And that Gilbert is too indifferent to Anne, not to mention his being temperamental and fickle. Gilbert in the book would’ve died in jubilation if Anne made up her mind to befriend with him

I highly doubt that literature was hard to come by during that time. Especially with women and reading. Little Women was written in the late 1868. Anne of Green Gables was first published in 1908. There's a 40 years time span between the when the two books were first published. To my knowledge, Lucy had the most things published not just the series. I believe she was born in 1874 which was almost a decade after Little Women was written. Louisa May died at 56 whereas Lucy died at 68.

Or at least it says so in her journals not the dissatisfied of another author's characters. I've read all of Lucy's stuff that has been published before/ since her death and none of it suggests otherwise.

But the two scenes are VERY alike, nonetheless.

I was thinking the same thing! In this part, I was like am I going to cry again?! And I was so pissed at Anne and the rest of the scenes after that and I thought Morgan Harris is like Friedrich of Little Women so I lost hope. But I'm glad Carrots fell in love scandalously to Gil.
No matter how many remakes are made of Anne if Green Gables there will never be a more perfect one than this one with Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie. I wish he were still alive so they could all come back together to talk about their time making these movies which still touch us 37 years later.
So sad that this actor is gone. What an impact he made on millions of viewers. For women, he was the dream man. For the men, he made us learn how win a woman over.

She realized her dream of being a teacher, falling in love with a rich guy and having her writing dreams come true, only to realize that it was wondrous, but sort of, kind of hollow without the love of her life who was her kindred spirit. That kind of love doesn't happen in real life which makes the story all the more amazing and a treasure. This is why this adaptation of Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea will be the standard by which all subsequent adaptations are judged.. the lighting, the costumes, the acting, the natural beauty.. all breathtaking.
Somehow or other, I made it to middle-age without ever seeing these films. I started watching them just last week with low expectations... and then blubbered like a baby at the Anne and Gilbert scenes like this. What a gem!

Did you watch the 3rd film when Anne and Gilbert were much older? I didn't think it was quite as good as the first two, but the bit where he heard her singing in the army camp after they were separated for so long was pretty sweet!

I think you’re missing the point - at this stage of her growing up she doesn’t yet ‘know’ that she loves him so. I love the way she goes away and actually learns her own heart. It couldn’t happen any other way. She’s too free spirited to be told. And the poignancy of her finally accepting him on this very same bridge a year later just wells me up every time.
She wasn't ready for that yet. As Marilla told her she needed to sweep out those ideas of an ideal man and learn to appreciate what was before her. Her best friend Diana learned it before she did. It took some doing but Anne finally learned that the best things don't always happen as they do in novels.
Oh I think Marilla did that. She pointed out all the actual things that Gilbert did and what he gave up so that Anne could stay close to home until things were stable.
I don't think they could have found a better Anne or Gilbert. Megan and Jonathan's chemistry is perfect, they just draw you in. My heart broke for Gil I this scene. Glad Anne took some time to find herself and what was truly important. It lead her to Gil, who she always belonged with. I wish I had someone who looked at me the way Gil looks at Anne. His love for her was instant.

She was.. She was just choosy in what she played. And then there was the ABYSMAL Anne of Green Gables, the continuing Saga.. that was SO bad even the Montgomery family was up in arms about it. But Megan soldiered on in her career.. she was good in Reign even if it was so historically off the mark.

It's weird how much I can identify with Anne and her relationship with Gilbert. First of all having a boy in your class who you compete with, then becoming friends for 2 years. Then being a girl that wants education and career more than becoming a housewife, even though she falls for the man who purposes to her. Struggles with her own feelings and trying not to hurt the boy nor herself.

It's weird how much I can identify with Anne and her relationship with Gilbert. First of all having a boy in your class who you compete with, then becoming friends for 2 years. Then being a girl that wants education and career more than becoming a housewife, even though she falls for the man who purposes to her. Struggles with her own feelings and trying not to hurt the boy nor herself.
This scene still makes me cry to this day. Thank goodness she gets her head straightened out by the end ( Anne of avonlea). 😂
