Okay so Geto, a human, at some point started working with each of those curses, all of them which are "special grade" basically meaning really powerful (That red octopus looking thing that was floating in the water at 14:30 is also part of their little group). The stronger the curse the more sentient they become. Also, Gojo is among the 4 special grade (most powerful) sorcerers and he alone is widely renowned as the strongest of the current age. Domain expansion like you guys said is a technique but it can only be unlocked once you reach a certain level. So only the strong can pull it off. Every being that utilizes cursed energy has what you call an "innate domain" which is literally their domain expansion before it is brought forward into reality with cursed energy, and Innate domains/domain expansions always closely relate to specific cursed techniques that an individual has. In domains you lay out ur cursed energy to carve out your on space. Ur curse technique is guaranteed to hit. So usually traping someone inside it's usually a automatic win unless they have their own domain that's strong enough to at least cancel out the sure hit effect. U get ur domain usually by level of cursed energy understanding and understanding of ur own technique. It's not necessarily a raw power thing there are strong characters who never unlocked a domain.
