polarize beauty
Ruth Wilson is Hot
This series's probably created by a psycho psicologist to disturb cheaters. awesome.
neither one of these two have a real north american accent. no one speaks like that anywhere. he wasnt getting it right in the Wire either. I love the Wire btw
Great film, they play with ouer feelings, they abuse us, we wanted to be abused......
There is no objective truth???????
👍
Woman walks ahead
She is so hot!
It’s lust and deceit on film lol.
British sound smart.
Quack
been saying this for years ladies, stop with the clown makeup!! Look how terrible Ruth Wilson looks here- an otherwise natural beauty now looking like shes trying too hard to look feminine.. geez
🦆
Yawn
