This episode features the late, great Mr. Jack Cassidy, an immensely talented entertainer who died too young in 1976. I also remember Conny Van Dyke for her appearances on 70s game shows. (On "You Don't Say", Conny took her shoes off and waved hello to the studio audience with her lovely stockinged foot!)
This may be where your aunt got the expression, but it was something that people said even before Match Game was on, one of the euphemisms for "Good God", like "good grief".
as much as i love Brett, she didn't invent that phrase at all lol, so i bet that is not at all where your aunt got it from, because "good gravy" is an incredibly common phrase in the english language, and existed for many many decades before "match game".
The word "gallimaufry", Gene, has its stress on the _third_ syllable, not the second. It originally meant a kind of stew (now dated in that sense), but now more often means "any absurd medley". It comes from the French word _galimafrée_ whose origin is not known with any certainty. That was today's vocabulary lesson, folks.
This is a ⭐ episode for several reasons, but this is what lit a fire under me to comment: 15:21 Yet another example of Betty White's twisted comedic genius.
I miss the 70s so much those were. The days the music and matchgame i would watch this show when sick from school . It was on at the time was in school. Or getting out
Jack was also the first husband of another entertainment icon, Shirley Jones. To the best of my knowledge, Shirley was never a guest on "Match Game", which is most regrettable.
Check out Jack Cassidy in his latest movie (at the time), "The Eiger Sanction", for the ultimate portrayal of a campy, yet deadly adversary to ultra straight-arrow Clint Eastwood. Jack could easily have been a Bond villain in the later Moore era if he had lived long enough.
@@virg0_lem0nade Ha! The first thing I thought of was hockey sticks (picturing someone trying to eat with them cracks me up), but no one said it... until you!
I remember watching this episode when I was 9 years old. My answer to the barbecue question was closest to Betty's - she had plenty of steaks! (Chilling and sad to think that Jack Cassidy was on this panel of guests, joking about a celebrity on fire then dying that way himself a year later.)
Ron Valenti is findable on Facebook and he seems to be a very happy man with a lovely wife and soccer-playing college-age daughter. I'm glad that he's apparently had a good life.
I know that Ron & his first wife Linda, are divorced. I hope that episode of him kissing Fannie Flagg didn't have something to do with him getting a divorce. Fannie was just being entertaining. She likes women😊
hahaha yeah, that's what i was thinking too, when she was crawling around on the floor LOL!! this cast always would drink behind the scenes and in some episodes you can really tell who's too far gone, hahhaha
Richard is English and that may have affected some of his answers, I would have said Pancho Villa. He did not always match. The others were just as good IMO
@@danielplatts9446 for context, Jack was pretty out of his mind at this time in his life, tragically. if you read his Wiki bio, he had just been hospitalized in a mental institution months before this was filmed. He was diagnosed bipolar, and at the time, he was frequently having psychotic episodes. (i do agree his answer made no sense and was sort of wondering if this was why.)

19:59 wonder what was happening off camera with Charles?
Charles put his glasses on to wave to the contestant.
13:19 Eerily prophetic answer, when you consider how Jack Cassidy died. No disrespect intended
Yes. Disturbing really.
Certainly was eerie. He was burned so badly they identified him by dental records and the ring he mentioned in this episode. So sad.
I know ...i was thinking the same thing. When Gene said thats a cruel thought, of that fella standing there burning. 😮
On Jack's last Columbo episode, he does a magic trick using fire. Now this...
Gene loved to pair grey and orange.
3:30 " All right, Earl, slide er by ".
I love how Betty said, "I've got plenty of chicken" in her Sue Ann Nivens voice.
The answer is: Plenty of marshmallows.
I thought there would be at least 3 with that response.
Riley Greenleaf from Columbo!
Rest In Peace Ms Conny Van Dyke
