  • 4 Part Lesson -- Marcelo applies a Knee-Cut Pass: If your opponent opts for Single Leg Control from Seated Guard (Butterfly, Koala, Shin-to-Shin, et al.), secure a same-side Collar-Grip and drive your opponent flat while crossing your knee towards the mat. Use the grip to help keep yourself in front of your opponent's head-line, and place your knee on the mat as opposed to pressing on their stomach so that you can remain in base. Slice your knee through and look to secure an Underhook for Side Control and the pass. [05:59] If your opponent secures a Lapel Grip through your legs (Pump-handle, Worm, et al.), transition to Knee-on-Belly when your opponent lets go of your leg and tries to go belly down for a Single. [12:11] If your opponent turns over with the lapel faster than you can secure Knee-Mount, perform a High-Leg-Over to disentangle yourself from the grip and avoid the Single. Jump on your opponent quickly for Side Control, North/South, or Front-Headlock after you've swung your leg free. [15:44] Although jumping for the Back is an option, it is harder to secure the position or go for the choke if your opponent is grabbing your gi; this transition works better in nogi.
