A mum from Middlesborough has blasted a school for making pupils stand up when a teacher enters the class, labelling the practice as “Victorian” and a “regimented power trip”. However, the school’s headteacher has defended the institution saying it is “getting the basics right” and teaching pupils to respect others. So should children stand for teachers in school and is it an important mark of respect?

It’s not power trip, it’s just showing respect.
Yes. A sign of respect and discipline
YES. Kids usually chatter and play and having them stand up it creates an interruption, a "the teacher is in and it's time to do work now" moment.
My god. This headteacher should be in charge of all UK education!
We're living in an age that scorns discipline and self control
It is out of respect. Why on earth are the core values in life being turned into something else. Too many kids these days have no boundaries, respect, integrity. It's shocking. Discipline in a good way instills stability and security for children which should start at home but sadly in too many homes this is not the case.
MY MUM sent me to school in GHANA , and thats how the school was , even more strict
two people disagreeing respectfully and even playfully. what????
We did this growing up in India and it was completely normal.
This teacher is heading for a lot of trouble. Just wait for it.
you called it
True that!
I think they should it’s showing respect . The way i grew up we respect our teachers because they r the biggest influence in life they help us also shape as person n learn
I grew up completely different in a school where you dont stand up or anything but you do need to follow tge one way system but this school is mad i wouldnt last 10 seconds tbf 😂😂😂😂
Not only should they stand but they should bow like in Japan.
We never did this at my school and...... it was fine. We had the best exam results in the local authority area and I achieved good grades. This kind of stuff is just a power trip done by people who hate children (and are probably just child abusers).
coping the french
Katherine is hot, hot, hot.
Went to a high school that did this, I never saw it as a sign of respect, I just thought it was annoying and outdated.
