There is no ‘shortage’ of tech talent in 2024-25. Look at all the tech employees (including H1Bs) who got fired in the last 2 years. They are still looking for jobs. So where is the shortage?

Look up a paper by Eric Winstein titled, "How and Why Government, Universities, and Industry Create Domestic Labor Shortages of Scientists and High-Tech Workers" because it's all a fat lie. They don't WANT to hire American labor - they want cheaper foreign servants.

@terry3944 not much. But even so, Biden made a new loophole for them to stay 6 months longer after being fired. They are now allowed to switch to B1/B2 visitor visa and apply for jobs. This just made the applicant pool bigger and nearly impossible for Americans to get their resumes seen.

As a Chinese , I need to point something out. It’s widely acknowledged that China is catching up to the U.S. in terms of technological advancement, and our manufacturing capabilities have already surpassed those of the U.S. significantly.
Do we rely on Indian engineers in China? No, we don’t. We’ve achieved this progress through the efforts of our own citizens-our engineers and workforce-without the help of Indian or Western talent. The U.S. should recognize that the key to sustaining its competitiveness lies in strengthening STEM education, eliminating distractions like DEI from the education system, and prioritizing investment in its own citizens.

Under H-1B, applicants can file for the H4 status for children and spouses. This is how chain migration starts. Even if there are 85k H-1B, there’s more people being admitted beyond H-1B. Technologies developed under those on H-1B is also negligible. If we want to bring in top-talent, have people start applying under the O1 visa which is a non-immigrant visa but allows people to change employers.

      - People can switch jobs on H1
      - O1 is for extraordinary. High skilled(H1) has a different connotation than extraordinary. Both have different needs and capacity requirements, don’t conflate these.
      - H4 is not chain migration. If h1 loses job and leaves country, the associated h4 will have to do the same. None of the H visas cause migration on its own. They have to apply for GC and wait like everyone else. Without the path to GC not many would’ve come to the US in the first place and you wouldn’t be sitting in an enriched tech space and be able to type this comment

I agree that a mix of different cultures and philosophies create a stronger and more diverse country and economy. However, when banks, communications providers, and other corporations hire outside staffing located in another country, how is that practice making our country better? That customer service department located in India or that collections department located in the Philippines-how is that contributing to the USA? They don't live here nor shop here, they are just benefitting from an American job. Why can't they get special Visas in order to live here? I totally agree with the visa employee system, but not the system where a large corporation hires a foreign staffing group because they can pay them so much less than someone who lives here.

The people most harmed by these visas and this type of immigration are minorities.
Not only is there an uphill climb to obtain education and compete against white peers, but HB-1 further displace minorities when migrants are offered wages they jump for joy at. Ex. Indians physicians earn around $10,000 to $25,000 in their country, but in the U.S. as a new doctor, they can earn $150K and up. Someone in the U.S. with high student loans, (which holds for most birthright minorities) is severely disadvantaged when they have to compete against migrants willing to take a “low” wage while on a visa.

    • @spectaclerock
      @spectaclerock День тому +1

True. But there's a bad way of doing everything, and H-1B visas are a bad way of hosting immigration. If the US ends H-1B visas, the US can still invite as many technology immigrants as the country needs, by issuing permanent resident visas to the workers instead. "H-1B" means "indentured servitude". An unintelligble abbreviation is used because the political people don't want the public to know what they are doing. H-1B immigrants are not given an invitation to stay in the US on a permanent basis. They are admitted for just long enough to depress wages. Then, if they cannot get a better visa, they are required to leave.

Americans at skilled salary ranges demand considerably more than these ranges - unless the competition is Chinese; in that case wages outpace even the highest earning white Americans. This isn’t an issue of labor costs. It’s about the loss of labor and skilled workforce opportunities for tax-paying, birthright citizens.
If these people are so interested in this country, why do they only pursue high paying jobs once they do become citizens? Why not take menial, average American jobs where this an ACTUAL shortage. I.e. farm labor, or military? H1-B is archaic and needs to go along with the barnacles it’s welcomed. Musk included.

Let’s also not forget that approximately 40% of domestic physicians are East Asian or Chinese. They take the slots in medical schools, and when on HB-1, it’s taxpayers, not sponsors, who are required to subsidize their arrival. In India, medical school costs can range from $1000 to $5000 a year whereas total debt for an American often ranges between $100K to $400K. Who has the implicit advantage? It’s heinous.

No. You’re wrong. Reducing the H-1B leech would only boost the domestic economy. Since many American firms are engaged in the dirty business of tax inversion, Trump, within his tax plan will introduce measures which would disincentivize offshoring and labor outsourcing.
If H-1B visas are reduced, the free market would course-correct. Domestic tech corporations especially (like Baby Musk’s) would be forced to offer competitive wages to American workers as the labor supply for specialized jobs would tighten. Short run, while this would likely lead to higher wages in certain sectors, consumer prices would also rise as companies pass on the increased labor costs. However, the revenue from these higher prices would stay within the U.S. and benefit the domestic economy instead of foreign markets.
In the long run, this could strengthen the middle class, reduce reliance on foreign labor, and promote job growth within the U.S. despite possible inflationary pressures.
The net effect would be a more self-sustaining economy with a stronger domestic labor force and better propelled classes of American collegiate graduates.

"America is for Americans," but what does it mean to become American? Is it by being born in America to immigrants, since almost everyone in America has immigrant parents? Fascinating. It seems more like a cult than a country: "I made it, you stay out!" I say this because Indians stand out; everyone knows they are immigrants. Yet, a European on the same visa is never assumed to be an immigrant. Current Americans probably think they look the same and probably came with their parents or forefathers. Yes, Indians can stay in their own country, but so could have all the people who came to America in the past and gave birth to the current Americans who are now hating H1B holders.

X intends to start handling crypto in payment, but it requires approval for each state.
And there are significant barriers to this between U.S. states, so I am sure the reason for pushing this appointment is create Federal regulation to prevent states from controlling this very volatile investment currency. States have always had rights in regards to investments, in order to protect investors and consumers, so this appointment is all about pushing crypto, and maybe making several hundred billion off of it.
