- Protesters in Poland drenched the country’s Russian ambassador in red paint on Monday as he attended a ceremony marking the 77th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Ambassador Sergey Andreev was attending a wreath-laying ceremony at a Warsaw cemetery where he and staff were surrounded by demonstrators chanting "fascists", "killers", "shame" and “fuck Putin”.
Many protesters carried Ukrainian flags while some waved the white-red-white flag that has come to symbolise the Belarusian opposition movement.
The war in Ukraine has cast a shadow over this year's Victory Day, when Russians honour the 27 million Soviet citizens who lost their lives in World War Two. Poland, a strong supporter of Ukraine, opposed any large-scale commemoration taking place.
Before leaving, Ambassador Andreev told cameras he was proud of his country and his president.
Ambassador Sergey Andreyev told reporters he and his team were not seriously hurt in the incident, TASS news agency reported.

I expected Polish politicians to behave more professionally. But they forgot that they represent the entire Polish nation, not themselves. As a Pole, I am not interested in whether any Polish politician dislikes Russia. I am interested in the image of my country in the world, and Polish politicians should take care of this image.
Poles help people from Ukraine, take Ukrainians to their homes, share with Ukrainians what they have. People from Ukraine do not camp in tents. It is a social movement, not a political one. We understand the anger of the Ukrainians. In the opinion of many Poles, the Polish government does not represent Poland well in the world. And as a Pole, I can only feel ashamed for the Polish government that any ambassador to Poland can be so disgraced. Poles are not some savages.
We know Putin's realities. If you oppose Putin, you will die. Maybe your entire family will die. The Russian ambassador must therefore carry out his task as Putin expects him to do. I don't know if the ambassador is a good person or a bad person. It is irrelevant. He is an ambassador. The Russian ambassador may present the rhetoric of his country or government, but if he has not been dismissed from Poland, the Polish government should ensure his security and fulfill his duties with dignity.
It should be secured by the Polish police and it should be allowed to pay tribute to the Soviet soldiers. It is required by the ethics of every civilized society.
I am not defending the Russian ambassador here, but I am defending Polish ethics and culture, which Polish politicians have probably forgotten. They also forgot that there is also a Polish embassy in Russia. There are also many Poles in Russia. And most importantly, they forgot that Putin is not all of Russia. Normal Russians also live in Russia. And no matter what the Russian ambassador says, he should be treated with dignity also for those Russians who want a normal, civilized Russia.
Each ambassador should be treated with dignity, he can be treated in warm relationships or cool relationships, but the most important thing is always dignity. How you respect other people says a lot about you, right? Russia deserves an apology for this incident.
Russia's war with Ukraine is another matter. Political relations between Poland and Russia are also another issue. And here it is necessary to separate political rhetoric from political intentions. Social relations between Poles and Russians and Belarusians are not black and white. Are different. Many Russians and Belarusians also live in Poland. And the ambassador always represents the entire nation. And this is what Polish politicians should remember. And this is what I expect from Polish politicians.

I'm Polish and I feel absolutely disgusted of how these people treated this poor diplomat who has nothing to do with the Russian aggression in Ukraine and is protected by diplomatic immunity. This is unacceptable and anyone who threw paint and/or other objects should be punished accordingly.
Spraying paint is just an expression of Ukrainian thinking about Russia. It seems to be a kind of achievement that shows that Russia is carrying out blood alliance diplomacy after spraying red blood with war.
I don’t know how I feel on this…I understand the problem but I have a huge respect for that man getting splashed and staying for more…his security crew failed here, they should have removed him.

Being an ambassador can be dangerous if one day your country goes to war with another nation. You can’t blame him for what’s going on, he is only a diplomat.

The Polish police did not intervene because the president of Warsaw clearly forbade the Russian ambassador to such provocations and celebrate the day of victory when Russia kills Ukrainians, but the stupid ambassador went there privately / that is, not as an ambassador but as an ordinary Russian, so he got what he deserved

The Russians are visiting and vacationing in Ukraine on a special peace and friendship mission by the thousands right now. Be aware that many Poles can speak Russian, thanks to Special Russian Language Sharing Program back in the days of the Soviet Union. Don't they teach you anything in school?
