- 'Rosen Auf Den Weg Gestreut / Embrace the Fascists' is a song by Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird from the album Partisans & Parasites (2009), based on a 1931 poem by Kurt Tucholsky (1890--1935), a German-Jewish journalist, satirist and writer.
Ihr müßt sie lieb und nett behandeln,
erschreckt sie nicht - sie sind so zart!
Ihr müßt mit Palmen sie umwandeln,
getreulich ihrer Eigenart!
Pfeift euerm Hunde, wenn er kläfft -:
Küßt die Faschisten, wo ihr sie trefft!
Wenn sie in ihren Sälen hetzen,
sagt: „Ja und Amen - aber gern!
Hier habt ihr mich, schlagt mich in Fetzen!"
Und prügeln sie, so lobt den Herrn.
Denn Prügeln ist doch ihr Geschäft!
Küßt die Faschisten, wo ihr sie trefft.
Und schießen sie: du lieber Himmel,
schätzt ihr das Leben so hoch ein?
Das ist ein Pazifisten-Fimmel!
Wer möchte nicht gern Opfer sein?
Und spürt ihr auch in euerm Bauch
den Hitler-Dolch, tief bis zum Heft:
Küßt die Faschisten, wo ihr sie trefft!
you have to treat them nice & gentle
do nothing rash, they're sensitive
you must be somewhat sentimental
respectful of the way they live
don't let your dogs attack them on the street
embrace the fascists where you may meet
if they should call for hate or violence
just let them talk, it is their right
& keep your protestations silent
you wouldn't want to start a fight
for fighting is what they do best
embrace the fascists & you'll be blessed
& if they fire their guns upon you
is life so precious in your eyes?
you would be sheep with wolves around you
why not be gladly victimized?
& if you feel inside your guts
the Nazi dagger's blade
embrace the fascists that you have made
Wow! Savagely brilliant words from the late Weimar period with newly-written music that fits perfectly. Unfortunately, very relevant today.
The music isn't "newly-written" - it was written by Hanns Eisler. What is new is the arrangement, and Daniel Kahn's excellent English translation.
Don't worry guys, if we give them the Sudetenland they'll leave us alone? Right guys?
Charlie Gerry Even before that, there were people that believed giving Hitler a chance in parliament would moderate his views.
The amount of times the Liberal order chose to appease them and the amount of times it didn't work and still they tried again is absolutely insane.
@@Korgull6669 "In two months, we'll have Hitler pushed into the corner that he squeaks!"
- Franz von Papen, about giving Hitler the chancellorship
@@Korgull6669 and they still do. Fascists come into German parliaments in two digit numbers and some conservatives think aloud about starting coalitions. Nazi preppers stash body bags and steal MP5s with ammo from the SEK (German SWAT) and conservatives scream terror at peaceful leftwing blockades. Is it really that hard to admit that you were wrong and that right wing terrorism is a thing?
I don't see what's wrong with buying time to prepare for war.
the instrumental is great
Still very relevant, and shockingly chilling to first hear this just after Christchurch. Don't give them an inch, folks.
You are the one who's on the wrong side of history chap
@@CaesarsLegion1 Silence Faschisten
@@CaesarsLegion1 Go build an empire to jack off to in a Paradox game. The world is changing for the sake of mankind, not shallow national pride.
@@CaesarsLegion1 So the right side of history is the one with church shootings?
@@thedeviantguy That's nothing to do with ideology, he was an Eco-Fascist who hated muslims. On the other hand are you on the right side when you are complicit with the opression of the working class and the many homeless children in the West?
A more accurate translation would be:
"Kiss the fascists where it hurts"
Which is the whole point of that song.
Never again.
Nice!
Liberalism: the Musical
This is a satirical song, you do realize?
I thought that was Hamilton.
@Ragnar Lothbrok The performers are socialists and the writers were very much on the left during the Weimar Republic. The sarcasm in the lyrics is truly amazing.
@Ragnar Lothbrok The song is describing the liberal "it's just another opinion" impulse.
@@ReneeVeritas it is, but the butt of the joke, are in fact, the libs and their passivness torwards fascists
we know it today so we know it yesterday or 100 years ago, but it is easy to close the eys and to say "it's not my problem" and so it's like the seasons they turn on and on. Today we are on the last days of autum and be afraid of the winter and hope the eyes are open and the first time we can survive all the cold winter . Today the fascists don't came with the old signatures , they comes with gas (for our houses), with oil for our cars . SO it is new and old and so long we don't live with open eyes we we will never can take them in the bin
Really can hear Noel Coward's Let's Not Be Beastly to the Germans coming through on this
