Ironic how kids were more understanding than older people. It is obvious that they're raised by a good and loving parents.

Even I who's french has always been told I had to do this or that bcs I'm a "chocolate skin" girl when I was a kid and my parents just educated me like a white girl so I didnt understand why others expected sth diff from me I wish this show will help ppl understanding the importance of acceptance and education and to not treat others in a diff way bc of their origins
We all thought the new generation is gonna end up worse than Logan Paul gang or the trolls on the internet but we were wrong. Because they also see the people that spoke against those idiots, this ironically made them way more mature than we were once children.

This is why I appreciate shows like these. It helps foster a culture that’s more accepting and less prejudiced. I hope Gabriel, Fate, and the other kids don’t feel discouraged by what happened to them, but instead are stronger because of it.

They shouldn’t have to be stronger and have to deal with racism and discrimination at all. They were hurt by it and it still hurts them. Putting up and having to deal with racism isn’t easy, it shouldn’t even exist but here we are.

I hate the fact that when someone goes through something like this, most of the time people reply with "you should understand, they are just not used to seeing someone who looks like you". why does the person have to understand that? I think people really fail to realize the magnitude of such a traumatizing event. it takes away the victim's voice and also the anger and frustration that can build up can be depressing and stressful. you don't need to be educated to treat everyone with kindness.
I agree. Until when can ones patience last? When you lose all your self confidence? Or when you finally having a break down? Understanding is good but you have to draw the line.

I went to korea 4 years, i looked pretty young for my age, my first experience aboard, and a lot of people where pretty harsh on me and my black friends Not all of them of course ! Somr of them are the sweet hearts but still xD

It's because of the concept of if you talk back then you're the same as him/her. If they throw you a stone throw them bread. My mom always tells me that I should understand people who acts like this or that because they have shallow minds and I should be grateful coz my knowledge is wide enough to understand them. That's just my opinion

It's interesting to see a non-black person admit they are really no better than us though, and that other Asians dislike them (not that I'm happy it happens, it's disgusting) but most nonblack dark skinned people will swear on a stack of Bibles that they don't get hatred 🙄.

It's not ironic that elders r more ignorant. It's more than issue of ignorance it's about difference in time and the society they grew in.
Unlike today the society eariler was not open minded towards dark skin . It was probably more violent and harsh than today.
So she grew up learning and watching wrong. There was no one to tell her it's not right thing.
It's sad that she is still stuck in that time period and unable to change.

@@louise3121 It's sad some older folks just tend to have this type of mindset. The discrimination, prejudice, lack of open mindedness and lack of acceptance to the growing diversity of today's society has been internalised because of the rigid way their generation was brought up. It's great to see older folks who have adopted a more appropriate and accepting mindset but unfortunately a majority never change.
Even within the Philippines, many people get discriminated against by their own people because of the hierarchal mindset some folks have. I remember growing up and being constantly bombarded by the societal obsession of having fair skin, being able speak English fluently, etc. People are praised for having fairer skin yet those who don't fit the standard are both directly and indirectly harassed. The popularity of various "pampaputi" products, even reaching the point where celebrities advertise such products in the media, has instilled this collective mentality within the nation even further as well.
It's definitely very uplifting to see the younger generation's genuine willingness to look past each other's differences and embrace each other's cultures no matter what they look like or where they come from, kudos to all the parents out there raising their kids right :)

I worked with a group of Filipinos for a number of years, some dark some almost white. I heard that skin colour is an issue in the Philippines as well. I just don’t get this desire for proximity to whiteness. White people envy us our brown skins, why do we place such low value on our advantage?

@@baphithi its because of the colonization influence of Spaniards, American and Japanese; someone's who's white-skinned even before is seen as rich and beautiful, mestiza. because they might have the colonizer's blood.

@@nissy4266 I agree that it's on the people but these people grew up believing on white is beautiful because of social construct that has been inputted by the colonizers to us Filipinos. They colonized us for hubdred of years and burned all our historical records that's why there is a BIG GAP in our history and identity. If these colobizers did not colonized us and deconstructed our society then we don't have these thingking of white supremacy.

Unfortunately, the way of the world they will. I’m a Black American with a multicultural family. Discrimination is everywhere, the only way to stop it will be through love , understanding, empathy, listening, protecting people from becoming more victims of hate, and recognize human as human. ❤️
I'm a french brown girl and same here it got better with time when ppl began to get used to see me and learnt to treat me like any other kid but ofc it was hard at the beginning it was almost impossible to go somewhere without being judged as a potential robber/ dealer / stealer of the place of a white kid
It’s about what happened to them and the influence others had on them to make them think dark skin was ugly or made u less. Bc at the end of the day their Asian themselves and Asians aren’t white either

I’m Nigerian American and I’m fighting to end Asian hate and for BLM. I’m also trying to actively improve, racism is everywhere and we need to all recognize we all are somewhat prejudice.

As a Korean this really breaks my heart. I experienced so much racism growing up overseas, and always wondered how someone could judge based on the appearance of someone without knowing who they were. However, when i returned to Korea I saw my own people causing harm. I do my best to correct and fight for what is right but it is still difficult
People who experience racism know what it's like to be discriminated against. I also experienced it and when I went to my home coutry I saw discrimination with my own eyes and I couldn't believe it.

I'm glad you do your best to correct and fight it, keep doing it. So many times people turn a blind eye or ignore other people being discriminated against and that's just as bad bc they allow those people to think being bigoted is acceptable and it's not.
That’s why I don’t fantasize their country that much even tho I stan so many kpop groups. Some koreans needs to knowledge themselves about respecting a person of color and that color isn’t a boundary to everything. (Pardon my english lol)

One time I read that SK is one of the most developed countries but when it comes to social relationships they aren't, specially with foreigners. I'm in the same position as you, I'm a big fan of kdramas and some kshows, but I don't dream on going there
I was once asked by my korean student, why I don't wish to go in their country when I can understand and speak korean like a native.. I told her, I will go, only to visit you and my other students and that's it!! As much as I want to be honest with her, I can't simply answer her with "because of the unpredictable attitudes you have that's why I don't want to go.." Cause she might take it differently. (I don't generalized everyone, okiedokie? I don't want to be misunderstood.)
yeah me too, my friends keep asking me if what country that i wanted to visit and they'll telling me to visit kore first. I dont know but i cant see myself visiting korea. I dont have any grudge against korea/koreans but yeah.

When Daniel said “ that only happens in America” that really made me sad because people always ignore racism in Korea. And I feel bad because Daniel is a foreigner but he is European looking so then think he is handsome. Thank goodness that the Park siblings' Argentine mother ( Anna wife of Park Jooho) is a WHITE LATINA. She was born in Argentina but of European descent. But I wouldn't recommended Korea as their home. Especially for Aciel Gunhoo Park( who prefer English). I would recommended UK , Argentina, or even Singapore as a home for Aciel.
I think UK would be best for Aciel. He prefer English, good universities in UK, and home of catch wrestling ( Snake Pit Wigan). Catch wrestling is ancestor of both freestyle and pro wrestling. I remember him doing leg lock and sleeper hold/rear naked chokes on his noona.

Older generations in Korea grew up when Korea was still a developing country and most of them lack basic education as well. That's why there's a huge generation gap in Korea. People over 40 actually have less manners and etiquette sadly.
Older doesn't mean wise, atleast not all time, apparently. Some people just get dumb and dumber as they get old.. We call it senile or karen.

Okay 2 things. Black people should definitely wear sunscreen. Everyone should. And racism and discrimination isn't something only in America. You will hear more about the problems in America because their citizens are more vocal about it then in other countries.

I hate when ppl act like it's only an American thing it's every where and it shouldn't be dismissed.
Yeah. We have more protection in the sun, but only for 30 minutes or so. You should still wear sunscreen to prevent aging and even skin cancer. Many black people die of undiagnosed skin cancer because the doctors aren't educated on what it looks looks like on dark skin. They're only trained to treat white skin. That and many other skin ailments as well, such as rosacea which was thought to only affect white skin. We all have the same ailments, they just show up differently.
I wish there was nothing like discrimination. Imagine kids going through this. As an adult i don't even think i can bear what these children are bearing. Bless their pure heart. They are going to do great. I had to go and watch the previous episodes. I hope this show continues. Kudos K-Doc

Damn, I felt that...I remember when I was with a "friend" (she's white) when I was 8 and I was swinging and she just out of the blue blurted, "Your skin looks like dog poop" before running away. It took me a few seconds to process that because I had never experienced racism like that before. like what she said made absolutely no sense that my brain had to take time to process it. I'm black and i have dark skin. It makes me uncomfotable when my friend always mentions how my skin is dark or my lips and nose is big. She askes alot of questions and some are offesive. I want to tell her but don't wanna be mean, and I'm not sure how to explain for her to understand

Me, as a Filipino, I also experience that discrimination here in my own country. When I was young, I was being bullied because I have that dark skin. And they always compare me with my cousin who has a light skin. It hurts me a lot because even my family compared me with my cousin. They always told us (me and my cousin) when we're together,we looks like gatas at kape (milk and coffee in english). I'm the coffee and my cousin is the milk. It hurts because they just keep on laughing at me. Even my school mates do that to me. It's sad because for others, having a dark skin is ugly.
Even in Pakistani culture, dark skinned people are looked down upon. My grandad who is dark skinned looked down upon my friend because she's black and I basically said to him, your dark too, there's literally no difference between u and them. None of us are different. And we are discriminated for something we didn't choose.
Milk has puss and coffee is pure and delicious. Also I have medium skin tone but to me tan to dark skin is soooo beautiful! I’m almost drawn to people with these tones! So it’s not your problem it’s other people’s problem embrace your beautiful skin and NEVER be insecure shineeee
I am also discriminated by my own family in the Philippines too... They would always say I am ugly and seems bad because I have a tan skin...
If something bad happen in our house, I am the first one to be blamed cuz apparently I am dark...
When doing skin care, they would always judge me for it... saying, I won't become pretty because I am dark...
Meanwhile my siblings that has light complexion have every right to have nice clothes and skin care.... they have lots of accessories too...
My favorite color before was pink, but since my aunt said that I look ugly in bright colors like that when I was 7 or 8... I began to hate bright colors....
She said it was cuz I have darker skin... I look dirty....
When I turned 20, I realized that bright colors actually complements my dark skinned... even tho, I know that it is good for me to wear... most of the time, I cant wear them, simply because I am scared that I will look dirty......
Just last year, my father said to me that I look like a monster cuz I look to dark... we haven't seen each other in a while and that's the first thing that came out of his mouth....
So disappointing...
Discrimination to darker skin color was common everywhere in Asia.
Stay strong my moreno/a, black, dark, sun kissed brothers and sisters. Next time you tell them, guess what- trees, vegetables and everything that has life has color like me from the sun. The sun gives life therefore I have life because I'm sun-kissed , and you throw a little jab like the Philippines is a tropical country you are meant to have color as the universe intended to. Watch them get confuse. Stay strong and confident.
It's ironic because even in the Phillipines, I heard that Chinese people discriminate against Filipinos for having darker skin IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. What a sh*tshow and I pray that this madness and incivility changes soon.
We should applaud these kids for being raw with their experiences without fear of being ridiculed. They know that they are there to spread awareness about the experiences of mixed/foreign race ppl in Korea and by sharing the negative experiences they suffer, it helps to educate the public and improve the lives of people like them in the future
I cried when Fate told her story.. I was also in the same boat as Gabi.. When I was younger my family live in Seoul Korea for 6months for my Dad's diplomat work. Even if I was female other Korean parents won't let me play with their kids because I was half Japanese and half Filipino.. I was dark skinned too.. It's the reason why I didn't go back to Korea.. and live here in the Philippines..

These teens truly deserve their own show! I don't usually get so attached to videos like these but I always find myself checking K-Doc to see if they uploaded the next part. These kids are so kind-hearted and open minded. These are the kind of shows that all close minded Koreans should take time to watch to stop their prejudice towards Koreans with different native cultures.

it’s really painful to see these kids have to be exposed to such treatment at a young age but i’m glad that topics like how foreigners are treated in korea are being covered more so that hopefully koreans who see this and have these biases or hate in their heart see how it affects others
This is soooooo common in India. There are people with a vast range of skin color, with different undertones. Some may look like koreans, some may look like Africans and even American's. But all have a settled mindset of FAIR SKIN IS GOOD....
I am from South India, where medium tan skin is very common. But I had very less good memories in school. One of neighboring kids told me LOOK AT YOUR SHADOW EVEN IT IS SO DARK.. etc etc..
.that effects a person's self-confidence alot. I was 14 when I became confident of how I am because of a great teacher I had.
I don't know how people are gonna judge someone based on color... It's not that we choose how we want to be born.
Well If there is a next life, I would choose this skin again.

Colourism is stupid internalized white supremacy when various shades of brown skin is what the majority the world is. And when you learn that pale skin is a genetic mutation that only appeared 8,000 years ago give or take the majority of humans are not only presently brown, but have always been brown. So brown skin is classic and default.
Respect for Gabriel : he was raised so well by his parents coz he is so mature enough to think and know and do what is right and what is not

Their parents raised them very well. I understand how they feel because I have experienced being discriminated in my own country even though I am a full blooded Filipino. All I know is I want to fly there and give them warm hugs for being so understanding and mature.

I wish they are airing everyday. And they should let them do a permanent show. These kids have potential and they make our day.
This episode is legit! These kids experiences on racism is a big eye opener for all. Every country should educate their citizen about other culture so that everyone is enlightened about other races and cultures. Kudos to the production team! Hope these kids continue to soar high.

As a South African, with our history of apartheid, that story made me angry and sad. Hearing these black children experiencing racism upsets me. Right now Asians are getting attacked in the USA, Koreans must think about that. If you want to be treated with respect, you must respect others as equals.
Oh this ep hurts. I live in Italy, I'm Peruvian, i moved here when i was just 13, i faced bad episodes of xenophobia, both physically and verbal. when i was 14, a man pushed me twice, the first time i ignore him, the second time it was harder, before i could said anything he told me "comeback to your country", "you came here to stole our job". It wasn't the first time i listened that words but it was the first i stand up and answered to this agression, even if at 14 i spoke a good Italian (because i studied hard), that "man" continued insulting me and my family to "raise such an impolite person", i was in a bus, full of people, no one said a word, then, a man, who take the bus 10 minutes after, tried to help me, a young boy too tried to say something but he get a punch, they were an English university teacher and an Albanian guy, that day i felt the worst nd unfortunately that was just one of many bad days. I have kids now, I'm 26, near to 27, my kids are half Peruvian and half Chinese, they are 3 and 5 years old and the eldest one has already faced a bad situation because of his dad origin's, i would like they don't have to face all the sh*it i have to but i know I have to prepare them to the worst.
I am Korean and have lived in Japan for 5 years. As I live there my co worker was joking about my pronunciation and I was banned from the store because I was Korean.
I think that discrimination exists in any country and that is not right.

Colourism is such a problem in asia, tbh. Notice the difference in their experiences being "foreigners" - the darker the skin tone the harsher/ more blatant the discrimination is. My very first time going back to PH, I was floored by how "encouraged" the opt to lighten ones skin is - everywhere u turn, skin whitening product/services are constantly advertised be it on tv, radio, print, etc. I only stayed there for a month and I, as a grown ass man, started questioning if I have the "right" complexion. I was heartbroken, I was caught off guard . Imagine how severe it must be for kids growing up in a society that teaches u to dislike ur own skin tone, or how curly ur natural hair is, or whether ur nose is not "pointy" enough.
Colonialism really did a number on us, got us messed up like this as a society ~ I hope our generation could do better for these kids and kids everywhere. Those ideologies are outdated derived from a wyt mans own insecurity and/or lame attempt to gain superiority. Those days are over, lets strive to do better and b better people.
Actually, the idea of having fair skin doesn't have to do with "European whiteness", rather "Asian fairness" because in pre-colonial era, most nobility and aristocrats had fairer skin, while the poorer ones who do manual labor have very tan to dark skin. So it led to a connotation where fair skin meant "well-off" and "noble" while darker skin means you're a poor peasant. Such a concept was passed down from generation to generation, that's why people often tell kids "don't go out in the afternoon or you'll get dark" because of that connotation. Sadly it was a part of Filipino society ever since the dawn of history. But it's not rooted in white people or Filipinos wanting to be Caucasians. Such a concept is actually a common thing in Asian societies and has nothing to do with Europeans or colonialism because it's part of Asian socio-cultural history. I'm not defending, btw. I'm just stating that seeing Asians who want white skin as if they wanna look European kind of White is very misleading.
@@thwb4661 cool take but not entirely accurate. Yes Im very much aware of the concept but I think youre giving colonialism a lot less credit for the skin whitening craze in the Philippines today. There are multitudes of academic research out there available for you to read if you’re interested in knowing more about it. Actually, I implore u to do so. There are many peer reviewed psychological research out there that attributes the desire of filipinos wanting whiter skin to the American colonial rule - they did not only brought with them pro whiteness but also anti blackness (look up old American soap packaging).
Also, 333 years of being under Spanish rule alone and think of how huge they influenced our culture today, so don’t try and tell me that the “perception of beauty” is the only authentic thing that survived in our precolonial Philippines - when even our own original language/writing system/social structure/history we could not preserve.
Think of how many foreign aristocrats/nobleman our people had to serve for centuries. Are you not including them in the equation when making your argument?
Also, I did not say filipinos (or other non white people) who opt to get their skin lighten do so because they want to be caucasian, where did you get that?
Explain our culture’s fixation with pointy nose and favouring straight hair - the caucasian features that we favour so much that we opt to make them as leading man/woman in every other tv shows movies and advertisements.
Half white half filipino mix have more chances of making it as a successful celebrity in our country than half black half filipino, fact. Heck, most of the successful celebrities there are always those mixed race with some ratio of white in them.
We as a culture favour white people - we don’t want to be white but we favour them. Like what you are trying to do in this comment of yours, you may have disclosed after your argument that you are not “defending” but you actually are defending colonialism when you said that the concept of colourism has nothing to do with colonialism. I'm just emphasizing that the topic you mentioned existed during pre-colonial times. But I'm never denying that European colonization affected the way some Asians see things today. I'm just emphasizing that Asians in general have the idea of colorism GENERALLY not because people want to be European, rather they want to achieve a noble idea of being Asian.

Does tanning mean you want to be dark-skinned like Black people? That's ridiculous. Some people can't get over the fact that Asian people can do things the way they want to, without needing to get accused of wanting to be white. And most people who complain are oftentimes those people who didn't even grow up in Asia or those who are too westernized that their brain thinks it's normal to accuse Asians of whatever they think Asians are.
NOT everything in Asia TODAY is about white people, lmao and not everything is about colonization. I'm against the colonized era, but it does not affect me anymore personally since it's already in the past and I have a culture that's not focused on "colonization" or "Euro-centric" lmao. I don't know about you but Asian cultures are too rich for us to focus only on colonization and to give a damn on white people.

Are you Asian who lived and grew up in Asia? If so, you should know those by now. If you're some Asian-American who grew up in the states, I would understand you would have a different perspective due to your less Asian upbringing and euro-centric perspective of things.

And trust me, our Asian life does not revolve around white people. Sometimes when I watch videos like these where black talk about their experiences in Korea I have second thoughts about moving there😪, just because we don't look the same we are discriminated for our skin color no matter where we go, but I'm not gonna let it stop me from achieving my dream 😁
I think there’s definitely a difference between being raised and understanding the culture of a place vs going as a foreigner when it comes to discrimination.
Idk if this is a good or bad thing, but you may not be able to pick up a lot of the microaggressions or build the same relationships that lend themselves to bullying bc you’re a foreigner. You may experience what Gabriel experienced, but not what Angel and Fate experienced because schooling/work places are where a lot of shit goes down. Being a foreigner you may be too ignorant to pick up the subtle jabs 😭😭 I say this as a Black person raised in the US, where my foreign Black friends can’t detect the things I can (and get less discouraged bc of this) unless it’s super blatant and obvious.
I'm a Filipino and after Gabriel's story, I felt so sad for him. Here in the Philippines, MOST of the foreigners are loved and cared by the Filipinos. We also care and appreciate those people who were born in multicultural family may it be they were Filipino by blood or at their hearts. I don't understand why SOME people in SK can't appreciate this diversity in their country. Is it a crime to be born half- Korean or be a foreigner who just wants to have a happy and comfortable life in their country? Yes, your country is very admirable because of your culture, tradition and such but...isn't being humane, respectful and most of all indiscrimination more important than just being a developed country?
Philippines is a really colorist country though like it's not an example to use because it's the country that advertises and uses the most skin lightening products and the media only represents light skins in Philippines. Their beauty standards is literally looking white...

I was 5 when my parents moved to Germany but everytime in was in the Philippines there was always someone who told me to go back to Germany coz i couldn't speak Filipino well, i understood everything but i couldn't express myself well coz i always spoke German to my mom even though she spoke Tagalog with me... I was really hurt... But hey, every country has their black sheep who are ignorant and not open minded at all... I'm really sorry for those kids and I hope they overcome all those hardships and I really wish that the people would change for the better.
@@hyunjinsaussieaccent6591 depends not all. back in high school i have a really dark skinned classmate but did he get badly treated? nope, he was treated as an equal and even became the corps commander of our CAT. i say philippines is more open minded to variety of skin color. first thing that comes to mind for filipinos for dark skinned people: he must be good at basketball. that already breaks down boundaries and start good relations.

The crazy thing is, it really doesn’t happen in America. Maybe in the 50s. If you tried that now, you’d probably be verbally or maybe physically attacked/have police called on you. Korea is finally opening up to diversity. There is this group of korean society that really doesn't accept people out from their community and especially the dark ones but by bringing on shows like this they are really opening up about this and trying to make their Korean viewers understand these things.

as someone who grew up in America as an Asian American I really appreciate their attitudes towards discrimination and hatred, I wish I reacted like they did. life would be much easier. thanks to them, I'll think about how others treat me a little differently.
These kids being raised with such a great knowledge about each other's differences and accepting/embracing them at the same time is something else ... we're far from the older generation and I hope that this way of thinking can be passed to the next generations .
