Out of curiosity, would Mickey Mania 2 have been released before the PS1 port of the original? Was the PS1 version released in lieu of the cancellation of the sequel? Just seems odd Sony gave it completely diferent title.
I get the feeling this was in development right after MM1 since he mentions in the video they used the 3D for Toy Story. So I can only imagine they went to Disney and said "hey we want to make MM2" and Disney said "BAM! This is our new movie. Make a game for it quick". In fact the movie game from what I can see came out the same month as the movie, which is pretty damn impressive and it would be interesting to know what the sales were because of this.

Even Epic Mickey was toned down from its initial darker tone to fit more with Disney’s mandates

Not quite. Both systems have their strengths and weaknesses. The SNES could provide extra colour and had a technically superior sound chip that was ahead of its time. Eh, it's technically on par with Hard Drivin' on the MD, and the latter didn't cheat with extra chips.

Perhaps if you designed the hud and the gun in the 3d part differently, more in the mickey mouse setting, some more 2d billboard props to warm the room up, it would get a different reaction at disney instead of pouring a doom sauce on it haha.
The effect of colors and background appearing at the start of the stage really impressed me. It is a shame this game was not made, I love mickey mania.
Always love your MegaDrive videos...its a damn shame you arent still making MegaDrive games as an Indie Dev because, while Mickey Mania 2 might be 25 years old, it really is a stand-out work for the console. Thanks Brother!

I would really like to know how that impressive swinging rope effect works, it looks so smooth! I have an idea of how it'd work but it'd be great to hear it from the source
With so many new Mega Drive games being released nowadays it would be great to see you raising funds with a Kickstarter for finishing this game or just creating something new.
Man, Mickey Mania looks neat. What could have been...
Say Mr. Burton, could you give us some secrets on your 3D games? I’d love to see some of your secrets on A Bug’s Life. I love that game.
Perhaps if you designed the hud and the gun in the 3d part differently, more in the mickey mouse setting, some more 2d billboard props to warm the room up, it would get a different reaction at disney instead of pouring a doom sauce on it haha.
That firefly thing appeared in Rondo of Blood, really cool the same idea was implemented here. Never played Mania 1 but always wanted to give it a try
Wait a minute....does this mean a rudimentary port of Doom is possible on the Genesis?! Could it finally be done to a certain extent?
The effect of colors and background appearing at the start of the stage really impressed me. It is a shame this game was not made, I love mickey mania.
Always love your MegaDrive videos...its a damn shame you arent still making MegaDrive games as an Indie Dev because, while Mickey Mania 2 might be 25 years old, it really is a stand-out work for the console. Thanks Brother!
Given how Zero Tolerance performs on the genesis as a shipping rom, the performance on your Disney DOOM segment is incredible. Even better than what we got from the actual DOOM for 32x.
It's far far simpler than DOOM though, it's essentially wolfenstein 3d, which can run fine on genesis.
This is visually super impressive. I especially love the animation
Who did the art work? It’s amazing. Can you do an interview with the guy or gal or who did and ask them techniques and software please? X
this is coding secrets, not arting secrets!
You are so talented. I love this content so much. Thank you for all the fun games that made my childhood!
Totally love these videos - please keep making them.
In the first toon, in the first filmstrip, when the cartoons first lengthened, one stood. He chose the path of perpetual brand recognition. In his ravenous expansion, he found no equal, and with boiling blood, he scoured the legal fields, seeking vengeance against the copyright infringers who had wronged him. And those that tasted the bite of his Keyblade named him…the Goof Slayer.
Best channel theme tune on UA-cam!
I was always really impressed with Micky Mania's graphics on the SNES when I was younger. Great stuff.
I'm so happy you shared this with us, I'm super impressed now but I really would have gone nuts if I saw this when I was younger if this came out on the genesis. Maybe someday if you have the time and inclination you can create a new game we can run on an emulator or a new cartridge game.
This is amazing, always a treat to see these
I wish you made more genesis coding tutorials with tricks like these as the target.
Maybe even one day a sega saturn dev series ? :)
Thanks again and I hope to hear more from you in the near future
what happened to this channel, it was allways very Informative, is it now dead
Excellent gameplay mechanics and platforming... definitely keeps you busy and kinda reminds me of Sony PS3's Uncharted games in it's foundation.
great video.
Of course scheduling around that time played a role since Toy Story was the new thing in 1995.
Beautiful animation of the rope, "doom" section brillant !
What could've been... "Thanks" to the suits who deprived us of Mickey Mania 2...
Bummer this title was cancelled. So many fascinating ideas within the demos. I wonder if someday it could be released.
