It was 2010 when I first heard about using fasting for better health and weight loss, and I thought the idea was nuts. Fast forward ten years, and I wrote a book detailing the many benefits of fasting. Every beginner comes into this practice with their own thoughts and ideas. Some of them are accurate, and some are not. In this video, we’ll discuss things beginners get wrong when they start intermittent fasting.

    Beginner Mistakes:
    fasting = starvation
    not enough electrolytes
    eat whatever you want
allowing calorie creep - eating fat to take edge off
too much too soon - start with 12 / 12 and then shorten

Love your informative videos. I'm a 66 year old male and have been basically been doing OMAD ( one meal a day) for over a year now and have never felt better. I usually stick to Keto during my eating window so no processed food and mostly home cooked meals. I've lost twenty pounds so I'm at my correct weight for my height. I exercise in the morning when fasting and my eating period is late afternoon. This schedule works best for me. I also purchased the LMNT electrolyte and usually drink while doing cardio. Thanks once again for the helpful videos! Cheers Dave

Growing up Catholic, fasting was six days a week in Lent, two small meals that don't equal one regular meal, and one regular meal. Looking back after watching Dr. Becky's videos, I see now why it was penance; it set me up for blood glucose spikes. I don't really mind going 12/12 or further - particularly on weekends at home. Eating two good sized meals with either low carb or keto isn't really all that hard, and definitely healthier than two higher-carb small meals and a larger higher-carb meal.

you have to try the new LMNT chocolate caramel. Previously the chocolate mint was my favorite. I don't drink coffee but in the colder months I love hot chocolate. I do a scoop of Perfect Keto chocolate collagen powder and two sticks of either the chocolate mint or this morning I had for the first time two sticks of the chocolate caramel along with the chocolate collagen powder in a tall 24 ounce insulated cup with hot water. Very good and satisfying and last several hours.

I fast from 5pm to 11 am every single day, all is well except my legs, toes cramps.
    I take EVERY DAY
1 and 1/2 of keto chow minerals ( during the day with water)
24 drops of fasting drops keto chow in the morning around 6 am with a bit of water
And finally after 11 am started with the LMNT packet mixed with one scoop of perfect keto on 24 oz of water l.
And I still have cramps 😢

Love your very informative videos. I do recall one video when u mention about muscle loss during a fast
This has happened to me. I thought I was doing so well fasting 18 hrs , some days longer , but I wasn’t hungry as the eve before I would have a fatty steak with very little greens. I was happy and was hoping to lose cellulite, but now I can feel and SEE the large amount of muscle that I lost in 5-6 months of keto( more carnivore) life change.
Talk about being discouraged. I wasn’t to be careful with fasting if one has a slow metabolism.
Now I don’t know what to do. I want to be low carb, but I cannot afford to lose any more muscle.
    What are your suggestions? Thanks.

When I started I certainly tried to go too long too fast. "Wow, this 18 hrs is great, lets try 24hrs. The last week of OMAD it nice, so why not 36hrs?" After a month of this backed off and spent several months determining that 18:6ish my sweet spot. People are funny about fasting. They freak out if we skip breakfast, but not eating between dinner at 6pm and breakfast at 8am, that doesn't even register. Like if they don't see you doing it, then it doesn't count.

I have doing keto and 18:6 IF since the beginning of January. I unknowingly jumped right in all the way from the start. The first 3 weeks was good, though I was still learning portion control and right foods. I lost 10 lbs. Yay! Then, for some reason, I started eating 7-10 cups of spring mix with kale during my eating window when I became soooo constipated. I tried backing off the amount of salads I was doing and the constipation (off and on) has continued. I am very frustrated in trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. I have also been keeping track of all macro by using Cronometer (the free version) and it shows that I am getting all of my minerals, potassium, magnesium and sodium so I don't know if I need extra electrolytes? I do take a good Multivitamin and a magnesium supplement. If you use LMNT, how many per day? I am also doing a recumbent elliptical 3x a day for 10 minutes each. Scale has not moved since mid January.

Hope this helps. You have to eat after lifting weights or your muscles won’t grow- which naturally burns fat. Ease up on cardio, if you are doing more than 15 min of cardio- that is what makes me so hungry! I quit all the big cardio with great success
