Behold, my first recording of the year. So, a little bit of background...my original plan was to record a 2001 from a distance. The dim sky and moody rain would make for a great shot. 6PM rolls around and I hear nothing from the scanner. Siren tests are rarely cancelled unless severe weather is expected. So I waited and waited, and...still nothing. At this point, everything is soaking wet. Time to pack, they probably cancelled. My dad snagged along and helped me get everything back into the car to dry. I kept my scanner on just in case. As we were leaving, dispatch announced they were about to conduct the siren test. I didn't have time to grab my camera, so I whipped my phone out instead and this video is the result. I'm guessing dispatch was just super busy that night.
Apologies for the guerilla-style videography. Thankfully my phone's internal stabilization helped smooth out some of the shake. Other than that, the siren ambience turned out great. If you watch my last "drive-by" siren recording, you'll notice that the Model 7 is back in business. The rain and dim lighting also gave a cool storm chasing vibe as well. I might need to try another one like this again.
Sirens in Dubois County are tested on the first day of each month at 6PM, with the exception of Jasper which tests at 4PM.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

1:27 that just sounds peaceful for some reason
Awesome! sure looks like a warning instead of a test! nice video! I'd say definitely try something like this again sometime!
A siren test in the dark during a rainstorm? Interesting...
Being half a mile between a 2001-SRN AND a Model 7 is unbelievable. The fact that you were underneath it was insane, it must have been LOUD.
A nighttime test in the rain! That’s gotta be crazy rare since practically all towns only test during the daytime, and a majority of towns will only test if the weather is clear.
No one tests sirens at night unless there is inclement weather and there is a reason to activate them
Maybe it was winter time and just gets dark early like 4:30
@@tsg931 Well not really, the ema gets to decide what time they want to test, but they first have to ask the state if they can test with the time they decided.

For some reason the model 7 sounds unsettling during tornados.
Whoa, a siren test during rain? Real cool
I stood in the rain for 30 minutes for a siren go off and it finally did after the rain stoped it was one of the coolest things I have ever experienced in my life!
So no one is gonna talk about the fact that there is ALSO an STH10?
That is one hell of an ambience. 12 port sirens at a distance always make for creepy recordings.
I don't really care for the sound of a 2001 or a Model 7, but when you are between both of them it sounds insane.
You should do more of these!
I am a siren enthusiast here in southeast texas and I love your videos
2001s make a hell on Earth ambienece
And a model 7 ofc lol
Imagine those with a 3T22/2T22
This is majestic holy crap! Great video btw.
I really liked this video! Seeing a postponed siren test conducted at 6pm during a rainstorm is awesome! My county wouldn’t have tested it at 6 and during a storm tho. Instead they would postpone it until the weather clears and they would NEVER test sirens at night unless the weather was severe enough to activate them and call it a severe thunderstorm but they rarely activate them during thunderstorms unless tornadoes are somewhat possible. Harrison County usually only activates them during storms when tornadoes are either somewhat likely, expected, etc but unless a tornado watch/warning isn’t brought up whether it would be later on in the day or very very soon, they won’t sound any alarms. So basically only if the word “tornado” and “Harrison County” is mentioned they’ll activate the sirens (but when the storms hit) and I haven’t heard a single siren in Harrison County activate during a storm since July 2018 when tornadoes spawned everywhere in the area and the weather was just “😟😬”
Edit: My county (Harrison) tests every first Saturday of every month at 12:00 could you visit New Middletown, Indiana and film the 2001-130 on New Middletown-Elizabeth Road on the property of New Middletown Volunteer Fire Department? Thanks XD
That's good to know, I've been thinking of stopping by Harrison County for storm/siren chasing if a severe storm is approaching. Dubois County always tests the sirens at 6PM, so it's not too unusual for night time tests here during the winter. There's a few other places near here that test late as well. It's not exactly rare. South Spencer County is a night time tester, same with Bloomington, Indiana and Dearborn County which test an hour later.

The weather and time of this test makes it look like a tornado warning lol. Probably scared a bunch of people.
Well there's a plus to that. They probably actually agnoleged the siren instead of just acting it as no big deal.
It doesn’t look like a test
It is it just happened to happen at a later time and since daylight savings is a thing it got dark much sooner than later for it to still be light out than usual
It Was A Test I Think The People Got A Heart Attack
2001's SRNS, SRNBS, 130S
Now that’s a spicy video right there
Also why they have activate them so many times XD
[New Years Eve 2022]
While people knew it's siren head approaching them, I hear it's just siren ambience.
First. Great vid btw
literally this town has scattered 2001s which is cool...
I like the STH-10 And Model 7, Really fits in with the 2001s. There was also a K5LLA at 4:03, It went: Honk Honk! Nonetheless, This ambience is literally bone-chilling and awesome at the same time. Just imagine hearing this in a tornado warning... Kinda reminds me of the Dodge city, OK Siren ambience.
Woah, was that during a tornado? (I know, just asking, how was the tornado?)
Not a tornado warning, just a late siren test in the rain
There it is!
Epic!
Damn that's pretty cool
Why test them during a storm XD
Edit: also why did they have to test it at night? at least test them during the day come on!
Sirens were tested at 6 PM but due to it being daylight savings it was already dark before the test.
The title says 2020 but in the video it says 2022
Fixed now lol. 2020-2022 it’s all starting to run together. 😂
@@DSRX100 ikr.
The ambience is amazing! Nice video
1:41 Just out of curiosity if you know, does that tower have anything to do with the radio system for tones and fire communications? I feel like communications towers, radios and sirens all kinda go hand and hand
That one I’m pretty sure is just a cell tower. You can see a 2001 though if you look close. This county’s main transmitter is more centrally located out in the country.
@@DSRX100 oh ok I gotcha, there’s a few locations near a city I live near that my radio gets overloaded by the signal strength, there’s a tower just outside the city at the actual dispatch center then another tower more in the central area of the city and both locations no matter what squelch level my radio receives just noise. Pretty interesting and thought you might think the same
…
How do you get to hear the signal to start the sirens
radio scanner
He has a radio
Also those “signals” are called dispatch tones
Sooooo scary.... ;) :) :p
DOA p50 one again #tornadosirenp50
Do a p50 one again #tornadosirenp50
There’s no way this was a test was this a tornado warning?
It was a test. They test at 6PM, it’s dark at 6PM on these tests currently due to daylight savings
@@brodiessirenproductions oh yeah I’m a fucking idiot
It wasn’t a tornado warning just a postponed test during a rainstorm. They probably postponed it since inclement weather was gonna hit soon but they probably decided to get the test over with and sound the sirens at 6 during a rainstorm instead of wait until tomorrow and it also seems like they were a bit busy that day as well
