Especially at Walmart. I worked at the customer service desk for around 3.5 years. Not administrative assistant. I honestly laughed at that.

Legally blind is a common term and a diagnosis, it means the person can see a little bit, but not much. So she may be able to make out shadows and light for example. It also means she is at the point where she cannot drive and would need assistance with some things. I'm surprised you've never heard it, I'm in the UK and it is a diagnosis here as well.
She possesses makeup abilities even though she is visually impaired.
@@monicaxxx4726 many people do. Legally blind means in your best eye your vision is 20/200 (where 20/20 is normal eyesight) or less or your field of vision is 20° or less. So it could be she has a really narrow field of vision, which would mean she can do makeup. Remember she wasn't born like this she did say what year she was diagnosed as some conditions mean it gradually deteriorates. So people can retain skills from before. I have had to relearn how to do my makeup with my other hand because of disability. That can be difficult still because of mascara and especially eyeliner but I can get there. I had a diabetic eye screening the other day and the optometrist (who had never met me before) showed me how he could see I was short sighted as opposed to long sighted just from the photo of the back of my eye! I was wearing glasses but we hadn't discussed them as it wasn't relevant to the screening.

If your vision is 20/400 or worse, you are classified as legally blind. There are varying degrees of blindness -- my mom's boss was totally blind. He had been a star basketball player at Holy Cross University when he went blind overnight. Another friend was a Carmelite nun, who had macular degeneration. When she was first diagnosed, she came back to her convent, and they'd packed her bags and handed her a bus ticket.

Legally blind doesnt mean entirely blind. My downstairs neighbor is legally blind but can make out general outlines and shapes but not enough to be able to drive or manage without a guide dog.

The issue is he wanted to pay her under the table, but she needed to show those papers of her working to social services so she could get help with daycare financially. And to do that, he would have to pay her correctly. That is where the discrimination is coming from. Not from her disability but from her wanting to be legit and him not wanting to be.

@kristophamiller - I seriously don't know. I grew up with a blind guy from age 5 who couldn't see a thing. When he spoke to you, his eyes were all over the place. But he was a great guy, a fun-loving, good friend.
Then many years later I had, note HAD, a friend who was legally blind. She was on all sorts of benefits, the government bought her a nice 3-bedroom house, she even had a car that she would personally drive around in.
Go figure that one out🤔
Legally blind is a diagnosis where you are no longer able to see 20/20 even with corrective lenses.
Basically if you can no longer get glasses/contacts/surgery to be able to see then you are legally blind.
For example shadow/lights/blurs in a certain range of vision you can see and that's all.

Legally blind does NOT mean one has complete vision loss.
"Legally blind" encompasses many degrees of blindness. It doesn't necessarily mean having zero sight. My father was legally blind, but he had sight. It wasn't very good, and glasses only helped him enough to walk around his house without hurting himself. He wasn't allowed to drive, and my sisters and I would only let him use the microwave with supervision (to make sure he nuked something for the right amount of time) and never the stove. He didn't wear dark glasses like Ray Charles, and he didn't have a cane or a seeing-eye dog.
So, there's no reason to think she's lying about her disability. She might be, but the fact she doesn't look like a stereotypical blind person isn't proof.

Whether or not the defendant did discriminate against the plaintiff, you CAN discriminate against someone disabled that you hired. Just because the disabled person was hired does not negate that they can still be discriminated.

it's a big problem in Canada now as well. Disabled ppl want to work at jobs / courses that they're not able to perform. WE had a lawsuit by one woman who was totally blind....she wanted to take up fencing with those epee's (the thin swords with a plug on the end of the tip....hard to hurt anyone) The fencing school said OK. After awhile, she wanted to fight with sabers. .....they have a LONG cutting edge. The school said that it was too dangerous.....so she sued. (the news never said what the outcome of the lawsuit was)

Anyone who is legally blind (20/400 or worse vision) qualifies automatically for SSD benefits. It's one of the few disabilities that you don't have to jump through hoops and have a disability advocate/lawyer to receive those benefits.
