    Mind if I ask a couple questions?
    What ‘base’ coat should I be using? Can I use a spray tin from Halfords that’s the same colour as the car, or do you use a generic colour?
    How long between applying the paint and then buffing it?
    What budding compound are you using?

    I know for a fact that the road rash on the lower doors will not last especially on a Porsche. This is a patented method called SSR sprayless scratch repair. I have been doing this for 14 years. It is effective, but the camera lies a bit because it does not pick up everything. SSR is out of Texas and has been around for at least 17 years

      Foam pads can be maintained dragging a screwdriver across a DRY pad at high speed. This will remove the abrasives/foreign material in the pad. Careful to angle the bit so it’s not too aggressive OR pointing into the rotation. Haven’t tried on wool or terry cloth, but it works great on foam.

    • @cvrpov

      No that won't work. If the paint seems a bit thin then possibly put some in a cup and let it dry slighlty

    Hi, thank You for the video. I’ve tried Your method. I’ve used the spray paint from can with exact number of color to match with my car’s color.
    But I didnt spray it directly on a car, I made few sprays to a cup and then I applied to a car with my finger - as was shown in video.
    The paint seemed a bit transparent and too much liquid, so I aplied 2 layers and then waited about ten minutes and then it was literaly IMPOSSIBLE to get the coulour out with the rotary pad 🙈
    So how long time is best to wait? 3, 5 minutes? Is the colour cured, when you begin to polish it, or is it still sticky to touch ? Thank You!

      @cvrpov By two stage do you mean any car with a metallic base and clear? Thats what i have, light colour too on my 97 lexus. Trying to find a work around bc the last owner "touched" in about a dozen chips and a deep key scratch and they've all come out a darker shade AND theyre not flush at all just painted chips. Maybe a rush job and not a proper paint match. Might try adding hardener letting it sit in the lid for a few mins and trying the card swipe method as well as the crown and wet sand method. One chip at a time and see what works...

    • @Calicarver
      @Calicarver Рік тому

      @@pixelbath2131 Thanks, that sounds like it might work. My plan is to simply carefully place a layer or two of (metallic) color paint into the chip "hole", then fill with clear and sand down with 1000 then 2000, then polish. these chips are about 2 - 5 mm diameter

      Multi stage paint is almost impossible to get right unless the basecoat is very close match to the overall colour. Ie not much pearl top coat

    I’d love to buy this and probably will but need a couple of questions. The car is an Audi Exclusive meaning it’s paint is a one off colour chosen by the first owner. I don’t know if the paint code even exists. Is there a way to match colour without the code? Also didn’t really understand the products. Are you applying the touch up paint by fingers then using compound or is it wax?

    • @cvrpov

      Hi mate. Google and Ring Derby VW TPS and chose option 2 on the phone. Give them your car reg and they should be able to provide you with a paint code. If they can't then it might be a bit tricky. Martin

    @cvr Thanks for your videos! I accidentally sanded a rock chip too much while trying to fix it. Now I have a penny sized hole down to the primer (white), surrounded by a 2 inch base coat area, surrounded by a 5 inch sanded clear-coat area. This is on my bonnet. What is the recommended course of action (can it be done with a touch-up pen of base-coat and another of clear)? Much appreciate your expert opinion.

      The method works with just solvent base on its own. In the paintgear kit I add an additive which is similar to lacquer but not actually lacquer as I personally think it adds 20% effectiveness to the process. Half the jobs in the video were with and f without.

    I have my paint color code, but how do I know if my paint is solvent or water base?('08 Accord) Aren't the majority of cars now water based? What happens if I have water base paint & use this?
    Also, will this work on a pearl paint ('10 Toyota Prius) that uses a tri-coat system instead of just base/clear?

    • @derekclarke2708
      @derekclarke2708 7 місяців тому

      Only the color (basecoat) would be water based, your clearcoat is not. It is more than likely Urethane. In any case you cannot perform these type of repairs with water base paint it simply will not work for a multitude of reasons. Waterbased touch up paint is only good for "dab and clear over" touch ups, so it would have to be solvent based paint. If you use urethane paint it will react with your clearcoat and "warp" it damaging it permanently. Choose your paint wisely
