Such a lovely man. Even as a big footy show fan and before knowing about his dementia diagnosis- this always came across as bullying and never sat well with me.
It's absolutely disgusting. Was disappointed when the Footy Show changed format. Watched it religiously each year. After seeing the interview last night, i'm glad the show finished. It's just not good enough. Sincerely wish Mario and his family all the best. One of the toughest to play the game indeed.
Please just take this as a point of view from a casual observer who was neither invested in the Footy Show (I only watched it occasionally) and wasn't a big League fan (I only became aware of Mario Fenech when he played for the Bears). But from what I can remember it seemed like Mario was in on the joke and was naturally quiet funny. I thought it was all acting, similar to how a WWF (now WWE) wrestler would take a "beating". I just assumed he understood the role as the comedic relief and "sold" the joke really well. It wasn't apparent to me that he was being singled out as I assumed that it was just acting and that off the show, Mario was just a regular guy. I certainly never assumed he was a clown off camera and don't think that was how he was portrayed. Of course I could have missed many times where things went too far and I certainly aren't privy to what went on behind the scenes. And I know some of these jokes haven't aged well like the one eyebrow joke. If indeed this was bullying then naturally I feel bad for the guy.
I find it hard to look at this as bullying considering what they did to each other. Not a single one of them was free from mockery or pranks if you actually remember watching the show over the years.
I grew up watching nrl footy show... was funny all the time, and people watched it because of mario... highest rating show on 9 at the time so call it what ya want it was funny then and funny now, and with regards to what mario said well if it was bullying then muzz then why did you stay on? And like I said, we watched it's mostly because we loved watching you do funny things whether you were in or it or not... don't beat yourself up and think you were just the butt of the joke on the show, mate... either that or I'm wrong
How can you not love the falcon 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This guy is a legend
What a lovely guy
Ahh the memories! Miss the old footy show days haha
Thanks Mario. You are a gold plated legend.
What a great guy Mario is. Took a lot of stick and got on with it with a smile on his face. Genuine all-round nice guy.
Best memories. Good sport Mario! Miss the good ol days

I love Mario

Bring back the footy show
A Great Bunch of Villains, Great Guys ! So Funny.
Pretty sad reading about this today and how Mario was upset with the bullying and mocking etc
Not surprised tbh. Was cringey most of the time watching as a kid..

no wonder the show got the sack
The good ol days
Great viewing
What a bloke
I love Muzz. He was treated like an idiot, but had a great football mind. One of the toughest players in his era.
Reality u won't get this quality 🤣 entertainment 😉 again .
LEGEND ❤ 😆 🤣 😂 😹
This is bullying at its best.
Ye all cos he’s Maltese
Very sad

I felt sorry for Muzz getting 💩 piled on him. He’s a great bloke with a very good footy head, and his knowledge went to waste on the show.

Where is Mario these days?
Apparently Mario is not well
Its sad Mario was belittled - especially since he was diagnosed with Dementia age 52, and everyone on the footy show knew it ... its not funny .
