  • The NYX 101 strain wave (harmonic drive) mount is Pegasus Astro's first entry into the mount market, and it's a good one! Pegasus have been in the astronomy game for quite a few years now and have brought some of the absolute best astronomy equipment to the market. With the NYX 101 mount they round out a full line of precision astronomy equipment and accessories.

    I think that having to remove locking screws from the mount to put it in its case is a MAJOR inconvenience. They didn't think of the case design long enough.

      It’s certainly not ideal but not a big deal overall.

    I buy all my gear from these guys, their great. Never had a problem with them, ever. I bought one thing from “All Star Telescope” and it showed up broken and missing parts, that was six months ago and zero support, just saying.

      FYI, I have had made purchases from both All Star Telescope and Telescopes Canada multiple times, (along with a few other Canadian retailers...it really comes down to who has the gear in stock, as well as shipping costs, sales, etc.). Fortunately, I have always had fantastic service from both of them (e.g. prompt shipping, quick responses to questions re products, excellent packing of shipped items, etc.).
      It certainly is quite unfortunate that you had a bad experience with the one item you purchased from All Star Telescope. I do have some questions regarding your negative experience: Was this item packed in the manufacturer's container/box, or was it a loose item without a container that was packed by All Star Telescope? Could the shipping company have been responsible? Did you receive no reply when you contacted All Star Telescope about the broken/defective item?

    Given that this is a 'harmonic mount' & it does not have encoders, the 'periodic error' is likely significant in magnitude & will include some rather sudden changes. So, how frequently did you have the guider make corrections to keep the RMS tracking at 0.5 arc sec or less?

      Pegasus recommend 1 - 1.5 sec exposures. I ran it at 1, 2, and 3 sec exposures and had similar results between all.

      It's a bit of lottery. Mine shows extreme PE. During a full cycle I about good RMS for a while and then PE kicks with up to 70 arcsec error in RA. With tracking only I get comet like stars. I guess I blew 4k € in the lottery

      @@roopey Wow! *70* arc seconds error?! That's ridiculous, and IMHO you need to return the mount or have Pegasus deal with it a.s.a.p.. IMHO, a 20 arc second error over a 4 or 5 minute time frame would be closer to the max allowable for a harmonic mount that doesn't have encoders, so 70 is insane. Realistically, autoguiding with very frequent corrections is the norm for harmonic mounts, e.g. 2 corrections per second. Ultimately, encoders are a must if one wants to image unguided & expects nearly all subs to have round stars...even then exposures probably need to be less than half of the mount's cycle (e.g. probably 120s or less per sub-exposure).

      @@derekbaker3279 Yeah, it's might be an defect. It goes 35 arc seconds in one direction then, sharply, almost as much in the other diection. I first thought it's a problem with the ground or maybe the Tripot. But best I got on concrete with good polar alignment was 0.9" total RMS with 500 ms guide exposure.
      What bothers me is, that I'm not sure it's a defect and not user error.

      @@roopey If the motion in either direction is sudden & around 35 arc seconds, there is a problem that needs to be solved. That's not normal IMHO. Unfortunately, I do not know the software or the mount, so I can't help you with determining the cause of the aberrant motion. I will heartily encourage you to contact the store which sold you the mount, and, if they cannot help you, don't hesitate to contact Pegasus directly. From what I have heard, they are pretty helpful (although, this being the holiday season, may mean that they are slower to respond than usual). I hope either your retailer or Pegasus can sort out the problem.

    C11 Edge HD with this mount without cunterweight ? Really?

    • @Telescopes-Canada
      @Telescopes-Canada  6 місяців тому

      Yeah it can do it. It’s certainly nerve racking but it can do it. I would personally probably still use a counterweight for peace of mind.

    strange i heard this can do 0.3 on tracing

      @Telescopes-Canada  8 місяців тому

      It’s definitely capable of 0.3 rms in good seeing conditions.
