The issue with Gunther is that he did not show what he is made of without a title or a distinction(KoR). Anyone can look good with a title on his shoulders. Now, I do not deny his termendous amout of skill both in ring and at mic, but if he can only win matches with a title around his waist...or for a title, and he cannot make storylines... Is hard to have a decent run with this audience.
To the surprise of no one Gunther doesn't like it. He is very much his character in that regard. That's fine, I don't think he would be a target for a feud anyways.
I wasn’t a fan of Gunther in the beginning, but man this guy has won me over as a fan. I love his traditional style old school wrestling mentality and approach to his character. His matches are solid and you can tell he gets it. Damian Priest is a future big star for WWE but he just isn’t there yet right now. Triple H failed Priest by not building him up properly and now we’re seeing that result on screen. Gunther needs the title run and Priest needs to reset his character and be built back up the right way.
Its not Triple H's fault Priest hasnt risen to the occasion. Brock Lesnar was world champion within 6 months of his debut and become one of the greats. Damien and all of these new guys had YEARS honing their craft in NXT. Zero excuse for these new guys. They even have promo class to teach them how to speak.

He should have used the Judgement Day split as a way to build him as IC champion to hone his skills and then put him in the main events once he found his voice and character. That didn’t happen and Trips hotshotted Priest up to main events before he was really ready. Creative hasn’t been great with the Judgement Day story as a whole so again, that proves H3 isn’t a smart guy.
I don't agree with Gunther being World champion at Summerslam. Drew worked so hard to get noticed. If anything it would have been better if Drew had a long reign with the title and GUNTHER be the one to win it from him as a believable story. I do agree that if Bron Breakker doesn't dethrone Sami "The Hobo" Zayn, then Ludwig Kaiser dethroning him is a good call. I find it absurd that Ludwig doesn't get the credit he deserves, great talker, good un the ring. I find him to be a calculated heel.

We all know it's a work, but they're not suppose to do shit that points out it's an obvious work. Wrestling is best played straight. We know movies aren't real, but do the actors do weird shit and wink at the camera in the middle of the movie to point out it's not real? No. They play it straight. Wrestling should be no different. There can be off the wall gimmicks and even people who are mentally deranged, but I wish wrestling would stay away from the fantastical, supernatural shit. I feel the same about the wrestlers never looking at the camera, and having discussions with each other as though the camera isn't even there. A live sporting event doesn't have a fourth wall. Of course there's a camera there!! Wrestling has gotten far too cinematic for my taste.
I think that wrestling needs a core of people like Gunther who think like that, who are here to simulate the sport and combat. Yea the Wyatt stuff without Bray really seems watered down and a poor rendition of what Bray probably had envisioned. Sure, if you were going to do it then his brother would have been the obvious and only choice but sometimes you’ve got to let the old dreams die and the new Wyatt’s just seem rather corny for lack of a better term.

We are tired of the flippy, feminine and wrestlers that are always crying. He’s masculine, the stuff he does looks like it hurts , he’s serious and he looks like a grown man.

Dudes a beast in the ring and comes off as real as it can get in the ring. People respect his character as a heel who stands on business on his own two feet with no one's help.
