    My EDC starts with the 5.11 Tactical pant with two knife/cellphone pockets... The weak side knife pocket carries the Fenix PD35 LED flashlight with a lanyard (or any flashlight that uses two CR123 batteries). The other pocket carries the SOG Trident in Black TiNi with the seatbelt cutter that does not need to be open to be useful ! And the seatbelt cutter is great for cutting twine on bales of hay. Thank you for the video ! tjl

    Since can't own a gun yet. My primary mode of defense is a high intensity and high output tactical flashlight. My primary is a Defender Built Solarforce L2M in short tube with single mode 400 lumens high candela drop in that can throw roughly 250m.

    Good stuff. I realize that my light turns on initially as a strobe, which I like, but stays on until you hold the button for 3 seconds. In the scenario described above, that would not be the best. So now maybe I need a light that initializes with a strobe but only stays on for as long as I hold the button.

      Olight m2r warrior. 1500 lumens on the enhanced tactical mode, half press for momentary on of 1500 or full press for 1500 strobe for as long as your holding the button.

    And a light at least 1000 lumens can blind even at day time.

    This is exactly part of the reason I started to invest on some top quality torches (flashlights). Here in England this is the only real option for us to carry day to day. If anyone else could suggest some exceptionally good defensive flashlights it would be much appreciated. At the moment I have the Fenix PD22 (little too small) and the Fenix PD35 (little to large).It needs a high max output and it needs different light outputs for everyday applications. Striking bezel is a must in my eyes...Any suggestions?

    wouldn't a hi speed strobe be more disorienting?

    • @Porzelinchen92
      @Porzelinchen92 8 років тому

      i think at a certain amount of lumens strobe is just a nice addition. 500 or 600 lumens of constant light will blind better than this strobe mode in my opinion. my flashlight has 960 lumens and at this number the strobe irritates myself which is counterproductive :D

    • @knighthawk3759
      @knighthawk3759 8 років тому +2

      Porzelinchen92 while what you say is true a strobe can also be debilitating to motor function it has something to do with short circuiting the connection between the optic nerve and the motor cortex of the brain. it's somewhat similar to the reaction that epileptic receives when exposed to a strobe light not so much a seizure mind you just a temporary freezing of the body has the brain attempts to adjust to the new stimulus but to each their own

    • @Porzelinchen92
      @Porzelinchen92 8 років тому

      thank you for that information! i will keep it in mind :)
      however i still prefer not to use strobe, but i guess that is a personal preference :)

      Jesse Rudolph That's not true. I have one that's 350 lumens and it's more than enough sufficient for self defense. I have another that's 250 lumens and it's also enough. But the lowest one that I have is about the size of a Bic lighter and yet it puts out 150 lumens. Trust me when I tell you that's even bright enough to cause disorientation to someone's vision. Obviously it would be a last resort option(BECAUSE ONE WOULD WANT IT BRIGHTER) but if you're faced in that situation you'd rather have it available than not. It's all how you use it

      I would say 200 lumens will blind somebody pretty well. Some lights that take different kinds of batteries will actually give more lumens out of the same light with different batteries, like a Streamlight Protac 1L1AA.

    Living in a country where there are few firearm related offences (and few firearms) - Australia - this is a really good useful idea. Flash-lights are very useful anyway, but this gives me an added idea of how to use it "in the event". I'm going to promote this idea to my family as well.
    It's far less paranoid than the "I need a gun" thinking (which we don't need) and has a higher level of utility as well.
    Great practical video. It's a great example of a 'life hack' where something which is quite ordinary can be turned to a very different use. The intro video was an excellent example of a real life possibility.
    Thanks :)

      +4ebees Didn't even know this was a real thing but I have been developing self defense techniques with a flashlight for a few years now. Your best bet in Australia would be the Ledlenser p7.2. I love mine. It blasts 320 lumens and has variable focus which means that when you need to direct all that energy into an attackers face, you know you're gonna get your point across. Ledlenser is a popular brand out here and is what most adventure stores stock.

    still drawbacks --- against an armed opponent --- shine a light in their direction --- just gave them a target --- stupid. Other scenarios as shown in the video, make a case for having a tactical flashlight. But I will never use one on home ground. I know my house and furniture placement --- no light on my home defense gun ever.
