Hunting Pheasants with Goshawks along side the Pointer. Male and Female Goshawks Hunting in the Snow

- Today we were out on a great bit of permission and today we were mainly focusing on the Goshawks and getting them a catch. After around 4 or 5 inches of snow was left lying overnight it all added to the scenery and atmosphere. Unfortunetly we were unable to catch anything but it did not ruin the day as we were able to witness somewhat of a dream!

Falconers tend to bring up their birds weight, when the cold weather arrives, making it a little harder to dial in their perfect flying weight.

Yeah thats the problem we normally find around this time of year. We cant risk having them to low incase of a health risk and then if they are to high then they are not as interested. I would much rather keep all our birds fit and healthy than run any risks like that anyhow but yeah their weights go up and down like its no ones business as im sure you know from your own experience, Just got to use what is on your side like a weather forecast and a bit of knowledge when feeding them and then hope a bit of luck lands. I appreciate the constant support towards the channel 👍😌

When hunting with Goshawks there is not as much action as you would expect. I am just showing the reality of it and how it really goes but your comment is appreciated 👍
This wasn’t a good advert for falconry. Gos never caught because pheasant was strong. Next bird too heavy no interest. Dog tired after 2 hours. Mate I have 3 pointers for shooting & they can do a full day on the hills running non stop. Even unfit they wouldn’t struggle doing 2 hours. Nice ground, full of birds but poor effort.
And thats the reality of it. Tinkering and getting your birds weight right on the spot when hunting pheasants is a tricky thing as I’m guessing you gather? Unfortunately not everything can be sunshine and rainbows when out with the hawks and everything cant go our way but it’s not about the constant killing, it’s about having a good day out and enjoying yourself. Im glad to hear that your pointers are doing well, thanks for sharing. The ground we have is great so hopefully we can find the sweet spot on our new Goshawks weight and get him going on pheasant soon enough. 👍
Im not for sugar-coating everything, Id rather show the reality and what a days hunting can sometimes to like
All the birds flew, they recovered a bird from dense woods, the dog gained experience, none of their birds got lost or injured and they got a slip on a pheasant. The guy making the video said he had had a great day just being out with his birds, friends and dog. But according to you it "wasn't a good advert for falconry." Hahahahahaha. Aye mate, whatever.
Everybody got out and got some exercise in beautiful country. When you're hunting, or fishing for that matter, it doesn't always go as planned but the point is you're out doing it. Ask that dog if he'd rather be holed up in the house or chasing birds!
