I think the title of this video should have been ‘Exploring Abandoned Tube Platforms At Charing Cross’, as only two of the platforms in the station are abandoned, the rest of the station is still open to the public.
I wish when they had built the line they considered maybe having Westminster and Charing Cross on the line. Then that would be better because Charing Cross could spread its load between the stations and it would provide more connections especially to Trafalgar Square and Westminster Bridge Road and towards the Strand.
Andrew Situ that's actually a really good idea since there is still those left over tracks which were for the extension of the northern line that never happened.
It could end up being used again if some of the long-planned but unbuilt tube lines are constructed. The Wimbledon-Hainault line for example , via Putney Bridge, Kings Road, Sloane Square, Charing X, Aldwych, Fleet Street, City Thameslink, Bank, Hackney and Leyton, I think the route was. Helped by the tube line extending east already almost as far as Aldwych already - this was to have been the 'Fleet Line' route, but ended up taking another course through London that the present day Jubilee Line takes.
This is where they shot thar film that they show us in our last year of primary school about the dangers of trains, reply if you want to know the story its quite sad so i wont say it now

These "spare" platforms have been suggested for another use. The idea proposed was to extend the Docklands Light Railway west from central London so it terminated in these platforms.
The video title is misleading - Charing Cross station is still in use with the Bakerloo and Northern lines. These two abandoned platforms used to be where the Jubilee line terminated before its extension out to East London which opened a little over twenty years ago.
Also used for the film 'flood' in 2007 when the Thames barrier gets overwhelmed. I only remember because Sam falls asleep on rob's shoulder on the platform
Ik I am probably gonna get comments say I am so dumb but why doesn't TFL just reopen the line with trains from Stanmore either going to Charing Cross or on the JLE...
It doesnt provide anything new really, and creates operational complexity. Anyone wanting to go Charring Cross can use the Bakerloo. Also most trains would want to go Stratford as it's the main part of the line. You then create issues with switches and delays trying to fit trains from the branch into the main service.
Mill Hill East station used to continue further westwards towards Edgware, where there were two stations in close proximity. (The one that exists today is one of the Northern line's termini). Also, Charing Cross is in central London where it's very busy, so it wouldn't be practical to have trains running to a terminus there when there are plenty of other stations within walking distance of each other. Mill Hill East, however, is in a quiet part of north London and is a bit far away from many other attractions and stations. There is a shuttle service that runs to Finchley Central off-peak, but trains do carry on into central London during peak times.
