It's funny that they say that the lead is the most dangerous position to be in at these Olympics. Even when the competition ends, the winner gets the medal taken away. A really strange year.
This made me laugh. "Oh why not, let me just throw an upside Yurchenko quintuple twist even though I've never trained it! Gotta risk big to win big, right?"
AUSTRALIA, competing in the Olympics, was the most dangerous place to be that night! EVERYTHING was set-up WRONG! It's a miracle careers weren't _ended_ this day/night. Multiple athletes had already been reporting something off with the floor as well as that horrifically low vault.
It's time for NBC to get some new commentators for gymnastics. I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Dominique Dawes or Shannon Miller take over Elfi's spot.
Maybe you know this already but this commentator is sitting there saying unrealistic things to attract an uneducated audience. Talk with any coach and they will all explain to you that an athlete performs what they train, they do not improvise. It is both physically and mentally impossible to "throw more difficult skills". You need years of training to have those skills that you see them perform sunk in and become second nature to them. There is no improvising.
Didn't Lisa have a 1.5 Yurchenko at the test event the year before? Too bad we never saw it :(. The Australian coaches made the girls do vaults in qualification they never did before like Al was telling Lisa to do and they all landed horribly :(.
Shaanon Miller actually isn't that great of a commentator on her show, nor are Tasha and Raj on WCSN. As much as I love them, they need to try out the gymnasts first before they put them on air. Being good at gymnastics doesn't mean you can commentate on it. But maybe Amanda Borden or someone else...Alicia Sacremone maybe? Someone fun, but that people would know. The ones they have are just getting old and bitter. At least Al is better then John Tesh, but geez, new commentators please!!!!!
all the leaders in each rotation are falling/stepping out of the line..oh my!

i feel so sorry for karpenko - she was sooo close and such a small error
she wasn't going to win, even without the fall. Raducan's floor scores and Amanar's vault scores were too high.
YOU GO GIRL YOU DESERVE THE BEST SCORE
"The lead is the most unsafe place to be tonight"
The lead is ALWAYS the most unsafe place to be unless you're done. it was like that in 96.
Wow! What a year for gymnastics, huh?
I wished they would have shown all of Liu Xuan's routines since she did get bronze!
Eh, give Skinner a break. She jumped from 36th in Atlanta to 9th in Sydney. That's pretty damn good.
So your saying Catherine she should have kept her mouth shut about the vault and let gymnasts get hurt or worse?
Podkopayeva looks like Emma Watson here.

It is a shame Lisa didn't go for a bigger vault. I agree with the commenter, she should have just went for it.
That's not how gymnastics works.
+iamkarenh what? Try a more difficult skill and get more points?
zeldafreak701 You can't train a harder vault until you master the easier ones she was doing. She could barely put them to her feet most of the time.

@@soledadferrer1325 Except Russian Loboznyuk tried improvising her beam during team finals before she fell.
@kakumei77 she didnt get the bronze until after the games though

Aww thats the best she can do...that was cracking me up
That's what I thought pre-Beijing. Now, however, I have lost all of my respect for Tim and Elfie (never had any for Al).
Lisa's vault is SOO NOT olympic level.
