Calculators will get you in the ballpark of 1% front to rear variance but i can tell you from experience that different manufacturer sizes even though they state same dimensions vary a lot.
Great video guys! To clarify for those that are still a little confused, the aspect ratio on the tire is represented as a percentage. For example 245/35-19, 35 is 35% of 245mm.
@Variant Wheels Quick question guys: is the 1% difference a range in the + AND - Spectrum? In other words, is a -1.9% difference in the negative spectrum too much of a difference in diameter? The video isn't clear on that part? Thanks in advance for any clarification.
@@AlmightyEye Doesn't matter if its + or - spectrum. But 1.9% difference is too much in my experience and so is 1%. Try to match within 0.5% is my recommendation...

Sounds like you need to have it scanned. Sounds like you probably got speed sensor faults, or maybe steering angle sensor errors. A full system scan is the first step.
I followed your guidance. I just installed new staggered wheels on 2021 G 20 M340i xDrive, F 8.5x20 et 22 with 245/35/20, R 10x20 et 40 with 285/30/20. Perfectly fit. I further added Bilstein Evo SE to lower the car. Perfect, I say.

The problem, if one analyses the physics inside the transfer box, is that the X-drive system is deficient. Put another way, it needs to be even more complex than it already is, to allow for different wheels/tyres/rolling diameters.
While "height divided by width" is true, it's much easier to thing about the aspect ratio as percentage of the width. Technically, it's the same thing but I'm betting most of us find it easier to thing about it in percentages.

Very helpful video B. Just purchased M3 all wheel drive. Now I’m ready to order tires and rims.
My 335D XDrive M Sport has staggered wheels as standard from the factory with 19" x 8J fronts and 19" x 8.5J's at the rear so it must be safe to do.

The 1% rule is more along the lines of 1.1%, as BMW's own owners manual shows 245/35/20 F 275/30/20 R being a stock fitment for xDrive cars.
Thank you for this info..I need to see this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its because wider tires heat up more quickly therefore the air pressure increases more. So while driving the difference will be less
I had staggered factory wheels on my X5 is that just a thing for the cars?
As long as overall diameter is the same you can stagger away. Either in cars or SUV.
xDrive wheels are all over the place from factory. IIRC M sports come with staggered in europe, but not in the US, etc etc etc
Yeah that’s staggered from the factory. It’s built for it

Not sure but the 4 series may have just a little more room than the 3. That may be why you’re able to run 40s under there on the front

FT: 9.0 x 19 ET 30
Rr: 9.5 x 19 ET 35
The 2nd number or the aspect ratio is the percentage.
So 235/35 means the tire is 235mm wide and 35% of 235mm wide
or 235 x .35 = 82.25mm
