The signing of Jeff George in 2000 was honestly the start of it. Synder was never in on Brad Johnson despite the season he just had, and throughout 2000 Snyder was pounding the table for George to start. He fell in love with the arm. George did start a couple games in 2000 when Johnson got hurt. Well after 2000, Johnson was let go and George was handed the keys. George lasted just two games into 2001 before not only losing his starting job, but being outright cut. Johnson went to the Bucs, and won a Superbowl with them in 2002. And the Bruce Smith signing from a production standpoint wasn't that bad. The money he got was just absurd. He played in DC at the ages of 37, 38, 39, and 40. And he had a total of 29.5 sacks during that period. At that age, that's honestly impressive.
Agree on Smith. If the team wasn’t a complete cluster, theoretically you’re paying half for his production and half for his experience/leadership. And as you said, his production wasn’t bad at all. The team was just too chaotic for him to have any true impact, statistical or not.
When eight year old Dan Snyder was the manager of his neighborhood lemonade stand, he made his customers pay an additional 40% convenience fee for each beverage, fired both of his sisters without pay, and sued a friend's mother for $2 million after she described his lemonade as "like drinking watered-down urine."
a little fun fact, when the ravens got bought by Steve Bisciotti, Snyder did everything he could to make it so the Ravens wouldnt have a bigger market, including not getting upgrades for M & T Bank from the old stadium
I grew up in Baltimore. I was 5 years old when the Colts left. Too young to care, but my parents were devastated. Once I was old enough to like the NFL, the Redskins were my hometown team. I was fortunate to root for some great teams like the Doug Williams & Mark Rypien led championships. I was a freshman down in College Park when the Ravens came to town. My family all jumped on the Ravens and I was the lone Skins fan. I lasted 3 more seasons with the Skins until I finally decided to join my family and switch allegiance to my real hometown team. Talk about perfect timing. Snyder bought the team the next year and I missed out on the 20+ years of misery he's given to one of the best fanbases in sports. My 2nd season rooting for the Ravens was the immortal 2000 Super Bowl season led by my man Ray Lewis. So yeah, I made the right choice
I remember hearing that there was a guy who was buying the trademark to a bunch of different team names. Not because he wanted to sell them, but because he really hated Dan Snyder and wanted to make his life harder.
Five, this is my first video of yours. I came in from Clickbait as a Washington fan and I knew you were the right person to make this video. I'm not hoping for a turnaround or anything like that, hope left me a long time ago; I'm just excited for it to be different.
I still say Washington should have become the Red Wolves; the only official dog team in the NFL, and they'd only have to change *one* word in their fight song. But no, Dan Snyder is so incompetent he couldn't even manage that.
What would have happened is that Red Wolves would have been too close to the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and Dan Snyder would have a beef with the owner of the T-Wolves over the new team name.
8:58 minor correction: the NFL also took away the Redskins logo rights from Snyder, meaning that anyone could legally make merchandise or use the logo in anyway they want. Along with a really funny South Park episode, this meant that Snyder would lose millions in merchandise sales if he didn’t change the team name/logo. The NFL has as much of a hand as the advertisers wanting to pull out in why Snyder was forced to change the name (reluctantly).

The ironic thing was, the defensive players they signed in 2000 helped the defense go from one of the worst defenses in the league in 99 to a borderline top 5 defense the next season. The downfall of that team was the offense had a step back with Johnson struggling/Jeff George and the kicking game being an absolute mess and cost them 3 games alone.
The absolute worst thing he ever did as an owner was taking RG3's side in the feud with Mike Shanahan. Leading to Mike and Kyle Shanahan being fired and opting to keep a crippled QB over a HOF coach. Then letting all their understudy's leave shortly thereafter. Sean McVay, Kevin O'Connell, Mike Lafleur and Mike McDaniel were all on that coaching staff with the Shanahan's. Every one of them left and the team decided to keep Jay Gruden as the HC. Fun fact, Mike Shanahan actually wanted to draft Russell Wilson in 2012, not RG3 or Cousins. Imagine a world where the Shanahan's were able to draft Russ. That team would have won several playoff games. Being a Redskins/WFT/Commie fan has been nothing but misery and agony for 30 years, but that decision cemented them as worst franchise in the NFL the last decade. Maybe one day Commie fans will be proud of this team again, but I'm not optimistic.
Snyder single-handedly ruined RG3 by pampering him. Remember how much we hailed RG3 as a mature and humble young man when he came out of Baylor? Well, when the owner coddles a young player, that player can easily develop a superiority complex around everyone else, including his coaches. No, the injury certainly didn't help RG3's career, but let's not ignore the impact Snyder's coddling had either.
As a Commanders fan, I was done with Snyder YEARS ago. From the Deion signing, to Haynesworth, to Jim Zorn, it has been really hard to cheer for my team. Hell, the only reason that they went with Commanders is because they wouldn't have to TOTALLY throw away the stuff from the "Football Team" era instead of giving the fans what they wanted with Red Wolves or Hogs. Major Tuddy is a poor attempt at reconciliation, but I'll give him time to grow on me. I'm a jaded fan, but I'll always have hope based on what we do in the player department and actually trying to keep the players that we do draft.

IF this franchise ever becomes great once again, no one ever better call me (and every other suffering man, woman and child) a bandwagon fan after suffering through the Snyder era.
As a DMV resident, it was tough. I had a football team that I couldn’t root for because their success was that bastards success. Him being gone is great. I’d prefer he didn’t get so much money for running the team into the ground, but he’s gone and good riddance
Now do one on pathetic owners of Baseball teams... Like Chris Illitch - who cares more about the cost of pepperoni than he does getting actual TALENT on his team.
There was a 2000 game vs. Baltimore, that isn't brought up, even though it should be. Snyder made the ravens pay for parking, which only a cartoon villan would do. He made the PA announcer shout to a bunch of drunk fans, "Ravens fans suck!" He also had the band in the stadium play music while the ravens were executing plays, which is illegal. The skins won 10-3 over the eventual world champs, but Snyder lost all respect off the field by everyone
When Snyder dies there will be a nice luxury box he can share with Art Modell and Marge Schott but first he has to talk with head of security, John Riggins.

Excellent video, but I’ve got one slight correction that needs to be made: Washington did defeat Detroit in the ‘99 NFL Playoffs. BUT - Barry Sanders actually retired at the end of the ‘98 NFL season. So Barry did NOT play in Detroit’s playoff loss to Washington.
@@coot33 it was classic and a cornerstone of the original league. Even Washington Football team had that kick of centennial institution. Commanders feel like a made up team from a Friday night lights episode. It has the same appeal as Charlotte Bobcats
If the Nationals are commonly known as the Nats, they should refer to the football team using a shortened nickname of the normal mascot also. The Washington Commies has a nice ring to it. Might want to change the team color from maroon to red though.
For DC based professional sports teams, Alex Ovechkin since day one of his rookie season with the Caps, he has gotten DC sports fans to give up Washington Football for Caps Hockey. It is an indication fans are long fed up with Daniel Snyder and the reason why Fed Ex Field has been declining the stands.

And just like you described in this video, it was ALWAYS drama and controversy within the organization. He ruined sooooo much about this team, he’s been the worst owner in all of sports.
and yet people always be bashing nfl players, mainly black players, about shit they done in the past. Yet when I tell them to talk about the owners, like Kraft and Snyder, crickets.
Dan Snyder once had a tree chopped down that he could see from his office window. Only problem was it wasn't even anywhere close to the teams property. He just cut someones tree down because he didn't like it.
hey Fivepoints, could you do a mini series revolving the owners, past and present, as well as iconic sporting venues across the major sports? I'm sure that alone could keep you video queue long and various of people involved. just an idea.
My cousins are full blood Cherokee and they always considered the name endearing. They were the ones who informed me that the logo was actually a portrait of Chief Two Guns White Calf. I understood the name being polarizing, despite it's origins being celebratory of the North Eastern Native Americans, but I never quite understood why the logo needed to be changed. My best guess is most people just don't do any research and want something to be upset about. Make enough noise and people will eventually cave.
I was born in 1983 and raised in NoVa...I used to be a die hard Redskins fan. But ever since Snyder took over, I can tell you we hate this guy. Here's to the new owners!
Thank you for at least acknowledging that they were once actually called, "The Redskins." It's been sooooo difficult to be a Washington fan the last quarter century!
Any fan base can tolerate mismanagement or over reach. As a bears fan, weve done just that for what seems like decades. But when youre a jackass and compound bad moves with self indulgence or a total lack of self awareness (going after fans season tickets or signs) THATS when a problem thats a 4 turns into a 9
If it were me , I wouldn't have changed the team name - I would have changed the LOGO. On the side of every helmet and on every t-shirt, I would have a picture of the Redskin POTATO ! On promo material - a photo of an order of loaded potato skins- all full of bacon, cheese and sour cream... !
I'm only six minutes into this, but I *really* hope you touch on how Shanahan ruined things by 1) playing a rookie on one leg against the Legion of Boom and 2) rushing said rookie back to the field after major knee surgery. Edit: You didn't touch on it, but folks, believe me when I tell you that Mike Shanahan threw a limping rookie quarterback to the wolves. The footage is just sad, and then RG3's knee literally buckles after he tried to bend down and pick up a botched snap from the center.

As a DMV resident, it was tough. I had a football team that I couldn’t root for because their success was that bastards success. Him being gone is great. I’d prefer he didn’t get so much money for running the team into the ground, but he’s gone and good riddance
Watching the old Southpark clip of Snyder constantly getting sacked by the Cowboys feels so so good. Coming from a non-fan of both teams.
Coming from.a Washington fan that would be the only time I ever root for the Cowboys.
Now do one on pathetic owners of Baseball teams... Like Chris Illitch - who cares more about the cost of pepperoni than he does getting actual TALENT on his team.
He’s not going to, dog piling on Snyder is what’s cool.
Trump lite
Low-key funny 😂😂
When Snyder dies there will be a nice luxury box he can share with Art Modell and Marge Schott but first he has to talk with head of security, John Riggins.
You know its bad when your rivals’ fan take pity on your franchise
Really takes a LOT to stand out as the NFL's worst owner, and yet I don't think many people would dispute you describing him as such.
I am convinced 5points low key has personal beef with Snyder. 😂
Beef History: Five Pointvids vs Dan Snyder
So it will go from a "damn good culture" to "trust the process"
Bad ownership is one of the most depressing things in sports, because you can't fire an owner, so the fans are just stuck waiting hopelessly.
Dan Snyder...WORST OWNER EVER!!! Title previously held by Donald Sterling, prior to him Harold Ballard. Honorary mention, Norm Green.
Any other team/owner, I'd feel what Haynesworth did was reprehensible.
Synder? He conned a con man, have to respect him a little for that.
Five points on a Saturday 👍
The only sad part is that he will never be held accountable for his crimes because our society is broken.
Every fan’s “it could be worse” guy.
0:48 this is the best thing an NFL team president or GM has ever said. As a fan of another team in the NFC East I’d like to personally thank Dan Snyder for being the worst owner in the NFL
Cowboys fan here. I remember the year Snyder took over. My Dad said he thought he was an A-hole. He couldn't have been more correct lol
"the hogs" was the perfect name to change to... history, glory, accepting of fan actions, allegory to the capital... But yea, commanders...
They should've stuck with Redskins.
That might be a good idea, but that depends upon how Josh Harris thinks of that name.
If you want to thank someone for expanding the popularity of the Baltimore Ravens throughout the DMV, and Carolinas thank Daniel Snyder. And as a Charm City native, I LOVE IT!
7 seconds into the video; “…telemarketing CEO” Thats all I needed to hear lmao
And yet, having that Gym Teacher as your QB1 for one season was enough for Dan Snyder to sell the team.
They used to be the talk of the league…….now they are the dirt of the league
He really is the worst NFL owner though 💯
Happy saturday you fuckin dorks! New FP vid, its gon be a good day
The 99 wild-card game wasn't Barry's last. Barry Sanders retired after the 1998 season. The Lions did not make the playoffs that year.
The NFL's worst owner? Ha! Have you met the Fords? 😂😂😂
I subbed to your channel the minute you said “We talkin bout practice.” Lol. Well done indeed!
Under Snyder, they should have changed the name to Washington Team of Football (WTF).
If Yoda had been with the team they might have.
You had the golden opportunity of renaming them to the Washington Hogs, an engaging name that has actual team history
Redskins was such a great name too. :(
@@coot33 it was classic and a cornerstone of the original league. Even Washington Football team had that kick of centennial institution.
Commanders feel like a made up team from a Friday night lights episode. It has the same appeal as Charlotte Bobcats
Redhogs -- it should have been Redhogs - maybe the new owner will rebrand - lets hope so
@@rockaway0beach the commanders sounds like a terrible AA baseball team
If the Nationals are commonly known as the Nats, they should refer to the football team using a shortened nickname of the normal mascot also. The Washington Commies has a nice ring to it.
Might want to change the team color from maroon to red though.
Don't forget the 'Skins at one time claimed they were 'Winning OFF the field' lol. Goodness, that still makes me laugh.
Love how both dan Snyder and Dan Schneider are like the same, awful person
It’s amazing the Ford Family hasn’t been the subject of criticism with the 60-plus years of incompetence running the Lions!
As a Eagles fan, thanx for all the great memories Dan.
Please do more about owners
You didn't mention the Steve Spurrier dumpster fire.
"none of them has been as much of an embarrassment as Snyder" hey, give Haslam some time, he's working on it!
As a lifelong skins fan mannnnn you have no idea how happy we are he’s gone. I mean my grandpa who was born in the 30s is a fan, my dad and I are fans. We are from that area and they were once the gold standard of the nfl, when he took over they were having some down years but he REALLY ran us into the ground. And just like you described in this video, it was ALWAYS drama and controversy within the organization. He ruined sooooo much about this team, he’s been the worst owner in all of sports.
The culture is actually damn good
I didn't think there could be any worse of an owner in the NFL than Hugh Culverhouse, but ol' Danny Boy said, "hold my beer."
I mean….Snyder made Jerry Jones seem tolerable. I used to think that was as possible as dividing by zero.
and yet people always be bashing nfl players, mainly black players, about shit they done in the past. Yet when I tell them to talk about the owners, like Kraft and Snyder, crickets.
Why do you gotta bring race into this, 🤡🤡🤡. We all know what Kraft and Snyder did.
As the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons would call him,
"Worst. Owner. EVER!"
Embarrassing. He ruined a great franchise. They about have to start over as an expansion team.
Who is a worse owner Donald Sterling in basketball, Snyder in Football, or the Oak A’s owner in baseball (their trashiness is extremely underrated)?
Snyder... Schneider. Same first name, same creeps, just different spelling lol. Coincidence?
Always love your documentaries. The combo of your narration style, wit and humor. Yet again - great job!
Dan Snyder once had a tree chopped down that he could see from his office window. Only problem was it wasn't even anywhere close to the teams property. He just cut someones tree down because he didn't like it.
Typical magat.
hey Fivepoints,
could you do a mini series revolving the owners, past and present, as well as iconic sporting venues across the major sports?
I'm sure that alone could keep you video queue long and various of people involved. just an idea.
Im a simple man.
I see a critical dan snyder video, i like.
it really doesn’t feel real that this nightmare is over, been a loooong 20 years man
Dan Snyder was the gift that just kept on giving to the rest of the NFC East.
Me - Native American - the internal and cathartic satisfaction i get from watching this soulless franchise crumble is unbound.
Dan Snyder made Cowboys fans GRATEFUL to have Jerry Jones.
😅🤣😂
"Beloved owner Jack Kent Cooke", is a stretch. We liked him and all, but beloved? Maybe it was love compared to the awfulness of Snyder.
If I had a nickel for everytime that someone named Dan Snyder was a horrible person/hated I’d have 2 nickels
The South Park episode really does sum it up.
First in war, first in peace, and fourth in the NFC East.
The new owners ought to change the name to either Hogs or Pigskins 🐖 🐷 😅
The 1999 wild card game was not Barry Sanders' final game. He retired after the 1998 season.
Legendary episode
