This is crazy, $120 may be nearly twice the crummy old one, it's far far cheaper than anything from companies such as profoto and Broncolor. Gonna order one right now.
Hi Alex - I use the Aputure (original) Fresnel attachment on studio flash heads and of course you get a nice image of the flash tube in the pattern especially at the 12 degree end, just like the square chip on the Godox light. It's easily solved though, with a bit of diffusion paper/translum behind the Fresnel glass. Glad Aputure blocked up all the holes - I'll definitely pick up a couple of the new ones.
@@photigy ah yes, thank you...cause several time i'm facing with pattern issue of reflector with honeycomb grid especially for lower degrees and the only way to reduce effect is to put the light futher away

Interesting. Fresnel lenses also concentrate the light which can be handy if you're using the lens as a key light. The ability to add barn doors can also be handy--again when using as a key light.
Massimo Sansoni this depends on the lengths of the bulb. For example, I guess the godox ad200 bare bulp and the s-type bracket can work if pulled back. Not 100% sure. Since we havent tested that.
Ok yes ad200 works but it haven’t modeling light. For ad600pro o similar monolight oldest version works , the new no. I think it’s something that could be in favor of the version zero or 1.0

Hi Alex. Thanks for review. I just have worries about 2nd version of Aputure Fresnel comparing to 1st one. Since in updated version there is no ventilation holes, how is about the overheating? I have Godox sl-200 which is more powerful vs Aputure 120 and Godox 150, and I'm thinking of buying Aputure 2x fresnel but have a doubts about overheating. Thank you
Will this Aputure 2X or the first version work with paul c buff einstein strobes (with a Balcar adapter)? i am thinking to buy 2-3 einsteins, and was going to get 2 7" reflectors + 10, 20, 30 grids for each reflector, but perhaps this is better. So, i understand reflector grids are not good for product photography in general, not only backgrounds, a bit, like using grids with stripbox that is not useful or recommended (i think). In December - January i suscribe to Photigy :). I appreciate a lot the great work you do and I am grateful for everything I have learned just by watching your channel.
Hello MR. very educative video, thank you very much for that. but i still have unanswered questions in my mind about this piece of gear and i think you could enlighten me because you are a photographer. main question is that , why do a photographer need a fresnel attachment? i want to ask that because you as a photographer use it with video lights as well, not with strobes. i want to use this lens for my photography on strobe lights but never seen anybody use them like that. i wanna do photos where i use that attachments as a strong spotlight behind the subjects or as sun out of the window or things like that. is this attachment any useful for that kind of usage? do you use them with continus lights during your product photoshoots?
Hello. This attachment is excellent, but I use pulsed light in the studio when I shoot. Tell me, can I use the nozzle 2 versions with studio pulse monoblocks? I worry that a pulsed and pilot lamp just does not fit up to the lens inside the nozzle.
It depends on your particular light, you need to check. I’m sure it will fit perfectly profoto or broncolor picolite because it has a tube inside the light body.
Hey, Alex nice review! I have both versions too. Yes, all you've mentioned is true but I have some additional comments from my test. The quality of plastic of 2nd version is worth and it smells bad. When I've been using it paired with Aputure 300d the mounts mount part melted a bit after 8 hours or full power run. It's a shame that it's cost more but still has a flipsy plastic Bowens mount. The first version has better plastic material. I did suggest to Aputure to make an updated design and make a metal mount. Or even replaceable mount (speeding inserts are cheap). Overall it's great I with it will be more durable.
Roman - thank you for your feedback! We did not encounter such thing yet, but we did not run the V2 lens on a hot light for a long time yet. Will do a long term review once we put more time on it - thank you!
I have one of these and it works ok. Eats a lot of light, and leaks it out of the sides, but can produce a very precise spot with the right GoBO inside. www.essentialphoto.co.uk/product/ef-mount-optical-snoot-spot-projector/
@@photigy As a professional photographer with 25 years of experience in the industry, I would have to say you will get as good a result with a tube of pringles as you would with top level pro gear. The only difference being that one solution will save you money and the other will save you time.
Paula, we love DIY stuff as well, it saves money and often fun to do. However, for a good spot tube (or any snoot) won't work as good as fresnel lens. The spot won't have that soft and smooth light falloff.

Agree. Because of the large bulbs on ad400 and ad600 it wont suit. Ad200 has modeling light if you use the fresnel head. Not with bare ulb :(

Thinking of adapting this to a Profoto D1. The back seems to fit and the D1 has a very even circular light. Hopefully it won't melt :)
Unfortunately, Profoto will not work, even with a bowens-profoto adapter there will be poor light. The lamp will be visible. Tried on D2
