Why is it colder the further away you are from the sun?

      +Taco. Kinda like knew it but didn't fully. everyone knows that the further away you are the colder it is, but never really considered the spread is further further away from the sun.

    Winter in the northern hemisphere occurs when the earth is closest to the sun. Quite odd

      And yet, summer in the souther hemisphere occurs when the earth is closest to the sun and when the earth is furthest away from the sun, winter isn't so severe in the southern hemisphere

    So i have a question: if mars receives 43% of earths energy, that will be hard to plants grow on mars, or does it has low reflection of atmosphere? What would life looked like on mars, if any existed... What about using solar panels on mars.. is it 43% power of earths, how does heat effect them, do they cool down fast? Less, more?

    Why is the outer space cold and not hot?
    Why isn't the sun cold instead of hot ?
    Why is the further away we are from the sun the colder it is, why would it not be further away we are the hotter it is, how is this defined?
    Please help me, I think I am mind fucking myself!

    but google says that the earth is the furthest on july 3 and the earth is hotter and the earth is the closest on january 3 and the coldest
