His tone and phrasing are out of this world! Thank you for introducing this amazing guitarist to me, Brett!
I was watching Robbies modal rhythms video on truefire when this popped up. I love Robbie's playing and hes one of the best educators on the planet. Watching a lot more of your other videos too now Brett. Your questions always turn the interviews into great lessons. And you're so humble. You're a kick ass player yourself. Thanks man.
These Robbie Calvo series of videos was helpful and pure joy to watch!
@@BrettPapa That's great! I just have to find the time to immerse myself in his lessons, and in your content. Balancing work, family and chores leaves too little time. But that one thing that Robbie said in another video, is important. Don't just sit and noodle, but do your e.g. Amaj7 arpeggio, play the four chord tones. And be purposefull when playing. Those are really great tips! Anyway, there's so much content, sometimes it's hard to know where to begin, but right now I'm checking out the CAGED pentatonics and arpeggios, to get that into my fingers. And always play purposefully.
I think Robbie Calvo is the best instructor out there. Thanks Brett
He is awesome! I have two new courses coming out with him soon at brettpapa.com!
“Instead of working on your weaknesses, take your strengths and amplify them”. Yes 👍
Being sensitive is a great asset to an artist, because if you're not feeling it, neither is the audience.
I discovered Robbie Calvo a few years ago and instantly fell in love w his teaching and phrasing. His voice is also magic, it's so calming. Robbie Calvo is the Bob Ross of guitar instruction.
“Reference the melody, take them on a journey and then bring them back”, Great advice! 👍
Had the pleasure of going to Robbies home in Nashville for a Course he was teaching. "Sweat Notes". There was maybe 10 of us all at his house. Very intermit setting. That's where I had met Phil Bradbury from Little Walter Tube Amps. Phil's an incredible amp builder and Super Nice guy. A Friend. Robbie is such an amazing guitar player. Tone to die for!!!
I only discovered Robbie a couple of weeks ago through Truefire and he is quickly becoming one of my favourite guitarists. Love his modal.playing and awesome tone.
The restrain is invaluable...the tone is wonderful! I love this video guys and Thanks so much!!!!!
Papa. Thanks for showcasing Robbie. Long videos are definitely worth it, with amazing information IIke this. PS, still waiting for those characteristic notes within the modes...lol. I think it's actually in Robbie's truefires. I'll check it out. After years of noodling, once I decided to take guitar seriously, "about a year ago" I found a vid of you. From there I've been introduced to my greatest teacher, Guthrie Trapp. As well as what I call my core educators. Pierce, Congolio. All from you. I also use Ford's rhythm drum track in my head, all of the time. I love Robbie's melodic courses, and now he's sitting here with you. If you set out to introduce the lost, the stuck, to the best educators on the web, you've done it. And if you were a part of Guthrie's motivation to get Youtubin, I sincerely thank you. We love what you're doing. Keep it up.
I picked up my guitar at the start of this vid and tried this string-skipping idea within the minor pentatonic box 1. Whoa, immediately it has that different fresh sound. Awesome awesome concept!
Fantastic guitar lesson followed by some great life lessons.
Keep going until you hear no.
Rather than working on your weakness, focus on what your good at.
More of this guys, you work great together. Robbie has a great teaching style and Brett asks all the right questions . It's like being in the room
I really appreciate the fact that you mentioned the tension issues Robbie. I was in a bad car accident a messed my right shoulder up pretty bad but damaged my pinky on my fret hand and only have movement at the largest knuckle. It’s definitely guys like you that encourage me to keep working at it even when it seems impossible. Your a killer player, I admire you and your playing a lot!
Brett, you've become such a great facilitator of guitar greatness. I bought your CAGED course and it was great. Love how you explain things and make sure it's simple enough for all levels to understand. And you keep bringing brilliant guests on your channel. Robbie has been the most eye opening for me. Thank you for introducing this to me. Keep up the awesomeness! And your humbleness is what makes you so easy to watch and understand. A musicians musician.
Thanks so much! Thanks for the support. Glad to hear you liked the course! Robbie and I are putting together something awesome as well! Starts next month! More coming soon!
Thankyou for this Bret and Robbie .
I think it would be great if you had tabs made available for the soloing for these awesome videos with Robbie because that would be really helpful for everybody who wants to learn, I have to keep on slowing the video but still can't capture everything. Thankyou.
Thanks man! Robbie and I have done a number of courses together where you get tab, jam tracks, etc. They are available on my website.
How can anyone hit the dislike button for papastache videos? Not fair at all! Always awesome stuff!
Thanks papi. Now that’s what I call some applied music theory! I learned all this theory on intervals and then didn’t apply any of it. Glad it’s being applied directly here
Really pretty in a great way. Would love to hear similar stuff on an acoustic. Thanks for sharing.
I think this could be the best video I've seen on the subject of guitar playing. Thanks!
killer lesson and awesome ideas!!!! this is so easy to make a huge change in your phrasing...wow!
Oh boys the end conversation is exactly what I needed to hear right now!! Thanks again Brett see you on the couch !!!!!!
Wow this is great stuff ! Thanks for the great lesson and that tele is beautiful
Love the musical and melodic approach to soloing like this! really enjoyable thanks :-)
This is brilliant. Alternating double stops with wide-spaced intervals from the pentatonic and major scales.
I love this , not just playing some cool guitar but a nice conversation thrown in . ;-)
So right about sensitivity......if you don't feel it.....you're just throwing notes up in the air.
A renewed respect for RC and Papa.
Tastefully done.....
Thank you Papa.....stache.
You are yourself an awesome guitar player, and I love your finger style hybrid picking technique, and I would be awesome if you could make a detail video, specially adding dynamics to southern style blues licks that sometimes zakk Wylde or Jared James Nichols plays.
Whoa I have trigger finger on my left forefinger and 2 problems with left hand knuckles because of dislocations, I finally see what I should do instead of trying to be something i cant be, work to your strengths.
Hey Brett, how's the Hendrix rhythm course coming on. I'd love it to come out before I'm too old and arthritic to play anymore!
Haha! Just getting into the new studio! Move took way longer than I expected! Start back up on it soon!!
All of these comments below: Amen. Fresh air indeed. You notice how efficiently he moves? Look at his fingers on 2:47 just doing the minor penta demo. He barely moves. This is important - and takes some conscious practice.
Robbie makes a lot of sense. You both do. I recently made myself watch a couple of famous shredders because I never watch them. Now I see why. It was nothing but fast licks and not really that impressive to be honest. Like watching a 3 hour guitar solo. I like bands like The Eagles, The Cars, Skynyrd. They have beautiful, melodic and meaningful solos!
Yes they do! Some of the best in my opinion. Neal Schon of Journey is one of the tastiest fast guitar players ever! Check him out in the older stuff! Perfect use of taste and speed!
Which one of Calvo's courses teaches the intervallic soloing? Thanks, nice video.
Great lesson! Any chance to get the initial backing track?
Contact Robbie through his site. He may have it. If not I know he has a bunch of other tracks available.
Awesome videos with Robbie!
Just curious - what are those tendon issues that Robbie speaks of? Is it from playing guitar?
Great stuff Brett. Robbie’s playing is so fluid and interesting. Love the tone of that Tele. Sounds like a good bit of compression used.
Thanks ya sir! Glad you liked it! Robbie gets great tone and that Tele is sick!!!
mOre wonderful stuff...AAAAAAck!!! where do we get just teh drum grooves...wow!!! ;0) M
He gets them off of Logic Pro. It has a drum loop creator built in. Pretty amazing!!
After watching I can fumble and still play better than I did before and still not know that was the sixth ninth or eleventh, really smart guy he talks like he plays, calm, controlled, deliberate with a splash of fun once in a while. Ok I’m leaving 🛸
I bought a course from your site, the Hendrix course, and never received an email with the login info. I sent several emails and never got a response. Can you help me out?
Hello! The site you are referring to I have no control over. The only site I own and run is brettpapa.com. Sorry for the confusion!
Didn’t know Dennis Waterman could play guitar...
He sounds like Benedict Cumberbatch to me..
there is a loss of communication between you guys. brett's yeahs really disturbed me. let robbie explain his art dude
I love this guy, he just plays the right notes, so tired of shredders, he's a breath of fresh air, makes you think when playing, very inspiring!!!
Yep for sure! Every note matters!
yeah! Agree 100%
Paul Gilbert takes offense to that 😂
