- This is a video that shows what happens upon detection of a fire within an atrium building here in California. Building codes in the United States require a smoke control system in atriums, high rise buildings, and other structures. Smoke control systems are designed to safely evacuate smoke out of a space during a fire. This video depicts what occurs upon detection of a fire and what building components are connected through the smoke control and fire alarm panel.

excellent video!
Don't worry, if you were in an elevator when this happened it would only recall to the ground level and you could push a button to have the smoke guard rise for a short time to let you out.
Very nice. I like the elevator smoke curtains. What controls are used for the smoke control panel?
May I know the smoke generation rate vs. the smoke exhaust fans total capacity?
Thank you
Would this (SCS) be required on mid-rise structures such as Apartment Complexes?
At Jeremy...no....smoke control is only supposed to be used post fire, when it has been extinguished.
So is this an active smoke control system, or a post fire smoke clearance systems?
David Isaac Active smoke removal system.
Yes, I noticed at 8:13 mins time of the video that smoke generation on the left side of the building continues while the smoke exhaust fans are operating. May I know though the smoke generation rate vs. the smoke exhaust fans total capacity?
Thank you
wouldn't a system like this just fuel a fire with fresh air?
Yes it will, but it makes it a hell of a lot easier and faster and safer for the fire department to extinguish the fire. Since there is a clear field of view without smoke.
