I bought this cheap Chevy Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle at a State surplus auction here in Delaware. There was a catch however, an engine knock. Luckily the knock was diagnosed as something much less serious but in no way less expensive to fix. - Авто та транспорт
Awesome video! Thanks for the update been waiting for it
Yeessss ive been waiting for this like christmas😂😂😂😂 glad you got everything done at a great total cost.
Great to see you finally got it back. Looks good 👍
Sounds great, glad they did a good job on fixing it.
Glad to see you finally got it back. I like ur real videos with the real costs and no hidden secrets where you get it from. Unlike others who go to dealer only auctions. I have a 2008 Yukon Hybrid which I couldn't turn off the AFM and now it has dreaded cylinder 6 misfire which means AFM quit out. Now to find replacement SSV and put the hybrids interior into SSV.
Nice work,i hope she holds up over time.
Ive always wanted one but the information you've given have clarified some apprehension. Thanks for another awesome video.
Glad you finally have it now !
Glad to see its back from the shop. Nice video
Thanks man. I had a problem with the first upload as the video quality was lacking and some audio was missing too (user error!). The second upload fixed all that. Thanks for following along with this project! -Chris
What a great truck! Makes me want a Tahoe PPV! It'll be exciting to see what you do to it. Keep up the great work.
Alan, thanks for checking in. I appreciate that!
Good looking rig!! Put the silver center hubs back on it and fix the hood and it will look even better!!
She’s a beauty glad you finally got her back. Can’t wait to see your mods for it
Thanks man for checking out my Tahoe video and for following along! -Chris
Why you saying she
BAYNES1 BAYNES I just said she
Sounding GOOOOOD. Sweet truck. I really like this gen Tahoe.
Awesome update Chris! I’m glad to see your Chevy Tahoe running!
By the way I just bought a second Crown Vic for my father for about $900. It has about 160k miles on it but it runs great!
Hey Dorian, nice to hear from ya. I've missed your uploads but I'm glad you're back though. Thanks for checking in on the Tahoe vid. Congrat's on the 2nd Vic. I'm guessing the first one is doing well for you and now you just converted your dad. You should get some kind of referral bonus for that. Maybe Durian Fruit Cakes! LOL -Chris
Great video. Thank you. Please send more.
The newer Tahoes are pretty fast. Your model was a great truck and an awesome office space for patrol. It handled great but was kind of a dog (but I came out of a Caprice). With all the upgrades added I bet your truck is much better than what Chevy put out. Enjoy.
I've been waiting so long for this. I wanna see how this thing rips with the new cam.
The whole vid I was like "get on it" "get on it" lol. Great vids man keep it up.
Hahaha, yeah, I really don't run my cars hard. Kinda makes me feel guilty. Others though are asking for some full-throttle runs and 0-60 stuff, burnouts and stuff. Maybe I can put one together shortly. Thanks man. -Chris
Nice job. Thank you for sharing your project.
Glad your Tahoe is finally done; Few mods I would like to see: clean those hazy headlights and get chrome hubcaps that all Tahoe PPV comes with
Thanks man and thanks for checking out the Tahoe vid. I agree with you about the headlights and chrome caps. The lug nuts on the Tahoe are so dang tall that I can't get a scrub brush into the center of the wheel. The chrome center cap would fix that. I checked prices on Rockauto for new headlights and I think I'll first try to sand or buff what I've got and see how that turns out. I'll be putting together a vid soon on the problems with the truck including the headlights, lug nuts and a few other little issues like that. -Chris
My headlights were as hazy as yours, I used 3M kit and they look as good as a new set now. Also order LED headlight bulbs for better visibility at night.
fuck chrome
@@hullinger check out ChrisFix's headlight restoration video. Worked perfectly for my '02 Frontier.
@@hullinger , for the low cost, turtle wax headlight restore is magical.
Wow, a new engine may have been more economical. Pretty sweet though, Thank you for knowing what to do with a vehicle.
Nicely done....love those ppv.
Nice! I have the 6.2 6 speed no DOD Denali version of this. It has many of the upgrades you listed. I've also had a 4 speed Tahoe and agree with your sentiments. It might be cheaper and better to just go for the Denali over the ppv. Still, very nice build and video
With some center caps she will be golden!
*I agree* it definitely needs some center caps. I am also thinking refreshing the Chevrolet decals.
Sounds nice . I would like a nice exhaust for my Vic one day .
Amazing vid keep it coming
I been waiting 6 months for this . Tahoe came out great sounds healthy . Funny thing is I'm going to look at 2012 ppv on Sunday the same color & all I cant wait . Hopefully i buy it
Good luck with checking out the'12 PPV. I'd be curious to hear what you think about it. -Chris
@@hullinger ok keep you posted 👍🏻
Great truck now that’s how you it’s should be done in terms of the repairs
I’m really thinking about making that move
At the auction great vid
You got yourself one hell of a good truck/suv good envestment
I thought i subbed to your channel a long time ago
You give great detail in you vids
💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿👌🏾
Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you've joined me now. I appreciate you watching and I hope you enjoyed the Tahoe PPV video! -Chris
Nice vehicle, good enthusiasm too!
the 10 spd is great if you like a transmission that cant deciede what gear to be in. the 4spd is far superior in relability and shift quality
Hello Chris, finally, the "good piece" is back to your home. Congratulations.
That is a good message !
By the way: you all say "she" to a car. Is a car is female ?
We in Germany say "it" because we regard it as a thing (not male or female).
Otherwise, ....yes the Tahoe is big. if even you as Americans call the car big, that's interesting because you know big cars and use them every day.
Incidentally, I had the 5.3 liter, 320 hp tahoe on one of my last US vacation as a rental car. I had my whole family (four people) with me it was a great size for us.However, I was a little disappointed with the acceleration (That's what I also described in my second Autobahn-video where I'm traveling with my family car ) May be because of the huge weight that the tahoe is not really fast in the acceleration. if you are in a European car with only the half of horsepower you have a much better acceleration (I feel so). But may be due to your age-old gearboxes (the development of the gearbox is usually a long time ago) so that probably a lot of power in the transmission disappears before the performance even arrives at the wheels. a modern dual-clutch transmission would probably be better in the acceleration..
Greetings
Frank from Germany
Love your comment Frank and thanks for sharing. You know, I'm used to big cars and lousy gas mileage but this Tahoe just feels wasteful and excessive. And you are right about the transmissions. A modern transmission would be so much better in this Tahoe. -Chris
Test out a new 2019 Chevy tahoe rst...6.2 liter v8 with cylinder deactivation and a 10 speed automatic transmission :)
Yeah I don’t know about taking this Tahoe to the German Audubon, You could possibly end up with another knock.
Nice ride, well done, glad you drove it like an adult. I did notice what looked to me like a Corvair van. did I see it wrong.
Good catch on ID'ing the Corvair. And yeah, she's a 9 passenger Greenbrier. I've got some video's on my channel highlighting the van and some of the cool features about it. Check it out if you' want to see more. Oh, and thanks for comment and for checking out my Tahoe video too. -Chris
Love the color and the wheels they go good together
Great video sounds like a great vehicle
Great video bro this just really made me make up my mind on getting a Tahoe PPV vs a explorer hopefully I can had it to the Vic this summer
Thanks man, appreciate you watching and following along too. I'm rooting for ya and the Vic.
@@hullinger if everything goes right it's going to the shop next Friday morning
Yo man, looking forward to hearing more about the Vic getting back on the road. -Chris
@@hullinger yea if it all goes right it a be a video up next Saturday
Great video!
Sounds great
Never thought I’d see a channel in Delaware I’m from Milton Delaware.
Thanks for checking out my Tahoe vid. We'll need to do a Delaware roll call at some point since there's a few other subscribers on here that are local too. -Chris
My ok got her Tahoe on July 21st which is pretty cool
Digging the Corvair Van
That SUV is fantastic! Especially for what you have into it. And it sounds great. You're going to have to start flipping these cars and become the next Mario Castellanos of UA-cam. :-) Pat
Thanks for checking in Pat. It's always great to hear from ya. You always make me smile too. Not sure Mario has anything to worry about though. I keep looking for cars for sale in the Chicagoland area hoping to have a reason to make it your way. Someday! Someday! -Chris
@@hullinger Well if you ever locate a car from Chicago to Indy I'd be more than happy to check it out for you before you made a trip out.
❤️Thanks for the update Chris!❤️Been looking forward to this for a minute!👍Can’t wait to see your plans for it; be sure to take us along👍 Btw, what tires are you running on yours??.. OEM P265/60R17?
Hey man, thanks as always for following along. The tires are the stock RS-A's, in the 265/60/17 size. I'm told these wheels and tires are heavy and a lighter set of wheels really make a difference. l
Loved the update on the Tahoe, except...... Would have really enjoyed one good burnout scene. Not a smoke engulfed melting tire, just a full power takeoff. And maybe a 0 to 100 if you have a safe place to do it. I know you're in a little congested area so I can understand why you might not be able to release your inner teenager. LOL
Hahaha, yeah, good comment and I'm a little stuck with finding a good quiet area to do a burnout. But really, I don't drive my cars like that. Makes me feel guilty when I did. Others are asking for a full throttle and burnout too so maybe, just maybe I can put one together. Thanks man and I appreciate you following along! -Chris
Ha, dont do burnouts in those. The rear end lockers are kind of weak in them.
I love the "cop rims" - the steel black wheels; what size are they, 17 inch? Also, they seem to lack the chrome center hubcap for some reason. I would love to put a set of these on my 1997 Tahoe.
Lol she's alive 😂 thanks for the video i like this channel im from France 👍🔵⚪🔴🗼
Good looking HOT ROD. ! 👍🏁
Now you can buy HPTuners and learn to tune the truck yourself. You will be able to limit torque management and it will really perform. As long as TSP didn’t lock the ECM. The tuning School books are a great start.
Damn that sounds good!
Just curious, what are your concerns with the 4l60E? I daily drive a SSV 2007 and the trans is smooth as silk. Did a 2012 ppv with the 6 speed and the trans pretty much felt the same. IDK, maybe I just don't pay enough attention to the trans shifting.
Also, did the old cam have a wiped out lobe? Or was it a collapsed lifter causing the noise and misfire?
Hey man, my first experience with a 6 speed auto was in the Caprice PPV. That trans was always in the right gear no matter what speed I was going. The 4l60E just wants to get into overdrive as quick as possible. With the 4 speed, there is a big drop in RPM's between 1st and 2nd gear and it's like you're waiting for the RPM's to build up again. The 6 speed doesn't have that problem. Plus, you know, a bigger cam moves the power band moves up so now you're waiting for the power to come on again. Just my thoughts! -Chris
@@hullinger Hmmm, I wonder if the programming changed the shift points of it. I really never had a problem with the 4l60e exhibiting that condition in all the years of running them.
I take that back, the old Lt1 Caprices dumped them from 1-2 pretty quickly but only when going low speed, like being stuck in traffic. That was quite annoying.
Nice Job !
Pretty quiet truck considering all the stuff u got done.
I would love to get my hands on one of them
I recently purchased a 2012 Tahoe SSV, 4x4, 5.3L, flexfuel vehicle. I would like more information, parts and kits that you installed on your Tahoe. This vehicle is my daily driver and I want to stay on the mild side of modification. Any information you are willing to provide would be awesome
No dyno test. We'll I was hoping a burn out but it's all good. Still have to wait on mine just started a new job so my ava has to wait but I'm looking forward to it after this video
Whats your PPV year? Ive got an 11’, all stock. Runs beautifully.
Thanks for checking out my Tahoe vid. My truck is an '08. I'm pretty happy with her now that she's back in my hands. Took a long time for that to happen though. I think if I was doing it over again, I'll look for an 2009 or newer. Like your 2011, that get a 6 speed trans and I think that really matters especially when you're pushing 5300 pounds. -Chris
What would you recommend to get that sound on my 2014 Honda odyssey? Should I just change the headers? Or headers & exhaust?
Hey man, thanks for checking out my Chevy Tahoe PPV video the other day. I appreciate that. As for exhaust for your Honda, I bet there's a Facebook page for Honda Odyssey's that can guide you much better than I can. Good luck! -Chris
where do the stock rims go when they convert these fleet vehicles?
yeah, I wish you drove it and tested it "before" and "after" to see if the cam and other upgrades were worth it or not
hope you're planning a Tahoe vs Crown Vic daily driver comparison. My Avalanche is similar to a civilian Tahoe in performance, but noticeably not as good at handling, braking, and mid to high speed acceleration as the Crown Vic
Gary, I think a Tahoe vs. Vic video is needed too. Especially since my Vic and Tahoe are really close in model year. That vid will be coming at some point in the near future.
GM didn't add those things because it would have taken the cost per unit to a point where the various law enforcement agencies simply wouldn't have bought it.
Very nice. A great vehicle. you got.
Next steps: polish headlights, PDR hood dent, add missing DIC buttons for cluster, leather wrapped steering wheel, LED lighting
Thanks for checking out my Tahoe vid. I agree with you on the next steps with this truck but..., what's the DIC buttons? -Chris
East Coast Classics DIC is driver info center, civilian Tahoes had a row of four buttons that control various information displays in the gauge cluster, the wiring/plug is there but just not used on the police package. If you Google image search a Tahoe interior you’ll see the buttons to the right of the cluster. It’s a plug and play swap.
Nice V8 rumble!
whats with the temp tags and dealers, how are they able to get them for their own cars
Ok, Chris, a couple of questions...Do you still have the Caprice? And, whatever happened to the shop you were looking to buy/rent? Just wondering what the status is and if you were still going to go down that road. Thanks! Great vids as always!
Hey brotha, thanks for checking out the Tahoe vid. As for the Caprice, she's gone. I was getting the same ticking from the engine that this Tahoe had. I didn't have the cash to do another DOD delete, cam.... on the Caprice so I sold her to a great guy new New York City. Regarding that shop, I worked the numbers, spoke with some other repair shop owners and an accountant and I came away thinking there's just too much risk for the reward. It seems that having 3 or 4 service bays is what's needed to cover all the BS of running a shop and to make a decent living out of it. -Chris
@@hullinger I totally get it, I looked at a shop myself years ago, with a partner, and could picture the disaster looming, lol. The same guy went in with someone else and it didn't end well. Lawyers and seizures, etc. I am so glad I had the foresight to avoid the mess.
So are you saying your total cost for this Tahoe with purchase price, new parts and repairs is around $8,000?
Can you provide links to the purchases you made for all the mods/upgrade parts. I would like to buy a tahoe ppv.
I just added links to the description of this video.
@@hullinger Thank you. Btw the Texas speed link doesnt direct us to the actual item that you purchased.
Muscular looking truck.
Anyone that is looking for a Tahoe or has one Black Bear Performance can tune the Displacement on Demand OFF as well as give everything a nice tune in regards to shift points etc. Mine screams with just that alone and 93+ octane.
I would suggest the highest you can put in as it runs better on higher octane for this vehicle and recommended by them too. www.blackbearperformance.com/
I got the tune where they send you the unit to log the drive data and they tune from that.
Anyone know how to make my 08 tahoe do a burn out? It's stock. Planing on changing that soon.
@7:01 Detailed Description of the Difference between the Pedestrian Tahoe and Police Tahoe
I’m planning on getting a caprice PPV. Anyone know how much money I’d need to sink into the Delete for the Active Fuel Management.
Hey man, thanks for checking out my Tahoe video and for your comment. I had a Caprice PPV for about a year and absolutely loved that car. Super fast, rock solid and comfortable. As for the Displacement on Demand delete, if there is no engine problems the basic delete kit is $300. You can also turn off the DOD through a tune for around $100. If there is engine ticking noises than you'll need to do what I did and spring for the $1250 kit from Texas Speed and Performance or any of the other parts guys out there. There's plenty of them to choose from. You'll not only need the DOD delete kit but also a new cam and lifters as well as whatever other parts you want to replace while you're inside the engine. My all-in repair bill was $4800 but there were a bunch of extras I choose to do like water pump, plugs, wires, exhaust, headers... which added about an additional $1K. -Chris
Love it!
Oh good lord finally!!!
Not sure how you get around the check engine light with deleting the dod system. I live in a state which requires inspection and so this entirenproject would not be worth it due to inspection laws. I would have to keep the darn dod
The ac rear is working?
Where did you take this truck to get that dod delete???
Nobody likes DOD.
Did you watch the video?
Texas speed and performance
easydoz1 no i didn’t
Hey man, I bought all of the parts for the Tahoe engine from Texas Speed and Performance. I had a buddy do the work and he lives in Henderson, MD, which is close to Dover, DE. If you're in the area and you need his contact info just let me know. -Chris
Sucks its an 07 or 08 with the slow shifting 4spd transmissions.
U need a tune that will help with the trans.
Rear window defroster cord is loose. Need to solder it back on.
Just saw you turning onto silverside road Tahoe looks and sounds mean.
Dude, that's funny AND cool that you recognized the Tahoe. Thanks for sharing. Maybe we'll get a chance to meet up at some point. -Chris
Same motor in my 06 trailblazer going to do.the samething dod delete i have a.tick sound not.sure of.it is the exhaust manifold
That is very odd the LS engine needed to be replaced. LS engines are very reliable and police departments take very good care of their vehicles.
Timothy Isenhart could be an AFM issue
Tahoe and Caprice ppv cars have a ton of idle hours. Coupled with DOD and crazy lifter design I bought a 2012 Caprice with a bad lifter from Tennessee highway patrol same problem
Which sparkplugs are you running..?
I had to go through the receipts from the engine work on the Tahoe and it doesn't give the brand or model of spark plug that was put in. Sorry I couldn't help but thanks for checking out my Tahoe PPV vid! -Chris
I can see where you are coming from about the wotkshopat the least you should easily get enough out of it to covervall youre costs including thebrentand hopefully give youreself an income amy ways great vid ive learned alot
Thing that i cant understand is why are the front seats Fabric and the back are nice leather.
I’m pulling about 13 mpg highway at 70 mph in the winter with my 2009 Tahoe PPV after the DOD delete. Is this normal? stock cam and new spark plugs.
I am getting about 12.5 with my 2007 4wd SSV Tahoe with DOD delete.
Hey M PH, what's your thoughts on this Tahoe and the cost of everything that went into it? I'd be curious to hear your opinion. -Chris
@@hullinger Its definitely an interesting project. The add on mods done to it, its hard to say if it was worth it or not since you have no baseline comparison. If you enjoy it then it sure is.
I just did a 2012 with a bad cam. I used all stock oem parts for the cam replacement w dod delete (lt1swap.com did the DOD delete programming for $50). I paid about the same as you did for the truck, but did the labor myself. I had a little less than 1/2 of what you have into yours.
I've got a 2011 PPV with the 6 speed and 3:08 rear, I get 18 mpg at 70 on highway.
Randy Wilson does it have a DOD delete?
I'm curious if you'd ever consider getting a Taurus PI? Especially now that Ford is discontinuing them with sedans.
Thanks for checking out my Tahoe video. And yeah, I've been wanting a Taurus. Even checked out some at auction in Washington DC. It's on my list of cars to get. Just gotta find the right one at the right price. -Chris
East Coast Classics The prices should start to come down on them eventually. I’m holding out for a nice one too.
I’m in Canada, & there’s private dealerships selling them up here for around $8-10,000 CDN.
With a warranty & financing available, can’t go wrong.
@@hullinger I would never buy a Taurus or Explorer because of two reasons: timing chain driven water pumps and the PTUs.
The Tahoe came with the 5.3L LS V8 not the 6.0L LS V8.
Couldn’t you have used that water pump on the Greenbrier
Thanx from the left coast near the Krapitol of California
Hahaha, love that. I'm sure the Greenbrier would run cooler too with a water pump. -Chris
Yes.👌
I’m confused. So what was the actual problem with this motor and without modding it what would the minimum cost have been to get it back on the road?
Hey man, on my Tahoe video the problem with the engine was the lifters and camshaft. Both needed to be replaced as the lifters were getting stuck and chewing up a cam lobe. The labor to replace just the cam and lifters would have been only a little less than the $2404 that I paid. I figured since the engine is already taken apart that I should replace the oil pump, exhaust manifold, water pump, belt, hoses, wires, plugs.... as well. If you wanted to replace just the things that were broken, than the parts cost would have been around $700 or so. I've got other vid's on my channel about how the Displacement on Demand system works and a run-down of the parts that I bought. -Chris
Don't know if u still on the Tahoe looks like u may have put lots of money in it when u got it. Nice looking vehicle. Everyone I know who had one regretted buying it. Money pit as they age.
A 4 speed auto? Really? Wow, back to the early 90s 😂
Even my 02 Jeep has a 5 speed auto.
Less gears less problems
Fuck the Tahoe, pull out and show us that cool looking old van behind you .
Hey man, thanks for checking out my Tahoe PPV video. I appreciate that AND your interest in the van that is in some of the video shots. That van is a 1964 Chevy Corvair and is something I bought about 9 years ago. I made a video on it a few months ago that you can check out here. ua-cam.com/video/wRFvfVCNlDA/v-deo.html
Mate how ancient is a 4speed box these days
Man, that 4 speed auto is a relic from another century. It's almost embarrassing it was still being used in 2008.
Wrote "opps" instead of "oops" lol
Wow. After watching the whole thing. I was impressed with how much this video let me down. No cam specs. No real drive review or show of the difference in power. Even though you’ve never driven it. Hope to see more in depth in the future. A 6l80 swap would do wonders for this Tahoe as you said. Anyways. Time to stop being watching your channel and wait for more content I guess.
joe b instead of 6180 swap you might consider the 5150 option
Thanx from the left coast near the Krapitol of California
It seems Ford and Chevy copy one another...I'm a Chevy guy (they're just more reliable) but my Ford Expedition police model (ssv .. special service vehicle) handles much much better than the civilian version and take off is kind of impressive too.. I'd love a Tahoe one day, til the Ford bites the dust it'll be a strange duo in my driveway of a Chevy sedan and Ford expedition. Good luck, that Tahoe looks n sounds awesome, much better than a Ford equivalent (expedition)
The problem with the Expedition is that they are not really pursuit rated SUVs.
