Ride Along - Denver Truck 4
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- I rode along with one of the busiest truck companies in the United States to see what a 24-hour shift is like. Denver, Colorado Truck 4 is stationed in "LoDo" (Lower Downtown) where their first due area includes numerous high rise buildings, Coors Field, a sprawling entertainment district, multi-family apartments, single family dwellings and sadly, a large population of people experiencing homelessness.
In 2021 Truck 4 topped the Firehouse National Run Survey after responding to 7,540 incidents! In 2022 Truck 4 responded to 5,459 incidents thanks to the BLS fast response unit (Med 1) taking all first-out low acuity EMS calls in Downtown Denver. During 2022 Med 1 responded to 5,462 incidents.

Thank you to the Denver Fire Department and the personnel at Firehouse 4 for welcoming me in and allowing me to tell this story!
i love seeing you with diffrent departments, riding with them, its amazing to see how different departments can be
Can you comment on what differences have personally caught your attention? Just curious 👋
@maruiacancerccome on stop with your scam already 😂
Interesting how concern trolling by using the fire department to hassle bums out of the area now that cops can't is almost universal. It's a waste of money and resources and people calling for that should be charged.
Thank you Eric, after the fire alarm on 1801 wynkoop st. I went home because my bike battery was below 15% so it was time work my way back home near Denver fire headquarters (station one)
are you the guy who protects the trucks? if so good job :) stay safe brother
Good job protecting the apparatus buddy. Keep it up.
It was great seeing you and thanks for being in the video! Stay safe out there.
Nice UV-82 you should bring a small camera along too in case anything interesting pops up during your travels.
@@WorkingFirePIOpeople keep being mean to me and what should I do
Great video Sir it’s nice to see how the fire fighters interact with the members of the community letting the kids sit in the fire truck . Watching from the U.K.
@maruiacancerclmfaooo just stop already
Thanks for watching!
Again.... Amazing Video Eric !!!!!!! Great Job 👍👍👍
@@WorkingFirePIOpeople keep being mean to me what should I do
Loved the "B-Shift's right" clip there, good laugh! Great video, really enjoyed it!
To all of the Firefighters. Thank you so very much for your service to our Country. Your hard work and dedication is outstanding. May God bless you all and keep you all safe and healthy where ever you go
It's amazing how you travel to all of these different departments, not only ride along with them, but show us how the different fire departments here in the United States operate. We thank you for doing what you do! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great seeing some nice, practical upgrades to an older station.
I agree! The firehouse is very functional and comfortable.
Awesome Eric!!! I did one with Engine 1 back in the late 90's... We did 19 calls from 7a to 10p.... What a blast that was... Keep these uP
Busy days like that sure go by fast!
Great video Eric, kudos to Truck 4!STAY SAFE TO ALL!!🇺🇸🇺🇸
Outstanding to see how other departments operate!
First time watching and I rediscovered my childhood obession. I'm hooked
I spent a few weeks in Denver last autumn (visited SMFR as well). Didn't spend that much time in downtown Denver but still recognised some places
Excellent video. I worked with DFD in the early 00s as a master’s candidate in urban planning. We used nearest neighbor statistical analysis to plan their newest fire station location…good stuff.
My hubbys old district with DPD. He worked hundreds of times with DFD. He always said he did not want their job and they did not want his. He had utmost respect for them and their work. Thise old buildings can be fun!
Retired from Denver Engine 20 over 20 years ago, so obvious to say I don’t recognize anyone, but enjoyed the video. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! I was surprised to learn Med 2 runs out of Station 20.
KAB-249
Impressive ride along, thanks for taking us
Eric wow!!! 17 calls that’s insane !!
This is typical for big city fire companies. Most FDNY (New York City) companies will have 4000-7000 runs per year but more of their runs are for actual fires & rescues, not just EMS first responder calls. Station 9 of LAFD famously is the busiest firehouse in the country per run numbers with about 35,000 runs in 2018. The numbers are dropping but that's an average 95 runs a day. These were almost all medical calls since they're in the Skid Row district of downtown LA where homeless campers & substance abuse are common. But this is what FFs do these days. Fewer fires but many more medical service calls.
It's awesome to see these guys do what they were born to do, Great work!
Thank you Eric for the awesome videos miss my friend
Very cool video, Eric - Station 4 is for sure one of the busiest fire stations I've ever taken videos at 😪😄
Just found your channel and love this in depth ride along format. Ive watched you many times before on the south metro channel.
Thank you and welcome to the new channel!
great video Eric!
I've visited Denver twice, both times staying at the Westin on Lawrence St. in Dec. 2021 and Dec.2022 a few blocks from that station. It was a busy truck, I heard and saw it running a lot. Denver wasn't bad of a city to visit but there's quite a meth/homeless problem there and that station I see why it's closed up and fenced.
Thanks for sharing this video Eric wow you are right they are a busy house!!! Interesting calls they had to respond to, can’t wait to see more videos you post. 👍
DFD's trucks all look so good. White firetrucks are SO clean. Also the charter bus style mirrors is a neat look
They are terrible & being replaced in most depts that bought them. Too much vibration & the mirrors are too far away from the driver.
@@dbyers3897 that's totally understandable, there must be a reason no other manufacturer does that
I rode with New Bedford Engine 7, New Bedford, Ma. The busiest engine company in the city. Station right in the center of the city so if they get any fire related calls they can go anywhere in the city. They can go all the way up north in thr tip top pf the nprth end, dpwn to the very botton of the south end, and all the way to the edge of the west end, and ofc downtown. We did a lot of medicals, 1 still alarm, 3 box alarms activations, 2 reported structure fires, 1 confirmed structure fire, we also did a mva with a car into the woods. Also rode with NBEMS medic 3, one of the two busiest medics in the city. We did 16 calls in 9 hours. Never thought of any better job then those.
This is Awesome Eric 😎👍 Thanks for showing Denver Fire 4 and the calls you went on *** Thanks to the LT for the Station tour 👍
Eirc, thank you for putting out awesome content. One of these days, you'll have to come to Billings MT and do a video.
Great video! Again!
Impressive video as always. I really do enjoy seeing some of the new areas
Just saw this channel. That is really nice content! Keep on going ! Thank you
Love the mile high
Hi from Foley,Alabama. Former Volunteer Firefighter.
Hi, Eric,
I lived a block from station4 which is at 1890 Lawrence Street.
That’s cool they remodeled their kitchen and continue upgrading things when they can.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that plot get developed into a high rise with a new station integrated into the building. I know they do that sort of thing in other cities.
you should ride along with one of Denver's rescue companies to see the difference between Denver's rescue crew and Wichita's rescue crew.
This stuff is money! Keep it going!
Eric-this is awesome. So glad I discovered this, keep up the great work.
Great video. Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks for watching!
Lots of B.S. calls. Same throughout the country in large cities. The homeless drain resources with thousands more pouring in each day. Good video, good people. Stay safe.
Love this new series of videos.
I wish you could do these kind of videos once a week they’re really cool
I’d love a Detroit fire department video!
Can we get the tones? Lol great video❤ beautiful truck
You should check out creede Fire department in Colorado. They have the only underground cave fire station in the world
so cool you get to go to station for a day and do ride along love that keep doing these video's
Great series!
Eric, You have got to be one of the best videographers I have ever seen. Your shots look amazing, B-roll is badass per usual and just your overall content on the PIO UA-cam as well as here on your own personal one is amazing. I seriously can't wait to see what more you do with this channel. On a side note: If I could recommend a agency to ride with, You should most definitely come out to the city and hop on Engine 30 in the City Of Detroit! She's one very familiar and popular engine. She is housed with Medic 3. Keep up the amazing work brother!
Love the show great episode
Excellent video really enjoyed it.
Outstanding Denver Fire Service Give All Nations Fire Depts what they back bill the cities icon ties if need be
Eric,
This is amazing. I’ve followed your videos for South Metro for a long time, and I love to see you break out a bit outside SM.
If you ever make it to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, let me know!

I am from the Midland tri-cities area, have you thought about reaching out to Heros Next Door?
Nice, liked and shared 🧑🏻👍🏻🚒
21:43 why is he putting jelly on the pizza
Best ride along video, good job
Another awesome job !! Be cool if you ride with Denver Rescue 1 & Rescue 2 and maybe DIA fire Station's 31,32, 33, 34, 35
I love your video Eric ❤❤❤
Love your channel buddy! Keep up the great work and content! You should visit Charlotte NC Fire Department
Much appreciated and thanks for your suggestion!
In the great words of your PIO intros "Metro fire what's the address of the emergency?"
Awesome video
These videos are amazing and they rock please do more
Awesome stuff Eric. Try doing ride alongs in Canada!
That would be fun. From videos I've seen, Canadian Firefighting looks pretty similar to the U.S. but it would be great to see in person.
Music and editing is great! Love your videos Eric!
Thanks for watching!
@@WorkingFirePIO Awesome Video. What is the name of the song you close with? I feel like it fit so well.
Best video yet!
That truck runs! Great video
nice video
Hey Eric I’d love to come see ride along with our local fire departments. Specifically San Marcos FD here in TX
I live in Denver Colorado ❤❤❤😊😊😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💕❤️
hello can we get them a proper building please
"B Shift is superstitious but I don't believe in that"
"Oh, we'll be going to that, B shift is right" 😂
Can't not be at least a little superstitious in this line of work. 😉
Hey @Eric Hurst i like the videos you do have you ever thought of doing one at Denver international airport that responds to medical, fire and in flight emergencies, etc I know many airports like Denver is different then miami, chicago, etc because its outside of Denver in the flats
Would it ever be possible to get some patches and a T-shirt? I can pay for shipping
Love the videos, but I gotta say, the South a metro team is really well taken care of. They put the professionalism in firefighting. Not bashing Denver or KC. Just not as impressed with them like I am with SMFD
Do they run 4 man Ladders at a minimum daily like Denver?
@@DistrictFire I’m impressed by the way they’re taken care of, Top of the line equipment, beautiful fire houses. I never said anything about the quality of firefighting. Or how they operate. Denver is a phenomenal fire department.
Would love too see if any Australian departments will let you do a ride along
That would be incredible!
You need to come ride down in south florida.
You should come see our COMM Bldg as well!
No way that man just put jelly on a damn pizza
Come to Cambridge, MA Engine 2 (4k calls year) or Truck 3 (3k calls/year)
When I was kid I grew up watching a fire station tour video at a Cambridge firehouse and I've honestly wanted to visit ever since then!
awesome video per the normal. you should do one on Poudre Fire Authority or maybe Cheyenne Fire Rescue
What’s the difference between a homeless person and a person experiencing homeless?
@@guyintenn so instead of criminal it could be person experiencing committing crimes? Victims could be called person experiencing theft?
Doesn’t feel right. Gotta be more to it…..
Semantics.
Journalistically there's preference leaning toward saying a person experiencing homeless. Labeling someone as homeless can be dehumanizing and places them into a stereotypical category despite their unique circumstances. People experiencing homelessness could be facing financial hardship especially with the lack of affordable housing, having a mental health crisis or chronic illness, escaping abuse or unsafe home environments, struggling with substance addiction etc. It's also important to note although the statistics vary, many military veterans are experiencing homelessness... and we met one during this ride along.
@@WorkingFirePIO It’s interesting that given all the outreach increased funding and soft language the only thing improving is the lives of those who make money running the programs. There is something far more dehumanizing going on than wrong speak. 10 years ago there were less homeless than there are “people experiencing homelessness” today but I’m sure they appreciate the new title.
Inner city/urban company action is really different. I don’t to take away from the service that’s performed in the burbs but it is different.
Absolutely. Inner city / urban, suburban and rural firefighting are all so unique.
You should come to check out east ride with them
Do you know how many Fire Stations logos does the Denver Fire Department has because South Metro Fire Rescue has 28 logos
Can we see Arvada fire maybe next?
Hi Sir hope you are well
Wait so Denver allow JR firefighter to do shifts?
It's the secret Denver Fire Department
you should comem to wisconsin or nyc
Can you please ride Along with Station 84 in Hinsdale Illinois?
Great stuff. In the first first part of the video Truck 4 never hit the button for his front /top light bar
Nowt as plush as Chicago Fire
Hi Eric! Nice to meet you again on your personal channel. I'm sure, it will jumpstart! I would like to do the same kind of docus in Germany.
What camera and mic are you currently using for your videos? Best from Germany, Ulrich
is no one going to talk about him putting jelly on pizza?
Any one notice the bright blue light on 20:40 in the vid
who provides medic coverage???private?
Being neighbors with Denver Fire would you say you learned something from this?
Absolutely. I view every ride along as a learning opportunity both personally and professionally. I rarely visit Downtown Denver so from a personal perspective, it was surprising how much the socioeconomic landscape has changed. A homeless camp sweep near 22nd and Stout is local headline news, it's a place I saw and captured on video just a week ago. Professionally, it was great to get hours of insight into DFD's current response plans and better understand how they're addressing the high EMS call volume.
No one uses bourkes anymore?
Hey Eric thanks how about coming to Louisiana.
What fire departments would be good to ride with there?
Beautiful B roll footage Eric!! Loving these videos more and more.
@maruiacancerclmfaooo stop 😂😂😂
With that new office building, will the station and central admin get drawings and be able to train before being occupied? Also, why does a station not house say engine for Ex. engine 4 and ladder 4?
The map showed two other stations really close by, one of them has an engine it sounds like from the video. But makes me wonder if the truck is a quint.
Denver runs single and dual company houses. There are 8 Engines surrounding Truck 4 that respond in tandem when needed. As you saw in the video, the engine beat them on some calls quite a few times. There are atleast 4 other Truck/Tower Companies surrounding Truck 4 as well as a heavy rescue or 2. Much like larger cities, they have various apparatus in various places such as a Truck House, Dual Company House, Engine House, Rescue House, ETC.
Camping in downtown Denver is great this time of year.
