  • Generating signals with a waveform, function, or arbitrary generator lets you test all kinds of circuits. Learn how to get a function generator to output a signal, the 3 types of waveforms you can create, and which controls matter. hi there. I’m 56 now, had some knowledge of electronics three decades ago, but never tried hard to learn ins and outs of it until recently. I bought almost all testing equipment and would like to repair motor controllers, work on smps etc. have you managed to learn a lot within last three years since you wrote this comment?

    I haven't used a function generator but I have seen the sweep function used when testing audio amplifier circuits. 20hz to 20khz sine wave, to see if amplification is close to linear throughout the range.

    The generator sweep i use for filter test with a scope. You can do the same thing with a SA but that SA will require a track be more money and SA may have sensative inputs you dont want to blow up. For me the scope and generator are a better fit for when i need it. Im not at RF frequencies so it works.

    Ok so I have no clue how to properly use a function generator. I did buy an inexpensive one on temu because I’d like to learn to use it. I’m wanting to learn about sound waves and build one of the sound/sand tables that makes the shapes depending on the frequency played. I want to know what frequencies match up with certain crop circles that haven’t been proven to be man made. That, and I think it’d be cool to make one and see the shapes in general. I know I don’t need one for that, but I’d like to know the specifics of the frequencies so I understand better. Do you have any suggestions for me 😊 a very clueless beginner. Have you ever built a table like that?

      FYI, everyone, the above MDS8207 has a max frequency of 9.999MHz, so if you need higher than that you'll need something else.

    • @bald_engineer
      @bald_engineer 6 місяців тому

      Technically, yes. But the drive strength (current/power capability) out of a function generator is very low. You would need some external amplifer circuit to drive a speaker.

    OK this is a important question to me I hope you read this. I am just now learning electronics in an old age out of boredom LOL. So I've been tinkering with Arduino and building my own simple circuits to make my life easier I've built a couple small projects that turned out nice etc. I do not have a scope but I'm in the market for one and I'm only gonna be able to afford a Chinese one someone told me hantec makes some that are also combo signal generators.
    This is important to me because add an unrelated topic I have a case of galvanometers that are very expensive they were from a facility we shut down and they were gonna throw them out despite them being brand new but sarbanes Oxley dictates you have to get rid of that inventory if the product line is gone so it was going in the dumpster. I took like $50,000 worth of I'm home but some of them are known to be bad in the box and they weren't marked well by the guy that used to tune them.
    The driver boards are paired up with the galvanometers and I'm pretty sure I know how to make the adjustments but I wasn't sure if he used a signal generator to do this does that make sense to you at all? I believe he was using an oscilloscope and the signal generator to trim the square wave and get out the peaks. So does it sound like some a job for a signal generator?

    • @yrath5034
      @yrath5034 4 роки тому +3

      Toaster ovens are very commonly used in labs as cheap re-flow ovens for surface mount assembly.
      There are DIY controllers for them to ensure that the temperature profile is correctly followed so that the parts and solder paste used is correctly re-flowed.
      Search UA-cam for "SMD toaster oven".

    Are function generator and pulse generator same?
    I have SIGLENT made 50-ohm function generator, can I use this instrument as a power source for electrodeposition. How can I generate pulsed current using a function generator?

    • @RoadToFuture007
      @RoadToFuture007 2 роки тому

      You need to amplify it using a transistor (bipolar, mosfet, igbt - it depends on). This transistor needs to witstand the current and voltage you use. There are special transistors designed for use in power circuts. Maybe you need to use cooling. Also you may use a driver before transistor.
