This is what we don’t get enough of.! We see how people hack trees but we don’t see the end result in six or 12 months. Something that you really need to see ! 🤓
I will update what I did. Please stayed tuned.
This example confirms that vision and patience are the most important when creating bonsai. Sometimes I just want to skip 🤭patience...
Yes...continuous improvement as in manufacturing.
It is always nice to see how a tree is coming along after receiving a big cut thank you Milton
please stay tuned.
Thank you… I enjoy seeing your old video as well as your new one. I am looking forward to seeing this bonsai in 6 months from now
Yes,..please stay tuned. Eventually update can become informative series.
Little gem of maple seedling... thought it was a goner but then you picked it up...whew!!! Thanks for the videos Milton, you've reignited my passion with new perspectives... wish we were neighbors.
My pleasure! Have fun with your bonsai!
Excellent video!
Thanks!@
I did not expect that! So interesting in growth.
Elm grows rapidly
Great tutorial. I like the way you explain your methods. I have my cup of tea and watching this tutorial.
Sound very relaxing!
@@bonsaiheirloom Have you seen the phenomenon this year with some of the maples? In my neighborhood the pods are falling all natural except one. About 2 stories tall. Nice green leaves. But. The seed pods are pink this year. I did some research and people are asking also why. Scientists think it has something to do with the combination of the weather and climate change. These are the single pod seeds or Samaras and not the double. I planted 4 to see if there is any effect on the seedling.
Very cool project
Thanks!
Really enjoyed this video, thanks
Great!
I love your videos! They're so informative. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and your thoughts? Process when you're deciding what to cut and what not to. 💚
Thnks!
Thank you! I'm currently waiting for my maple to grow out a bit more before I start cutting my maple down. I gotta' say it's quite exciting!
good to let the growth harden...to fatten the tree. Not more fr3equently than every two or three month....hard to bve disciplined.
Un grand merci pour le partage de votre expérience!
Merci!
great demo milton thank you for sharing. waiting on the nicer weather to move my only chinese elm outdoors. its still getting cold in the north east where i am
Any time before the leaves emerge.
awesome video!
Great video, that first video inspired me to keep some of the wild Siberian elm on the property for bonsai.
They must have grown a lot. They have nice rough bark.
Thanks is good sharing👍
Glad you like it.
I’m loyal with both my UA-cam accounts lol. I look forward to buying some field grown material from you!
We will announce bonsai for sale around September for delivery before Thanksgiving. Please sign up for announcement at BH website
@@MiltonChang-ee6rq my husband and I are signed up and excited for your announcements to come! Really appreciate everything you do for our community.
Excellent video as always. You are my absolute favorite bonsai artist on UA-cam!
Thanks!
I second!! Thank you Milton!!
Good video. A little too much patience for me. This is the reason I spend time finding trees are already past this point. But never the less I still have trees and bushes in every state of growth.
That is the reason I like to start with stumps...adds age to the bonsai.
You’ve certainly come a long way Milton. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks Rodney!
Chinese Elm is really a beautiful bonsai
In part because leaves reduce in size as it fills out.
@@MiltonChang-ee6rq Have u heard of China Girl tree? this has pink berries it's a beautiful tree but too flowery for bonsai
Could you do a demonstration on how you style a Mame bonsai?
Great video as always btw :)
I have a video on severeal mame Bonsai. Please searc bacj a few weeks.
Thanks!
I'm amazed how quickly your seedlings pack on trunk girth. There must be a climate advantage where you're located. The only seedlings that i can get that growth in are Sycamore. But they're not great as bonsai.
Longer growing season does brfing an advantage. Try elm to start.
Hi, I love the videos! Could you talk a little about the fertilizers you use on the different kinds of trees? Thank you!
Easies is to use liquid fish and kelp emulsioin...follow instruction. Slow release fertilizer and chicken manure pellets are all good.
Usually any fertilizer will work, miracle gro even, or the best is organic fertz made with rabbit or chicken shit.. no serious. There is also bonsai fertilizers available, tony from Tony's bonsai did a great video explaining. R.i.p
Hey so here is a question maybe you can answer on your q & a next time.. I know this is your recommended soil mix, and I think it's fine for growing trees in nursery pots or whatever. I personally would never use this mix in an actual bonsai pot and I know that you do. You are the only person I have ever heard using this as a bonsai mix. Every professional I have ever taken a workshop from has recommended the standard 1:1:1 ratio of akadama, pumice, and lava rock. Even more experienced hobbyists in my club would at least use a mix of turface, pine bark, peat and perlite. This makes the soil a good free draining soil that encourages root growth. Anytime I have seen things grown in the average sandy loam potting soil over time ends up causing root rot and sick trees susceptible to fungal infections and things of that nature. I have a few older club members who were taught by Warren Hill the founder of our club and former curator of the National Arboretum in DC and former student of your teacher John Naka, and they would 100% steer me away from a mix like yours. They don't favor the use of turface like some other club members but for trees in shallow pots imported japanese soils would be their recommendation. Soil is always a dicey topic at meetings because each member uses what they know to work best for them. I am not trying to be insulting here but your soil mix is right on par with what is used at garden centers and commercial landscape nurseries, I have never seen it used by serious bonsai practicioners other that yourself.
Your comments challenged me o come up with new awareness. I wil discussion an upciomning Q&A. Please say tunned.
Please check outJohn Naka's book...he never suggest the use of Akadama..His suggestio has an influence on the mix I recommend.
🥰🥰
Thanks!
Will be interested to see how a side sprout (where the old apex is chopped) is groomed to become the new apex. Do you think an element of disguise is needed or is it possible that the new apex will eventually appear as if it were the original apex?
Find a top growth near the top of the bonsai. If it is a little off to the side, you can alway report by tiling the tree a bit.
Don't stree out...the top will eventually grow for you to make the apex appear natural.
The point is to have fun...you can do NO wrong!
I would be interested in ordering Chinese elm and juniper starter bonsai if it can ship to Canada
Sorry...we will only ship to 48 contiguous states...Maybe in the future as we work the pernittibng
👋👍👏
Thanks!
Mr.Chang do you believe there is some trees (species) that just can't be bonsais?
I ;ean towards tradition material because they have proven to be long-lived and become more beautiful wit time. I try to be creative in other endeavors.
I am surprised you are not using proper tools for thick branches. It is more squishing and turning than cutting.
Improvising! 🙂
@@MiltonChang-ee6rq I was always told unclean cuts could be a risk for fungi, insects or bacteria to cause harm. In older trees I also tend to treat open cuttings with a paste. But I did not want to criticize you, because obviously your plants are doing very well the way you are working :-) I am enjoying your videos a lot
