I feel like the Ghanaian system has reduced the value of the workforce, and this has given us the mindset of "I need to serve before I can be given a better position to occupy."
I don’t mind buying gari or whatever errands it is because I did that at my former place of internship and even after I get my bosses sending me opportunities and even asking me of my future plans because of how I was at the company. I didn’t mind doing that because I know where I am coming from. I won Miss Knust through them because they were all interested in my future. I am forever grateful to them.🙏
In k dramas I see a lot of such scenarios 😂😂 there is nothing wrong with you going to buy something for your self and someone tells you to buy some for them.
They’re too nice tbh😂 Where I did my internship as well as most the people in my cohort group they never sent us when it came to getting food or anything. If anything when we have our monthly breakfast/ potluck the senior program coordinator would go and buy all those things herself and even arrange them for us to come and eat. When we’re done then she’ll still pack it up herself or we’ll offer to help! They have a keirug or whatever they call it in most offices, for coffee so they hardly send interns out for coffee. If anything the issues about interning especially in the states specifically has to do with the fact that they overburden interns with company work that they’re not even supposed to do. The opposite of that may be that, they pay no mind to interns and give them little to no work because they just see them as interns so it becomes hard to develop skills / they become bored. When it comes to sending dierr, I don’t think they do that in the states, it very rare.
In the states they give tips Ghana doesn't. Even the states weather alone is enough. Sending for coffee and stuffs I'm not sure you'll cross any road oo
There are no rewards for heroes. If you make yourself too reliable, people will just misuse you. Cuz i don't mind being sent but then when i see that you're offering me no value in return that's when i have issues. Went to a company as a worker o, IT guy. I did all my internship and national service in Government sectors. One thing I can say is… make yourself valuable and people won't send you anyhow. Just be valuable
Some people are spoiled. In the states, sometimes, as a young intern, they send u to go buy food, coffee nd donuts. U just shut up nd do it till a door opens up for u. Its part of the game
I think serving is not a problem but u have to serve the right person. One who is able to use power and not power using him/her. Thats the most toxic in serving.
During my internship we had people who the staffs send (cleaners and security) but they use to send me on the regular because I never complained about it, I learnt everything at my company within the first 2 weeks because the lady who was training me was very serious when it comes to work but she’s really friendly and my favorite person. Im not from a bad home, my uncle was the HR but no one knew but they were all friendly and good, sometimes some staffs offer their cars but I tell them no and I walk. With all this I had fun and learnt a lot the lady who trained me told me she will recommend me for national service (she didn’t know I had someone at the top) I smiled and thanked her. So with what I’m saying sometimes some staffs will take advantage of you but always be respectful and hardworking and do what you’ve been assigned to, imagine if I had no one there it will be easier to do my national service there. Even when I finished my internship I go Ghs1,000 as gift from the staffs that was in 2015 (spent it all on food😂)
She needs a bit of humility IMO. I am not from Ghana but spend enough time there to know that these people she is refusing so profusely, will very likely one day be the same people she will run into at various stages of her career and may need as a resource. Those types of menial tasks should not be expected of interns all the time, but are unfortunately par for the course anywhere... here in the States as well. Watch the movie, "The Devil Wears Prada" for a crash course.
Ghana need to accept yes and no thats our problem, my Boss in US 1 day called me to his office and actually told me its ok to say no sometimes. Cos i was always accepting everything he asked me to do at the job . Wen i started turning down some stuffs , its crazy ,i actually got promoted to management. But ghana as soon as u say no or stand up for ur self they will start planning to get rid of u ..smh😢

Level 200 student, what work do you know that you are coming to work for free? what work are you coming to do in the first place? I was an employee and still was running errands for my bosses. As I speak I am a department head but those ahead of me still send me. As an intern, you are there to learn. You need to serve people for them to share their knowledge with you.
I don't know which program of study you are relating to but I did internships since lvl 100 as a Quantity surveying student. I still was able to do arithmetic checks on payment invoices. That didn't require a lot of technical knowledge but at least they could make use of my numeracy skills. Fortunately, there was an NSS guy who was assigned to take us through the basics and my boss was ever willing to check your work and provide feedback. I went back there every year till I finished school! Fast forward to NSS, I was managing costs on construction projects with little to no supervision but I still did lunch errands which I had no qualms about because my bosses were good to me. During my internship as a nurse, if you were going to get a particular food and other senior staff or even colleagues wanted some, it made sense to get it for them too because of staff strength so that there were always more staff on the wards than not. However, I had very excellent nurse in charges who did not allow doctors and any other non nursing staff to send us. So it wasn't like we were delegated to run errands. In fact even the nursing staff couldn't send us outside of the hospital or even very far away from the wards except if someone was driving. I get her but like was said in the video just choose your battles. Know who, when and where if you must run an errand.
Serving the people ahead of you is called working smart, all the people at the top once served people & are still serving people one way or the other, service to humanity at any level actually opens doors & makes the journey to the top smoother, there's no human that will not serve. There is a lot of balanced sense in what Kwadwo Sheldon is talking about. There is truly a balance. My internship days, I used to buy gob3 for my Medical officer. I wasn't doing for everyone and I used to get sent a lot by a lot of house officers. Fast forward, I've become good friends with most of them. The medical officer helped my brother access her husband who is a lecturer. I always get pro-bono consultation services and a cut in the line. She always invited me to follow her to medical conferences and programs she went to. Programs I would on any ordinary day know they existed. Along with the other medical officers I helped. For me buying for them was intentional for me. It sucked sometimes but as long as they didn't disrespect me or look down on me, and they just wanted me to buy for them, that is how I would network and be remembered for. Mandane, but it worked. LOL. At the end of the day, do what works for you shaaaa.

In Ghanaian culture, it is sometimes expected that you say "Yes, sir" or "Master" and show excessive deference to gain favor or opportunities. This can be quite demeaning. It's one of the reasons why some people in positions of power, whether at work or as bosses and lecturers, behave as if they hold absolute authority over others like gods. This is why our country is where we are. In Kwadwo Sheldon's Bristish voice, "You can't do this in the UK or a civilized country."
This is fact bro. I intern at Thinktech Digital in Kasoa. I wasn't bullied around like that but I was willing to serve. Though there were other means of service I did, i earn a fair amount of money that covered my transport fare and more every month. And to top it all , my immediate Boss fought for me to stay and work even before I was ready to go back to school. And i still work there so chale. SERVICE OOO
Sheldon ebi scam. My girl has done it saa it didn't help her. As an intern and also services personnel and in the long run, it didn't make her work at the place. They choose some other people that they didn't even interview kuraa. She served her madam saaa through out
One of my sister's friend did her internship in another region very well. When she was done, the boss over there recommended her to their Accra branch since she stays in Accra. She didn't even have to go around looking for job after internship. The waakye buyers dierr another story 😅but do what you gotta do right
I currently have three people as interns at my department and so far I haven't sent any but my colleagues are sending them to buy their food almost all the time. I don't really understand why people really feel comfortable sending people to always buy food for them. It's stupid to me.
I don't understand the noise here. I have about 4 interns, i send them sometimes to get coffee and lunch for the team including myself if I am too busy. The problem is if it's just a consistent request every day and every minute then I agree with her. The other problem is if the interns are not learning anything and just being a servant, then it is not an ideal environment. There is more to this story than what KS perceived it to be, perhaps she has not given a full context of what really happened to her so that we can properly judge the situation. But Ghanian leadership and the abusive behaviors of its staff will not surprise me at all. Especially those who do not have boundaries from what is healthy tasks and duties at the job vs exploitation and abuse just because "i be oga".
These days internship koraa unless connection. I remember my first internship the compulsory one you do whilst you are in school I had to go round with a letter as if I was looking for a paid job. They just take the letter and you don't hear from them. For the waakye part de3 masa it's inevitable even that one that's when through some connections you have been accepted to do your internship in the company. Unless your mum or dad owns the company forget you go buy waakye. You are not lucky koraa you won't learn anything valuable.
Sometimes, during my internship at a tech startup, I found myself in a situation where I ended up assisting the company more than I expected. They had limited knowledge about coding or programming, yet they assigned tasks like "build a company website in 10 days." The most surprising part was that I was initially expected to code everything from scratch, but I had to educate them about the process. Even after I completed the website, they wanted it to go live without investing any money, so I had to send them the zipped files. I recently learned that the company has ceased operations due to a lack of available human resources, as they were not compensating their staff.
how come and tech company doesn't know shit about programming? who is the founder of the company and on what basis did he start the business if he doesn't have the knowledge and not ready to recruit people with the required skills?
@@kelvinadu3885 That's a great question, but I couldn't find an answer myself. While I'd like to mention his name, I'm hesitant as it might lead to unexpected complications. In short, he seems to have the ambition to own a tech company and employ others, but the details remain unclear.
These Gen-Z people think so highly of themselves.... u are thr to serve and they watching u. Remember u need their help to get experience, and they can help u with connections and recommendations.
@kingsleykekeli1587 so if someone comes to wrk in ur company and is disobedient, disrespectful and don't obey instructions will u still employ him/her? Before u judge put urslf in people's shoes before u judge. Humility takes u far not arrogance.
A young man came to do national service at my workplace. My colleagues do send him sometimes. He got employed, he still does errands for them. Funnily he works directly under me and I actually don't send him. Some of our workers are just lazy and make sending a habit. I will only send you when I am very pressed. Me sef I hardly eat launch at the office. In any case, you might be lucky to get a blessing from serving. As a beginner, you got to serve to earn, simple. Your pompous attitude will absolutely get you nowhere. Raise your shoulders and be kicked off the slate 😂

Chairman at some point I agree with the shodii. My sis ein frnd be nurse .she go do internship for a certain hospital in C/R wey she come talk sey as she go there she no learn anything bia useful. Every day pple there go send her to buy food for them.
Forget rich background saf, i was sent multiple times, picked up my bosses kids, dropped them off, picked up her husband picked up food for her, took her dresses to the seamstress etc. Point is Good name is better than riches, when you finish they have nothing bad to say about you. You can lose your "good name" by holding yourself too high in such situations.
My lecturer at the university was stressing me for my computer science project. One day he told me to buy him one voltic bottle water and groundnut i bought it with my own money and he made me complete my project. Sometimes they do this to test your patience and how you are.
I understand where she’s coming from yet her internship point sounds like an issue of feeling entitled. Other than that junior employees or employees in general are not in the company to be errand girls or boys. I think it also depends on the relationship you have with you boss or senior colleagues. My boss here in the US and senior colleagues use to sometimes offer to get me lunch even for free and vice versa. I never felt like i was used. They taught me a lot and within 90days I was working like I’ve been there for 3 plus years.
I did my internship in the hospital at New York, at the Bosses and staff sent you for reasons, I did not even finish my internship and they hired me before I did my state board exams. Also you need references from them for next job. I don’t know what wrong with the youth nowadays
If you know the home u are coming from and where u want to get to in life, u won’t be complaining the company sending you to buy Waakye or Gob3. Chaaaale this generation for humble demsef o
Only in Ghana wey somebody go fi defend this nonsense. Adɛn oo go buy waakye for me. Sia!! Abe ur jnr bro? The jhs and shs I'm your senior you're my jnr mentality norr. Gyimii 😂😂
If the company sacks you for standing up for yourself, it’s the company’s loss. It is abuse of power to constantly send interns on non-work-related-errands, at that point it is a HR issue
Leadership skills to start and a desire learn all she can to better the industry. So missing out on vital lessons due to being sent on non-intern-related errands would hinder the purpose of the internship
I feel like the Ghanaian system has reduced the value of the workforce, and this has given us the mindset of "I need to serve before I can be given a better position to occupy."

SERVICE OOO
Sheldon wait o, who's Kwabota ???😂😂😂
I just keep coming back to watch this video, I can boldly say that you will not regret serving.
She’s 1000000% right. I am with her
Yooooi😅, abi the HR wey take you come go train you 😂
Says the dbee lol😂
@@slimfbiggyansah4295Ahahahaaaaa 😂😂😂
You have to be humble you need to show respect to them because they can even help you get a permanent position stay humble and you will go far
Gen Zs do things without thinking ooo...now that u recordes this on tiktok now u will bring your CV to which company to now employ you
Sheldon you spoke like a true interpreneur! You are very correct!
Thank you KS serve and get what you want. This generation don't like serving ohh. Serve and get the best from the people around and for yourself
If the sending is plenty and the learning is plenty, I will go.
😂😂😂😂
Sheldon ebi scam. My girl has done it saa it didn't help her. As an intern and also services personnel and in the long run, it didn't make her work at the place. They choose some other people that they didn't even interview kuraa. She served her madam saaa through out
Scanty “you go turn glovo for the company”😂😂😭😭
When doing your internship or service... how you present yourself will determine how they treat you.
First impression always matters
One of my sister's friend did her internship in another region very well. When she was done, the boss over there recommended her to their Accra branch since she stays in Accra. She didn't even have to go around looking for job after internship. The waakye buyers dierr another story 😅but do what you gotta do right
I currently have three people as interns at my department and so far I haven't sent any but my colleagues are sending them to buy their food almost all the time. I don't really understand why people really feel comfortable sending people to always buy food for them. It's stupid to me.
Interesting in the Ghanaian setting dier to get to the top pannn
U must humble yourself kraaa
Life in Ghana no easy chale
I don't understand the noise here. I have about 4 interns, i send them sometimes to get coffee and lunch for the team including myself if I am too busy. The problem is if it's just a consistent request every day and every minute then I agree with her. The other problem is if the interns are not learning anything and just being a servant, then it is not an ideal environment. There is more to this story than what KS perceived it to be, perhaps she has not given a full context of what really happened to her so that we can properly judge the situation. But Ghanian leadership and the abusive behaviors of its staff will not surprise me at all. Especially those who do not have boundaries from what is healthy tasks and duties at the job vs exploitation and abuse just because "i be oga".
well said.
Very well said
These days internship koraa unless connection.
Wow...God bless you, bro.
I would like you to guide me in learning how to code bro.🙏
@@Tmccccc would love to, but I'm currently busy with NSS atm oo man
@@kuizson Oops, but are there any recommendations? I’ve been learning via the free Code Camp Academy but chale, but I always give up along the line.
how come and tech company doesn't know shit about programming? who is the founder of the company and on what basis did he start the business if he doesn't have the knowledge and not ready to recruit people with the required skills?
@@kelvinadu3885 That's a great question, but I couldn't find an answer myself. While I'd like to mention his name, I'm hesitant as it might lead to unexpected complications. In short, he seems to have the ambition to own a tech company and employ others, but the details remain unclear.
The number of times doesn't matter Sheldon. We go to work to do our job description. Ibi only in Ghana that this can happen
Vim
KS sounds like he has suffered as a intern therefore those that follow behind must as well
Choose your own path and stay on it 🤝
I see what mean🫡
Yes exactly 💯
Follow every advice on the internet at your own peril😂😂😂
Sheldon and scanty are the best combo
Humble yourself in the eye man n God
Scanty said if dem send you and your service be perfect...😂😂😂
10:54 Herh Sheldon be the coolest boss I’ve ever seen chale.. He den Scanty dey move like dem no geh levels & I love that 💯🎊
Nothing wrong buying food for your supervisors or people ahead of you. One day it will pave the way for you
That Vincent Kompany bar😂 is dope
At least, once a while is Ok, but not every day

The last part really got me😂😂😂
Much much love Kwadwo Sheldon ❤❤❤ Owienfo ba ber gyen ni ho.
When you two have a back and forth like this I love it ..❤❤
Choose your battles…the way up is down
These Gen-Z people think so highly of themselves.... u are thr to serve and they watching u. Remember u need their help to get experience, and they can help u with connections and recommendations.
masa u are lazy this African mentality must change
Raise your shoulders and be kicked off the slate 😂
if your protocol or links check like tea spoon aa, mmh go buy give 'em 🤣
I did internship and after the 3mths period I was made the interim head of IT when their IT officer was transferred. I learnt a lot and was getting contract whiles schools.
Sometimes errr you'll just have to humble yourself to get there its not always about being pompous and I mean,if she wont go fineee🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️other will go,I know some people can send tooooo Much but 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Kwadwo Sheldon is getting the whole narrate wrong but I can understand, this matter of serve before you gain only works in Ghana and Africa.
The girl no know what she dey talk....
Like black sheriff said in his song ""yes sir master no dey spoil job""
all i heard is that Vicent Kompany’s bar🔥
Before you can lead, you must first learn to serve.
There's no more Master/ Servant as it was when in Gold Coast, not now a day's Ghana.
Work or job is not for services on the work place.
The Kompany bar though 🤗
the sending is there, some will even dash you money after.....😂😂😂.this world is about giving and receiving and its also basic to serve in order to get to the top......but sometimes you for use your head
Sheldon is right when you are underground you've to serve
Chairman at some point I agree with the shodii. My sis ein frnd be nurse .she go do internship for a certain hospital in C/R wey she come talk sey as she go there she no learn anything bia useful. Every day pple there go send her to buy food for them.
My whole internship I was never sent. It’s only nice to go on errands for your in charges in the pharmacy I worked as an intern.
I go for coffee runs all the time and it’s equal to waakye here in my eyes 👀
Forget rich background saf, i was sent multiple times, picked up my bosses kids, dropped them off, picked up her husband picked up food for her, took her dresses to the seamstress etc. Point is Good name is better than riches, when you finish they have nothing bad to say about you. You can lose your "good name" by holding yourself too high in such situations.
It’s very true
Mark 10: 45 _ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.
yes sir master no dey spoil work
If a new employee asked to do services unrelated to the job; never should involve with that kind of service.
My lecturer at the university was stressing me for my computer science project. One day he told me to buy him one voltic bottle water and groundnut i bought it with my own money and he made me complete my project. Sometimes they do this to test your patience and how you are.
Scanty is hella fuuny 😂😂😂😂
I understand where she’s coming from yet her internship point sounds like an issue of feeling entitled. Other than that junior employees or employees in general are not in the company to be errand girls or boys. I think it also depends on the relationship you have with you boss or senior colleagues. My boss here in the US and senior colleagues use to sometimes offer to get me lunch even for free and vice versa. I never felt like i was used. They taught me a lot and within 90days I was working like I’ve been there for 3 plus years.
Thisss!
The silent handshake after the "Vincent Kompany " bar though😂😂 4:41
Kwadwo Sheldon is absolutely right, I did my internship in the hospital.
I did my internship in the hospital at New York, at the Bosses and staff sent you for reasons, I did not even finish my internship and they hired me before I did my state board exams. Also you need references from them for next job. I don’t know what wrong with the youth nowadays
Hmmmm this issue err especially if u go to a place where they don't have sense Dem go send you tire😮
If you know the home u are coming from and where u want to get to in life, u won’t be complaining the company sending you to buy Waakye or Gob3. Chaaaale this generation for humble demsef o
If it was BoG she go go arrrrhhh!! and even ask if she wants to be sent.
The internship thing die3 edey everywhere ooo. Make yourself valuable serve respectly.....Charlie life is not a joke ooo . All fingers aren't the same
Only in Ghana wey somebody go fi defend this nonsense. Adɛn oo go buy waakye for me. Sia!! Abe ur jnr bro? The jhs and shs I'm your senior you're my jnr mentality norr. Gyimii 😂😂
Looks like someone is still a baby 😂🤣🤣🤣
@@Ditch_9 😂😂
If you wanna to be the first you should be servant of all
I believe and supported u 💯 Kwadwo
Just know what you want the one sending you to buy the wakye. Our problem is, we don’t want learn skills but read books
If the company sacks you for standing up for yourself, it’s the company’s loss. It is abuse of power to constantly send interns on non-work-related-errands, at that point it is a HR issue
what experience does she have to offer the company in the first place. ?
Leadership skills to start and a desire learn all she can to better the industry. So missing out on vital lessons due to being sent on non-intern-related errands would hinder the purpose of the internship
Adey barb you but facts be say the company no dey loose anything 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@phiiphiswitche dey shock me self 😂😂😂😂 what experience?
