So glad to get an update on my favorite Datsun build!! 😍 It's really cool that you gave us the truth about what issues your ZX has and honestly I fall in love with it every time I see it 😍😍
thanks for the view and the comment I appreciate it and yeah I just want to be as transparent as possible with the build because its an old car and its gonna have her flaws
@@GoProRid3r Yeah, but you love her and that's all that matters. I'm a sucker for classic cars, if you couldn't tell by my profile picture 😂, so seeing someone do a classic build is amazing, especially when it turns out this good 😍
Hey, if you like the tucked in look in front of the rear wheel, just get your friend to drive it again but do the opposite "lose control move" he did before lol. Great video, I love the subtle meditation music.
haha I should huh?! thanks for the feedback and yeah im always listening to some subtle music while working on the car keeps me calm and focused so I don't break shit lol
appreciate you taking the time to watch it and comment below. Yeah these older cars are going to soon fall apart and have small things go wrong with them but depending on if you're the type to fix them it'll start to over whelm people but just stay on top of the little issues and it'll be worth it
I love this video. Thanks for being transparent with us Bruce. Humble and honest which is what a lot of you tubers lack these days. It could be time to learn some body work or body shop. I learned and came to love bodywork/paint. It’s a very rewarding art.
I was honestly thinking about investing in another 280zx to practice body work and to create body panels and possibly parts for it so I might pick up that itch again since I found one for $600 turbo
That is the most famous ZX on the internet. I know talking to many ZX owners your ZX was THE inspiration, you showed what could be done. Please buy a full foul weather car cover. Those leaves are going to continue in the cracks ,hold moisture and cause much more rust.. Time for ZX 2.0 !
oh for sure she's a little dirty and rough around the edges but makes me want to fix her up cause that's the love and hate relationship with old car builds
You’re going to have to remove the windshield to fully take care of the rust by the cowl, the rust creeps up where the windshield lays, I had to do that on my ZX On the bottom and top
Bruce713 definitely have a professional remove the glass, there maybe rust building up underneath you may not even see yet, I removed as much rust as possible with a grinder and used some rust converter over any pin holes and covered the entire area with truck bed liner to prevent water to get back under there and do the same damage. Its definitely a process but it’s a common issue on these cars
Bruce713 unlike the S30, the cowl panel is part of the unibody on an S130 and the rust resolution road is a rocky one, unfortunately. There is actually a post on 280zx Drivers. right now that shows what likely lies underneath. The response is a split between “sand it, spray it and send it” and “it’s terrible, part it out”. I had similar rust bubbles and sanded it down, catalyzed the rust and painted it. The windshield fit back in securely and only I can tell that it was repaired. Don’t let a broken nail keep her from going to the dance!!!
@@JeffAgner haha yes I knew from the beginning the road to building a classic would include rust but yeah I think I just saw a recent post about a windshield repair from another zx user so ill look into it and see how much is involved once its off. Thanks for the feedback
I like lot of that Pantera Hatch, I get idea from Your car to planning same for my -82 Zx 280 2+2 . I think Your car is coolest looking ZX 280 in UA-cam.
Wouldn't be a Datsun without Rust..I wouldn't my mind seeing this build on coilovers with a rebuilt L-series or Sr maybe...On a side note older you get less time u have for a project car..Work always wins..Keep grindn!
I was tempted to invest in another zx just to practice body work and creating body panels etc fiberglass work but who knows maybe ill get the itch and find another :) but yes the older we get the less time we have to work on our projects and spend more time with your loved ones
I started recording one the same day since I couldn't stand seeing all the dirt and leaves inside of it so I will work on finishing that video to upload as well!
I forget which one it was but im sure I ordered it off eBay like 5 years ago and simply typed in 280zx steering hub. but im using nrg to quick release the steering wheel
Bruce713 what coilovers are you running? cause I can’t seem to find any for my 280zx and I get it back from the body shop in like 2 weeks so I need to find some for it.
@@hypnotiqzz9984 I think he's on bags right now but if you want to run coilovers look into the s13 coilovers conversion since there isn't a lot of coils made for the 280zx
I'm looking to actually buy one of these and make it a modernized daily drive car that's fun. I have a plan for it to be a project car I build over the course of time since I'm still young. I found a 1983 Nissan 280Z for sale for $3,000 dollars with promising photos. Paint is decent and car has 212,000 miles, and drives as far as I know. There is also little rust I could see, apart from obvious sections of the car that always rust. Any tips you could pass on to a rookie? Any quirks or common problems with these cars? Since they are mechanically old, I know they can be reliable if maintained properly. Thanks. And awesome video. :)
@@GoProRid3r Trynna put some after market wheels on the Datsun, the wheel hub is too small though and the wheels wont fit in the front because of the big thing in the middle of the wheel hub assembly, did you come across the same problem?

Careful with that tent, if the wind blows, the legs could damage the paint, get a car cover for that beauty. Mine leaks at the sunroof a little.
