Submarines are the coolest type of ship by far, in my opinion, so I was pretty excited when I saw that WoWS added them to the game. I took the Balao out for a spin and didn't do amazing, but it was still fun.

I love seeing the sub changes in practice here. Some context for non wows players, one of the biggest submarine balancing issues used to be shotgunning, meaning the sub could walk up to a target (like

like carriers are gimped in World of warships, I understand there not fun to fight against as your just sailing letting AA do all the work automated, but damn they gimped em best they can. from negligible damage, Only can fly 1 sortie, and only attack with 2 planes out of the 10 flying at a time, and ordinance does nothing in comparison to IRL
no way to avoid AA as its consistent regardless and you CANNOT manoeuvre to avoid AA like IRL, and you cant use fighters to protect allies as its a "ability" that only lasts 30 seconds and only has certain amount of uses per game

@@emmettmccosker Gaijin partnered with some CCs to host a charity event called play4peace around Christmas 2021, they had a link they intended for new players for free Tier 1 vehicles and 7 days of premium. I say intended because nowhere on the actual link did it say new players only, and the link worked for existing accounts too. Gaijin tried to backpedal, took away the vehicles from players and indebted their accounts to whatever amount of premium they used and retroactively changed the link and then claimed it always said new players only, which was immediately debunked when people simply used the waybackmachine.
TL;DR Gaijin committed Fraud over 7 days of premium because they didn't double check their own charity event link. Some people will claim it wasn't fraud because they didn't INTEND to defraud people, but that's only in the US. In Canada, the UK and EU at least fraud does not need mens rea and simply the act itself is needed to count as fraud(Under S.4 of the CRA 2015 in the UK and dunno the exact laws in Canada and EU). Gaijin eventually undid all the indebting once people caught them but man they really did commit fraud over during a charity event, that is a low few people would ever sink to. And over $5 worth of premium no less.
@@emmettmccoskerThe snail held an event a few years ago that basically gave new players 1k GE or something like that. Already existing players could also use the code, which was not intended by the snail. Existing players that used the code basically went into debt, as any GE they bought after would go to repaying that debt, and not give them the GE they payed for.
This and a few other reasons is why most of the people only see the snail as a pos company that only cares about profits. and why most forums argue about whether something could be added without hurting the "Profits". (premium vehicles, ge, cash flow basically)
@@emmettmccosker Back in 21, Gaijin had a event going, usual thing you see in ads of 'new people get X premiums vehicles and Y premium time" and had an invite link. But they *didn't program the link properly properly*, so existing players could use it to just grab a week's worth of premium time for free. Even people who didn't know this, you could only really tell by seeing the premium reward text grayed out yet still claim it, wound up getting the extra. When Gaijin fixed it, they labeled it as an Exploit, and anyone who had more than a week's premium time when they claimed the reward got their account slapped with a debit of however much of that premium time the user had consumed.
TL;DR: Gaijin made a technical error, people grabbed premium they weren't supposed to have, Gaijin penalized them instead of saying mea culpa.

I was pissed they didn't have deck guns when I had to surface😐
They recently "Nerfed" Subs, but then secretly buffed them at the same time. They made it so that below 2km, torpedoes do less damage. But, they also gave out a 15% damage buff to all alternate torpedoes a Sub gets.
Under 2.9km deals less damage. 2.9 to 3km it rapidly scales up to normal damage.
Prety sure a torpedo do the same damage, regardless on how depth is the sub ( real life )

Hi Spookston! welcome to the game! About your sub gameplay, you might wanna know that sub torpedoes have a 3 km arming range in this game, this is because at the start players would attemp "shotgun maneuvers" on other ships and it was impossible to dodge. this might be why you couldnt kill that cruiser on 8:30. hopefully you enjoy the game a bit more!
So as a wows sub player few things to note
-Recently they made it so below 3km sub toros do fuck all damage
-You can use the white outline as a guide to land torps
-Alt torps do more damage but are slower and can’t home in
-Don’t get spotted if you do ya got a 95% death rate

Honestly the Battle of the Atlantic event in WarThunder is some of the most fun I have had. Both going submerged in the U-Boats, and hunting them in my favourite destroyer, the Fletcher Class. The metal creaking and bending and the pitch black water when underwater was so scary yet so amazing. Felt like I was in both Das Boot and in Greyhound
7:00 Fun fact: submarines arent considerd ships by the US Navy. Theyre pretty much the only vessel they call boats. Then again they do carry the usual USS (United States *Ship*) designation

6:56 mine are definitely battle cruisers. They’re powerful enough to destroy almost anything, and fast enough to outrun the few things they can’t destroy. And they look so freaking cool

Day 38 You should play a tank with hydropneumatic suspension (recommend the MBT-70) But the catch is you have to drop the suspension as low as it can go for the whole match.
Subs actually got changed just a few days ago so their torpedoes do less damage if you're close to the enemy.
Not sure why they did that because it really incentivizes selfish and scummy play but hey... Not my game to publish :3
Also, pinging the same sector twice ("double pinging") is going to significantly improve the homing and make it very hard to dodge torpedoes.
Alternate torpedoes (the ones with the line in the icon) do not turn to chase a target and basically act like destroyer torpedoes. They're a good option when you are fighting an aware enemy and need to not be noticed by your pings.

I love watching him shotgun enemies without any realization that they're only doing a tenth of their full damage at close range.
Haven't watched the video yet but heres some tips:
Submarines torpedoes have an arming range of 3km, when you fire them within this range their damage is greatly reduced (This is to prevent players from 'shotgunning') (they are reduced to something like 1/10th damage)
Depths should be used in different situations (0 when no enemy's are present) (10 when you can see enemies but the are not close)
(30 when you are at risk of being spotted) (60 fighting other subs, provides increased dive capacity)
Changing your dive level slows you down, panic diving to the depths is unwise.
Generally if you have been spotted you are already dead
Do not over extend from your team, this is the main killer of sub players (and any player really)
Target ships that are over extending from their team.
If spotted dive to 30 and change course 90°, this will help you avoid depth charges.

probably like a year ago I made a comment about how much I like your content and always watch it when eating and don't even play war thunder myself because somehow its just something to shut down and laugh along with. Hey Spookston, as someone who works at a museum that has a Balao-class submarine on display, I just wanted to let you know that "Balao" is pronounced "BUH-LAY-OH".
It's also interesting to note that the submarine you are playing is in GUPPY (Greater Underwater Propulsion Power Program) configuration, which was a post-WWII US Navy program to increase underwater performance of fleet submarines. The USS Balao herself did not receive GUPPY upgrades, but many members of her class did.
I think was Spookston didn't realize is that sup torpedoes now do less damage if they if they have traveled less than 3 km. So, they do full damage at 3 km. It is great to see him try out subs. I am bad at them.

you should play the ki 48 II Otsu in war thunder and use the cruise missile that it has (it's at a BR of 2.3 and can one shot a lepard 2 PL)
Spookston you need a guide (stay above water before you are spotted and use this for a speed advantage then if you can try to doge bullets by swerving like turn left right ect make sure you turn in the direction of the bullets if there close because you go faster than the Bullet destination is because you turn slow and get hit I'm saying not directly into the bullets but swerving makes you a hard target and you can go into a direction that when you stay in that direction you will start to go faster than turning away but it is most recommended if you want to play safe sink whenever they start firing the bullets the previous is for pros but it's recommended just thinking whenever it is fire and then rising again to make them waste their bullets every time they fire go down and then rise for 02 and I mean sink rise sink rise in short periods wastes enemy bullets and save 02 your best strategy to guarantee hits is to get close and then fire torpedoes put one thing with war thunder mobile is that the torpedoes only reload on the surface okay if you're going to read this
1 stay on surface as much as you can until you're spotted try to take cover behind any Islands or even allies so you can get up as close as possible to your target
2 more time on surface equals more time speed whenever your torpedoes are at a distance and are near an island and also farther in distance than the island don't fire.
3 never go directly behind a ship they have a these barrels that they put into the water that explode and hurt submarines even if they're at a very deep depth while ships speed off and even if they're in the fire zone they don't usually take much damage
4 just like in tank battles always avoid planes unless you're an AA specialist submarines don't really have much of any armor planes can just drop bomb s or they can even shoot you causing little but some damage
5 don't try fighting other submarines with torpedoes if you have a main Cannon use that if your enemy has a main Canon and you don't stay away from that submarine your best bet is actually going for ships that ships are an easier Target.
6 unless you're a Target has bad Wi-Fi bad Fps , bad attention or doesn't know how to turn, don't fire from a long distance anyone smart we tried to dodge the torpedoes at least in war thunder you can see torpedoes if they can't see torpedoes then you might not have a problem
7 when submarines are underwater they usually go slower so ships end up going faster.
8 you can try creating your own custom types of moves whether it be swerving whenever the anime fires at you and knowing when to stop swerving you can do that were any other pro move out there use that play the pro moves are usually commonly for rare situations. Whenever you can use a pro move use it
9 for upgrades dryer to make sure you get as much crew on board as possible. Bring as many med kits then fpe then repair. Also always repair underwater that's where you want to spend O2 repairing and healing your crew. But of course you got to take care of fire asap because fire can be the most deadly thing on your submarine besides continuous attack.
Anyways my way of playing submarines is usually not stealthy.

Do you not have aft tubes? Balao (and other US late war subs) had 10 tubes in all; 6 forward and 4 aft. The standard tactic was to launch the bow tubes, turn 180 degrees, while reloading, and fire the stern tubes as you run away.
Balao does have it's 6/4 config, guessing Spookston just didn't notice he had the extra tubes on the aft.

Submarines always were and still are my favorite ship class as well. Tho i also love carriers. Their both so cool and unique looking to me and feel a lot more unique and strategic in their usage then the regular surface ships which just feel blank and basic to me.

You can't do full line-ups in WoWS or WoT. You pick your vehicle and you get one life per match, so if you die you can either spectate or go back to the hangar. That is actually one thing I like about those games over WT. It forces you to slow down and plan ahead, gauge risk vs reward. The downside is that some people play too cautiously and wind up costing their team dearly by not being in range to deal damage to the enemy or share armor. Carriers have some of the best AA in WoWS and a decent amount of hit points, but most carrier captains hug the back edge of the map, leaving their team more exposed to enemy bombers than they should be.

It does not, Warships is more arcade than realistic. It is a fun game though if you can put up with arcade style game play, and don't fall into the echo chambers of a lot of the CCs. Who mostly seem to hate things just to have things to hate.

You could try playing Ise (if you have it that is, it is a premium ship). its a hybrid battleship that has torpedo bombers. It isn't very effective, but it is still quite fun to play.
Fun fact, you have 2 types of torps, homing and regular. Stop ignoring the normal torps, they are incredibly powerful.

Important to note, for some of the torp launches, you used the non-homing torpedoes. Pinging the target would do nothing for you except give away your location.

What is amplified version of how to play submarine
1 always try to take cover whether it be behind an island or an ally
2 try to stay above surface as much as possible you go faster that way usually significantly faster.
3 don't shoot torpedoes from a very long distance that usually ends up in failing and wasted torpedoes along with notifying other ships you're a threat and you somewhat don't know what you're doing so just don't
4 avoid planes especially revenge bombers just like in tanks unless you're an AA specialist you're going to want to avoid the planes submarines don't have too much armor and when the plane knows what it's doing you're going to be in trouble
5 don't fight other submarines with torpedoes just don't if they try to fight you with torpedoes try to dodge as many as possible it waste the enemies torpedoes ect. If you don't tell the main Cannon don't even think of fighting one that does.
6 bring as many med kits as much Fpe and repair kits as possible. But if you have the option make sure you have as much crew as possible more crew gives you basically a bigger health bar.
7 always tried to click the repair button / medic button as much as possible unless it's like the lowest percentage of crew and also make sure you repair underwater.
8 if you can bring as much torpedoes as possible and also if there's any way to wet your storage making your ammo less explosive do that.
9 believe it or not driving between the crossfire of two ships it's not as bad as an idea as you may think 1 your enemy is probably more distracted with your allyship that's firing back at it more than it is about a submarine out of torpedo range. Allowing you to travel towards the enemy ship
10 this might not be the most helpful but can be whenever there is crossfire try to make it to where it looks like you're heading somewhere else rather than towards your target. But this should be the last of your concerns the very last but in some scenarios it can be very helpful as long as you ain't to fire in torpedoes like crazy you look peaceful and you look like you're going a different direction they might be paying a little bit more attention to the Allies that are shooting at them then something that looks like it's trying to play pacifist.
Please play the Spitfire MkVc/trop with stealth belts I find it very effective for anti CAS, dogfighting, and on open top/ light vehicles

Anyone remember when WoWS wasn't supposed to get subs? Something about being able to nuke and sink ships, before they could do a thing. Or in the opposite case, having your sub nuked before you do anything.
