Yep. That’s what they think. But wait, there’s more! Because those same people are convinced that if they repeat their words again and again, those words will become more truthful with every repetition. And: They also seem to believe that by raising their voices, often to the point of maniacally screaming their heads off, the more truthfulness is added to their story. That view is combined with their strongest belief: The volume of their voice is proportionally connected to the inclination to believe what they’re claiming, their conversation partners might have.
I love it because ol firecrotch does the same damn thing. It's insane she gets paid millions to pretend to be a judge, and rarely let's people even get their story out. I would never go on a show like this and not at least be able to defend myself when friends and family will see.
First, valve cover gaskets for V-8's and V-6's are sold in pairs as sets, so it isn't a question of the mechanic buying two of them. Second, common sense should tell anyone that if the gasket on one side goes bad on a used car, both sides should be replaced, since the other side may not be far behind. This is due to the fact that materials break down at the same rate, so both valve cover gaskets were most likely ready to fail within months, or even weeks of each other. Again, it's common sense to change both sides since you're already under the hood, and have everything out of the way. Also, the replacement of valve cover gaskets is a very straight forward job, with the hardest part being the removal of parts in order to get at the covers - and depending on the year, make, and model - only if needed, since in most older vehicles the valve covers are very easy to get to. After that, replacing the gaskets is a very simple procedure for any experienced auto technician.
This case has some rarities! We got the producers censoring the plaintiff cussing, JM and Douglas riffing and mocking the litigants for an extended period of time, her slamming a gavel in order to get some order, etc. Top tier entertainment.
I could tell after 30 seconds that she was a nightmare customer. He probably explained to her that they change both gaskets when doing the repairs, and she declined with the attitude that " they're always trying to rip you off". Any time I've purchased valve cover gaskets for a V8, the two gaskets come as a set. As the defendant said, both gaskets are the same age, so it's only a matter of time before the other side leaks.
And while you're being the fly on the wall, be sure to wear your earplugs. You'll still be able to hear them. It'll just muffle the sound so you won't end up deaf.

Sometimes I think the judge needs to shut up and listen especially when she herself dosnt completely understand things. Too doo both valve cover gaskets it probably takes longer to do two then it dose one so the price would very in labour. A gasket is only like 50 bucks the labour is the thing here. And both sides of a V engine are not the same some engines sit sideways so the bank valve cover is usually a pain too do. It’s not as simple as unbolt it and take it off there’s lots of other crap usually in the way that also has to be unbolted and moved.
Or you are smart enough to know that buying new is a waste of $ and if you do your due diligence on the car and pay cash, you can save a ton of $. I’ve saved a ton of $ by buying cars with 50K miles and driving them another 200K. But I get what (I think) you are saying about this plaintiff-they bought an older Mercedes because they wanted the status and didn’t think about whether it was a good investment or not. A Mercedes is never a good investment.

Do I understand this correctly - she had the right side valve cover gasket replaced for $250.- because she didn't want to pay for the left side as well. We can assume it would have been about double the cost to get both sides done . Gets both the right and left gaskets replaced later for $250.- (even though the right side wasn't leaking) and now wants to get reimbursed because it cost what it would have cost if she did both sides at once anyway? Who's the bad actor here - the defendant who did the repair correctly and only exactly what the plaintiff asked for or the 2nd mechanic that did the work for less money BUT did unnecessary work? By that logic if the 2nd mechanic did only the one side that was actually leaking the repair would have been about $125.- then, right?
