He is my favorite guitarist! THIS IS AMAZZINGGGGG!!!!!! I want him to come to Virginia to play the concierto de aranjuez sometime, that will be amazing! good luck with guitar David!!!!!!!
Interesting how even the best players on the world consistently mess up the fast thirds as 6:35. Even paco with his mind blowing accuracy misses a whole bar in this phrase. Angel Romero handles it with lots of rubato so that when he gets here he’s able to slow right down and it sounds planned. Classical Guitar is such a technically difficult instrument!!!
I screamed out an enthusiastic YES when I heard the mistake. He is a human after all. It is endearing to see someone of his skill level and caliber make a mistake and roll on. An amateur would have been paralyzed by that. We are all human beings. I have seen all the great guitar masters screw up live. Music is striving passionately for perfection, it isn't achieving it because there is no such thing as perfection (nobody ever told Kazuhito Yamashita that rule). Those dang thirds and stretching back down to get that bass note, it is right about then that your left hand is really feeling the burn and you are praying for those arpeggios to arrive. And you are spot on about Angel Romero, he drains the passion right out by slowing down. Nobody can beat John Williams on the Aranjuez in my opinion. Which is odd, because WIlliams isn't the best at spanish music, he is usually kind of "stiff". Russell's recordings of spanish music are unparalleled.
sin duda uno de los mejores guitarristas del mundo...
Oswaldo Cruz tienes toda la razon
they played this on a Classical radio in the SF Bay Area and I fell in love lol

El sonido va algo retrasado con respecto a la imagen, como se puede apreciar. La interpretación, excelente, como cabe esperar de él.

Is he using amplification?
I prefer Pepe Romero's rendering of this. Especially the cadenza.
I play chess with David Russel, I my dreams, and he don't screw a round for no one.
3-
