Don’t get me wrong, she’s definitely an inspiration but just wanted to remind whoever is reading through these comments that everyone has their own pace! Don’t worry! You were not placed on earth to be another Buddima. You be YOU! Take your own time cause life is not a race although society tries to say otherwise!
You have Dr.Buddhima who does a 9-5 job after being the youngest PhD holder and you have people like Gaia Kodituwakku who dropped out of university half way cause of depression etc and now working from home earning the same as Dr.Buddhima or even more.
What I’m trying to say here is that, everyone has their own destiny written somewhere. It’s up to you to know what to do with your life. It’s okay to be confused, it’s okay to fail. It’s okay to be a late bloomer as long as you don’t give up! Dr.Buddhima didn’t give up and neither did Gaia Kodituwakku. In my opinion the key to success in life is determination!

very well said. This is not to watch and think how late you are to finish your bachelor when you are 24 when she's done with her PhD too. But this inspiring story gives you many more important lessons how you can do what you want in your pace.

This girl attended a private school which was why she got her double promotions and was able to able to complete her a levels at 16 There are many students from international schools who have entered University at age 17 and graduated at age 20 but this is at Universities abroad

I should add that in the past in the 1960 s when admissions at younger ages were not too hard and double promotions were given students did A levels ( then called HSC) and entered University of Sti Lanka ( then called Ceylon ) with special permission from the Education Department at age 16 This was a very common practice among children whose both parents were teachers especially in rural areas I know two of these people personally I should also add that there are many doctors in the UK who have completed their Post graduate qualifications such MRCP and MRCS by the time they are 25 years There were many young people who completed their PHDs by 24 or 25 It’s also important to note that when doing a PHD one is specialising in only a minuscule section of a subject and that ones general knowledge of the subject can be superfial

    1) About starting school at 3 : I think she’s referring to Montessori- where many more children including me started when we were 2.5 years.
    2) She finished her ALs when she was 17. She was not the youngest. She sat for the exam with many others her age. Yes, she might have joined SLIIT in the same year, that’s true.
    3) She was not the youngest undergraduate at SLIIT. There were other students who I personally know in undergraduate programmes during the same time (who even graduated before her)
    4) These same people I refer to in (3) graduated one year before her and joined the SLIIT academic staff. Thus, she was not the youngest staff member either.
    5) Everyone (boys and girls in their 20s) leave their jobs to pursue their PhD. Some of them are capable for securing funding in reputed universities. But congratulations on your achievement! Im sure you undoubtedly did a great job at UoP
    6) And about being the youngest PhD holder 😂 I don’t even want to go there. Shes not even the youngest female PhD holder in South Asia. I know dozens of people from our region who got their PhD before or when they were 25 including Sri Lankan citizens (also girls) who graduated from many reputed universities including MIT
    Nevertheless congratulations on your achievements!

In sri lankans exaggerates everything. There are so many kids like those now a days who have finished their studies when they are 16 and 17 because they have done cambridge international OL and AL i hope she has received those benefits because of their parents specially her mom works in the education ministry. However i believe it is her luck what she has gained from her earlier lives.

In sri lanka no one is allowed to admit a school before 5th birthday because of this some people changed the BC of their children how she was adnitted to a gov school when she was three. In sri lanka now there are lot of younger kids who have done Lindon OLs when they were 13 or 14 yrs. But there are very exceptional cases it is ok but In the UK and USA are very concerned about the age of the children and do not entertain the younger kids wirh older children i personally belueve child 's real age is five yrs to start the school. She might be got that chace to go to the school when she was three as her mom was in the Education Ministry.

You cannot start with a government school when you are 3 years old. The principal will not admit the child. You are lucky that you had the necessary resources and the support of your parents. Unfortunately, most of the parents in Sri Lanka do not even know what the heck a PhD is. Success in life is relative. However, congratulations that you achieved a high level of academia! :) I hope you have the strength to do some sort of a change in the educational system in Sri Lanka.
