Mary Ann's Bio:
I garden in Victoria BC, Canada Zone 8b
I have a No spray/organic garden.
I grew up in the Philippines and inherited my mom’s love of all plants and gardening, she can grew dead plants back to life. She had an amazing collection of Orchids which was her main collection.
I moved in Canada and met my husband here. I had a small rose garden in our other place and 2 1/2 years ago Winter of 2020 we moved to the old family home by the lake when my husband’s sister decided she can’t maintain the 1 acre property anymore. The place was in a whole mess, overgrown trees, shrubs and bushes, blackberries and all the weeds you can imagine. You can’t even see the lake.
We trimmed some trees ( can’t cut them cause they are regulated), cut the bushes and shrubs.
In Spring of 2021 I started building my dream garden. I garden by myself, I don’t have any help, I do the gardening before and after my full time job and on weekends. I fell in love with the place and the rich biodiversity in the place which is teeming with wildlife, from the smallest birds to the mighty eagles, owls, hawks and herons and of course my beloved hummingbirds. I promised myself to bring this place’s glory back.
The soil here is terrible, it’s all river rocks as big as my head and gravel no soil content on it. And no access of tools and machineries I have to dig out each hole and removed the rocks and replace with garden soil and compost, I have to haul the soil up and down the slope with my handy dandy gorilla cart. After digging 2 tiers 50 holes, I decided that’s it, I’ll just plant my roses in pots. And the rest is history. I am so proud of what I have accomplished in just a 2 years, I found serenity and peace in my garden whenever l feel overwhelmed with what’s going on around the world.
I attached pictures of before and after how our place looks like.
I hope my garden serves as an inspiration to all. Thank you.

Огромное спасибо за красоту.
Большое спасибо за добрые слова
An amazing profusion of roses and a gorgeous view.
You said all the roses are in pots , how do you prepare your soil and how do you water ? Your roses are beautiful.
Hi, my soil mix is 60% potting mix, 30% compost and 10% Worm casting.
And In the Fall and late Winter at pruning time I topped them with another 2 inches compost.
And every 2 years, I removed as much soil on top and replaced with new mix.

The Lisianthus is going to be Stunning when it begins blooming!
I am astounded that you know the names of every single rose! This is a beautiful paradise and something I aspire to have. The health of the roses even in pots! How do you overwinter them? Do you need to fertilize often? I would love to know how you keep them so healthy in pots.
WOW, just gorgeous, dreamland!
Hi
Are your Eden climbers all in the ground or do you have any in containers? Also, what size are your containers? Your garden is magnificent. Thank you for sharing!
So beautiful❤
Mary Ann you have outdone yourself! Seriously 2 years?? Incredible and you are so attuned to each one. I am in awe that most of them are in pots?! What do you use for treating black spot?
Thank you so much, I don’t use anything, I just pick the diseased leaves when I see them, but in general black spot is not an issue in our area but Powdery Mildew is. With PW I also don’t use anything, I’m refraining myself cause I want my roses to build their own resistance to diseases. and I also rely on Beneficial insects like the Mildew Eating beetles that are plentiful in my garden
Thanks for sharing, really like seeing before photos too, saved this to my Rose folder. Always love seeing hummers from other areas, wish we had others here on the east coast. Mine always let me know when they're here, then the boy processes to run the girls off the feeders.

Sorry but I gave up fb yrs ago.
Only 2 years old? Beautiful, rose garden.
A beautiful disease free rose garden. How in earth do you winterize your pots? I have alot of black walnuts trees mayor I should try the containers but I don't know the best way to winterize them.
Beautiful Roses! Do you protect them when temperatures are very low?
Hello, I never protected any of my roses in Winter, we have mild Winters in our area. Last year we had a very cold snap to -12C with windchills of -21C and I did not lose a single one.
I see Mary Ann responded to you! Thank you for watching.
@@MaryAnnsRoseParadise-se6bd good to know I live in Texas and I am new growing roses and every time the temperature goes down I am very scared and frustrated 😅 your temperature is very very low compare to Texas 🥶
Hello maybe i am am wrong , but I think the title should be Victoria , British Columbia
Just a 2 year garden, and in pots? Are they 15 gallon pots? And part shade is a blessing nowadays...
Most of them in pots but there’s more than 50 in ground, the upper tier are in ground. They are in 20” pots and yes, all partial shade. We have trees all around sun range from 2-5max and dappled bright shade all day.
It would be interesting if you could tell us which roses struggle for you and which ones are fairly healthy and resistant to diseases.
I agree! @MaryAnn! Can you answer that for us?
why do you prefer planting your roses in pots?
Beautiful garden. Keep inspiring us!
Thank you for being a part of our group!
