Notice how the Wife is holding her head down so that she doesn’t see the baby? So cruel.
Cruel indeed...😭
Well that’s one way of looking at it
You have a good eye.
There's women around the world desperate for money who are surrogates who aren't allowed to hold the baby after birth so they don't bond with it - this was on a show about surrogacy in Georgia.
She’s treated like a broodmare, forced to give birth in public and not allowed to see the life she carried.
The movie is way too colorful for the history they are telling
That’s rather the point I think. To the characters in the story, this has become normal to them.
One might argue then that a mundane and realistic colour scheme (more along the lines of the TV series perhaps?) would be more appropriate, but I find it perversely fitting regardless. Either way on a technical level, it looks interesting.
Definately not what I was imagining when i read the book. I imagined something more uptight, more uneasy. The house being more fancy and silver and the rooms being bigger.
History? Isn't it set in the same time as ours?
@@AshutoshMishra-xi3il what?
@@AshutoshMishra-xi3ilYes but it’s based on true things that have happened throughout human history before
I noticed how the wife didn't actually pretend to give birth along with the handmaid like they did the TV series... that part was so cringe to me lmao
That's the point. It's supposed to be cringe.
@@LordofFullmetalI thought it was supposed to be disturbing/unnerving in a way
That happens in the boom as well
Those is like the show with easter colors
These people like colour codes don't they?
Wives are blue as in the Virgin Mary, Aunts wear brown for authority, Marthas wear dull green for their lowly status as domestic servants, Handmaids wear red to symbolise fertility and blood and the Econowives wear dresses that are Blue, Green and Red striped to symbolise they are the Wives, Marthas and Handmaids simultaneously to their Husbands
@@DrCuriensapprentice creepy
This sort of thing depersonalizes people that's why
@@rromero7849 yes, when there’s no dress code you can’t tell where someone is in the hierarchy but when the uniforms are on it’s takes away some humanity.
All serious discussion aside, these costumes are pretty cool though. Especially the soldiers with their hats and arm bands.

So I know that Gilead only follows the Old Testament but I do believe GOD was fairly plain when he said "Do not covet"....hmm. It's just unfathomable to me how some people can justify anything they choose to so long as it gets them what they want. Wow!
where is the fucking blood and water and screams ... this is a fairy tale
Movies kinda are...
This was the nineties, they didn't go near that stuff much then.
Đây có phải phim không
Yes it’s called Handmaids tale
Yes it’s the 1990 movie adaptation to Antwood’s novel The Handmaid’s tale. Around the early 21st century fertility across the planet drops severely, amidst the societal chaos that ensues, most of the USA is taken over by a Christian extremist group called The Sons of Jacob, they found the Rupublic of Gilead in the majority of the USA (except Alaska and Hawaii), imagine a Christian Saudi Arabia, Non-Christians, LGBT+, Casual sex, adultery, Alcohol, Smoking, drugs, etc are all banned. Women have no rights and are subjected to a class system. The Wives (blue) are the Wives of Commanders, the Aunts (Brown) are the law enforcement for women, Marthas (green) are domestic servants, Handmaids (Red) are breeding vessels for the commanders and Econowives (Blue, Green and Red) are the wives of ordinary men and do the roles of Wives, Marthas and Handmaids for their Husbands.
@@MJ-kr9zb it’s plot must be brutal
@@robertbreschard3493 it is I would look it up it’s based on a book before you watch it. It contains some heavy topics
they're copying her! cruel
They're supposed to see her give birth, so they know how to breathe and move when their time comes.
The rhythm helps the mom stay focused
Why isn't she allowed to see the baby
Because the baby is not hers. She gave birth to it. Basicly dystopian universe where only some wemen can give birth. They are the ones in red. They give birth for the wemen who cannot and have their babies taken away. So to not get atached they are not alowed to see the children.
The wife doesn't want to risk her getting any attachment to it, or at least more than she already would have.
It’s not “her” baby.

That's the point. They are only vessels to get kids for couples who cant so they can raise the birth rate.

So true
@@nightingale0177 um actually exactly like this
@@nightingale0177 you don’t get to tell me that I’m misguided. Don’t be so condescending it isn’t cute
@@nightingale0177 is ignorant a better answer then?
@@nightingale0177 an inconvenience? Pregnancy is just a mere inconvenience? And you say I’m ignoring science? Pregnancy is dangerous and has long term effects and women even have trauma from it. It’s more than a fucking inconvenience. Cruel and unusual punishment is forcing women and little girls to carry unwanted pregnancies against their will. That is classified as torture. A fetus especially one that isn’t even viable doesn’t have the right to use someone’s body without consent. If you don’t want to donate organs to save someone’s life even a child’s, no one can for you even if you are dead. Same thing for women and a fetus. And you pro birthers don’t even care after it’s born so don’t pretend to care about life when you don’t care about the quality of life.
