    Calculators will get you in the ballpark of 1% front to rear variance but i can tell you from experience that different manufacturer sizes even though they state same dimensions vary a lot.

    Great video guys! To clarify for those that are still a little confused, the aspect ratio on the tire is represented as a percentage. For example 245/35-19, 35 is 35% of 245mm.

      @Variant Wheels Quick question guys: is the 1% difference a range in the + AND - Spectrum? In other words, is a -1.9% difference in the negative spectrum too much of a difference in diameter? The video isn't clear on that part? Thanks in advance for any clarification.

    • @maxl7827
      @maxl7827 Рік тому

      @@AlmightyEye Doesn't matter if its + or - spectrum. But 1.9% difference is too much in my experience and so is 1%. Try to match within 0.5% is my recommendation...

    The 2nd number or the aspect ratio is the percentage.
    So 235/35 means the tire is 235mm wide and 35% of 235mm wide
    or 235 x .35 = 82.25mm

  • @xhioni
    @xhioni 2 роки тому

    The problem, if one analyses the physics inside the transfer box, is that the X-drive system is deficient. Put another way, it needs to be even more complex than it already is, to allow for different wheels/tyres/rolling diameters.

  • @colbyscott9822
    @colbyscott9822 Рік тому

    While "height divided by width" is true, it's much easier to thing about the aspect ratio as percentage of the width. Technically, it's the same thing but I'm betting most of us find it easier to thing about it in percentages.

    So my biggest question is that my m850i xDrive convertible came with front 245/35/20 and back 275/30/20 Perelli Runflat, so I Hit a pothole high speed which bent the front wheels and tires Bursted, in emergency the available tires installed by the shop are 245/45/20 vs 245/35/20 and my All wheel drive system is acting weird and throwing system malfunction and holding one side etc and etc.
    So what bigger tire size or spacers can I get to fill the wheel both front and back.

    They come from the factory with a staggers setup. IDK why this is even a question.

      I don't think thats true all the time. My 2015 328xi has square setup while my 2016 328i rwd has staggered.

      so this is a result of pre-LCIs having a bad part in the transfer case and staggered wheels being blamed a lot for causing the issues with them. My SA took one look at my aftermarket wheels and warned me of all the transfer cases he had replaced and that they wouldn't cover the warranty with aftermarket staggered wheels. Even people with square setups were having the issue and BMW changed out the part in the LCI. Bimmerpost F30 forums has a spreadsheet on the transfer case failures and they all seem to be 2014 and before with a couple 2015s.
