As of writing this comment, Cold-Start in the A-10C defaults you into a cockpit with the 'Fuel Display Sel'(ector) on 'WING' (for me at least) which confused the hell out of me as to why my fuel was seemingly evaporating two switches in... Thank you so much for this series! Been having a hard time finding digestible tutorials for true beginners and your pace and vocabulary are just perfect.
actually I think you would arm your ejection seat once you're completely strapped into the seat. every aircraft I worked on, the pilot would "un-safe" their seat before cranking up the aircraft. it's something you don't want to forget, and a crew chief doesn't assist the pilot with the start up procedure until that is mutually confirmed as complete. 3:31
Best cold start video for the A-10C, it helped a lot how you explained each step and how the connect to other steps. The other videos didn't explain anything.
I think this might very well be the best dcs guide in youtube period. It shows that you love this plane and I'ts fucking awesome, Linked this to a friend who likes ground pounding and hasn't gotten his first full fidelity yet.

So much different from quick and shallow videos on you can find all around. Keep up the good work and thanks again mate! Really appreciated.
Ralfi, just as a point you do not NEED the APU Generator to run the turbine igniters. APU is only required to introduce air into the turbines. Motor starts, you can use the LEFT and RIGHT Motor/Igniter switches. Example: Left Motor start switch AFT, allow oil pressure to build to 20 PSI, introduce fuel (left engine to idle), left motor start to ignite position forward. Repeat for right motor.
I bought this game, ah, can't remember! These videos are what I had been missing. If Hotas prices ever level out, I just may be flying around 2023 or 24 or! Your very good at teaching. Thank you!
As someone who works on the A10 as a weapons loader, and is APU run certified, I can say the most unrealistic aspect is how smoothly the APU starts up. Those things are so overused and worn down that half of them take 30 seconds to actually spin up and shoot out big balls of flame. Other than having to flip a couple switches prior to APU start, it's very spot on.
Ralfi, I've been away from the sim for a literal eternity - 10 years. I can't believe how much I have forgotten. So I will be making heavy use of these in the world's most extensive refresher course. Thank you

Thanx for this. This is by far best A10 cold startup tutorial. Explaining what each button and system do3s, makes it logical, and much easier to remmember. Looking forward for more, and please make them like this one.
I learned the EGI alignment -> Nav Mode -> EGI -> EAC arm over years and screwing up and maybe bits and pieces from certain videos. EGI alignment takes a while so because of that, my own A-10C startup (for speed) powers up the CDU+EGI as soon as the APU generator is on, right before I start up boost tanks (seems to not be needed anymore in current cold start DCS state) + right engine. CDU+EGI does not run off of battery power.

It's well worth it once you've learned some basics - but the A-10C really is one of the most difficult modules to learn. It's possible, but don't beat yourself down too hard if you find things difficult and frustrating. Just take a break, let things cool down and return to it again :)
@13:12 I think that's supposed to be "Dispenser" instead of "Display" -- as that would be covered under the RWR switch. Again, I don't own the jet just makes more sense. (like the Viper)
Thanks a million, i started by ED training, but it confused me more than anything, after a few times with yours i am already getting to a flow and quickly memorizing the startup of the AC-10C II, so thanks a lot :)
Hey, I just got back from mountain home air force base in Idaho, where I got to fly in a full cockpit sim, and the pilot that helped (from my memory) did the exact same startup as you. Good job on finding your facts! Also, at the beginning, when he was doing the ins alignment, the pilot called the EGI the "EGGY" Lol Edit: I got to do it because my grandpa is friends with the retired Chief Master Sergeant of the base. I also got to sit in a Blackhawk.
Installed DCS about a month ago and made a purchase of the Winwing Orion 2 with F18 throttles and F16EX stick, first purchase was flaming cliffs, did that for a while to get familiar with the stick and feel of the game and now as a spur of a moment I purchased the most difficult plane to learn fly to - the A10C, oh what have I done :D Thanks Ralfi for a great tutorial, seen your video with Drewski, loved it and that was pretty much the time when I started looking to what DCS actually is lol. Would love to have a chat with you if you're keen.
Recently picked up a few DCS Modules (Including the A-10C) and have been working up the nerve to dive into the learning cliff. I got interested in DCS Mainly from you Ralfi, and looks like I'm going to be learning from you.
As an A-10 crew chief I can confirm start up is accurate, minus flight control checks and a few other things but it’s a game so it’s not needed. Sometimes I wish the pilots would shutdown apu after they get both engines going because the apu is louder than both engines and most of the time they don’t turn it off till they are taxiing
i'd recommend getting the kneeboard checklist mod from the DCS website and pull it up while starting up after watching this, it will jog your memory of the video and give you the order of startup.
Lol! Haven't flown the A-10 since the hornet was released, but jumped into the A-10C II yesterday and want to get back into it. I love the hornet, but I'm more of an A/G guy. As a Swede, I loved the Swedish disco this airforce is having at the end!
I'm very late to the party but wanted to say that your series is just awesome. I like the clarity of the explanations and the "why you do that" and "what happens if you don't". That only the first episode and I already know I'll watch all the following ones (thanks for ruining my upcoming night!!). Side note : I don't know what your graphic settings are (reshade maybe?) or if it's post editing of the video, but I like the "pale but dark tint" (I don't know how to describe it better) you have - the pale green of the displays is awesome and the yellow is not orange / red. Care to share? Thanks for the great work - Math, Call-sign "Honey Badger"
Thanks for the training videos and please keep them coming. I been wanttng to fly the A10 for so long. Soon I'll have my gaming pc ready and will definitely be watching your videos
I know this is an older video but the wind failing the engine start is realistic. In some planes 35 knot tailwinds or higher will prevent engine starts.
I'm definitely going to practice the fast start up and put it in my pocket, but I like the full start up with tests and everything to get me in the right mindset to play. I might even look into some fast response from cold and dark missions. That would be cool.
How do you get all the buttons and switches to work? On my dcs everything is kinda blurry and there isn’t a crosshair to where I can click buttons or flip switches

It's well worth it once you've learned some basics - but the A-10C really is one of the most difficult modules to learn. It's possible, but don't beat yourself down too hard if you find things difficult and frustrating. Just take a break, let things cool down and return to it again :)
Me...buy the new A10c II module...watch ralfidude tutorial...dream about actually getting back into DCS.
Really good work sir...Subscribed.
@13:12 I think that's supposed to be "Dispenser" instead of "Display" -- as that would be covered under the RWR switch. Again, I don't own the jet just makes more sense. (like the Viper)
You may very well be right.
Thanks a million, i started by ED training, but it confused me more than anything, after a few times with yours i am already getting to a flow and quickly memorizing the startup of the AC-10C II, so thanks a lot :)
Ah...
*so this is what drewski has to go through*
Nah, he said he used auto start
7:20 If you put AN/ARC-164 into "MAIN" you don't hear guard, it's better to use "BOTH", particularly with SRS running
Does anyone actually use guard in DCS?
Nope, hence why it's pointless
Hey, I just got back from mountain home air force base in Idaho, where I got to fly in a full cockpit sim, and the pilot that helped (from my memory) did the exact same startup as you. Good job on finding your facts!
Also, at the beginning, when he was doing the ins alignment, the pilot called the EGI the "EGGY" Lol
Edit: I got to do it because my grandpa is friends with the retired Chief Master Sergeant of the base. I also got to sit in a Blackhawk.
Man, what a great time to be alive, thank you for doing this, wish I would have had it a few months back...very useful. You Da Man.
RalfiDude,
Idk if you read the comments or not, but... From the bottom of our hearts, my son Fender and I, thank you.
very welcome
Awesome tutorial! Don’t forget the CTRL+P for lights work as selected in the panel.
As a Beginner,i think this is 'Perfect'👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌.
Excellent video. I appreciate the explanation not just the what buttons to push. Keep up the great videos.
Installed DCS about a month ago and made a purchase of the Winwing Orion 2 with F18 throttles and F16EX stick, first purchase was flaming cliffs, did that for a while to get familiar with the stick and feel of the game and now as a spur of a moment I purchased the most difficult plane to learn fly to - the A10C, oh what have I done :D
Thanks Ralfi for a great tutorial, seen your video with Drewski, loved it and that was pretty much the time when I started looking to what DCS actually is lol. Would love to have a chat with you if you're keen.
Quality tutorial. Got the full thing with explanation and reasoning behind the order of things as well as the faster way. Good stuff
iam a zero today and will be using your videos to be a hero in the future
This guide was really good, I was able to start it up from memory first try.
Excellent! This answered so many little niggling questions I had about various systems. Nice one, matey!
Recently picked up a few DCS Modules (Including the A-10C) and have been working up the nerve to dive into the learning cliff. I got interested in DCS Mainly from you Ralfi, and looks like I'm going to be learning from you.
Me, a dummy: Thanks, this is just what I needed to finally get me going on the A-10C, keep it up. 👍
Carameldansen was a nice touch. Such a pro Ralfi! :D
Welcome back, Ralfi. You know you cannot resist the POWER of the BRRRRRRT Side.
I've never seen such a good tutorial. You're great at this!
Best start tutorial I have seen and have seen a lot. Thank you.
i'd recommend getting the kneeboard checklist mod from the DCS website and pull it up while starting up after watching this, it will jog your memory of the video and give you the order of startup.
I was gonna buy the f-18 as my first module but this looks really rewarding to learn
Lol! Haven't flown the A-10 since the hornet was released, but jumped into the A-10C II yesterday and want to get back into it. I love the hornet, but I'm more of an A/G guy. As a Swede, I loved the Swedish disco this airforce is having at the end!
Great tutorial. I hope you will cover some other modules too. PS. TAD stands for Tactical Awareness Display (15:54).
Thinking about getting into DCS and might get the A-10 Module and probably the F-16.
Great vid! Im bored tonight so I feel like setting up the new A-10, and this is great coming from the Viper.
Thank you so much, this is by far the best and most detailed tutorial I've seen and this helps realy to understand the plane ❤️
Excellently presented tutorial - nice pace and style. Many thanks look forward to watching the rest of your A-10 C tutorials. Subscribed.
Best a10c tutorial series on the market!
Thanks for these RalfiDude, its been a while and I just upgraded the module so its nice to go over the basics again in depth. : )
Thanks for the training videos and please keep them coming. I been wanttng to fly the A10 for so long. Soon I'll have my gaming pc ready and will definitely be watching your videos
I am a retired AF avionics tech. I had no idea how realistic and detailed these sims were. I might actually buy a desktop and HOTAS now..lol
I know this is an older video but the wind failing the engine start is realistic. In some planes 35 knot tailwinds or higher will prevent engine starts.
Wow. I do things a little differently but this video definitely explains everything
Was absolutely worth watching to the very end. 😂
Yes! I was hoping for you to do these! It's amazing! I just took up DCS and the timing is perfect! Thanks ralfidude! Big fan of ya!
I'm definitely going to practice the fast start up and put it in my pocket, but I like the full start up with tests and everything to get me in the right mindset to play. I might even look into some fast response from cold and dark missions. That would be cool.
You are a natural teacher.
How do you get all the buttons and switches to work? On my dcs everything is kinda blurry and there isn’t a crosshair to where I can click buttons or flip switches
Not sure why I was really waiting for a joke around the INS like "if it doesn't know where it is, it can't know where it isn't."
