I've been telling my neighbors for years that a 4-5 foot wide raised bed is more than enough to grow some corn, but most of them don't believe it and just assume that they need at least a quarter acre planted to get good pollination and neat rows of kernels. Now, I can point them toward this video! Also, Albopepper showed how a person can even grow corn in containers as small as those large plastic totes. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for the tips! Got our first raised bed this year. 65 feet long by 3 ft. Got 3 year old horse manure in it topped with Walmart compost. Now we'll see the results. Just learning new stuff at 67 yrs old. Never stop learning! You were smarter than that wind storm! 😊
Am so glad you have returned. It just so happens, I've been trying to figure out how to grow corn in my small yard, and BINGO! You post a video.. Thank you sooo much!
Yay!!!!!! So glad ur back!😘😄😊🥰😂 Hope the wife returns too. It’s fun to c the two of you together. Thank you for sharing ur farming wisdom with all of us Bobby.
I'm so glad your back making videos. You inspired my gardening career with your Dutch bucket system. I have moved on to the 30inch bed system with my market garden business but anyway. You got me with the first new video big beef 2019. "Sheeew, man it's been a long time". I was saying A men to that brother. But I'm so glad to see you again hope all is well and thank you so much for the inspiration to start this gardening journey. So until next time mr mhp thank you!
Just wanted to say thank you again for being here. I am overjoyed to have you on my list again! I've never grown corn, but maybe next season I'll give it a shot. Lord willing, I'll see you next time!
Imma first time viewer. Love to garden. Am planting corn today. Off topic but my favorite UA-cam pastor is Andrew Henriques at midday power surge. Love life in the garden... where it all started.
1st video I've every seen from you, sir. Very concise information with valuable tips. I enjoyed your presentation and to top it off you genuinely seem like a nice guy. Rock on!
Oh man you’re back! I couldn’t be more excited. Hope you are around consistently again! Love your political, life views and the small amount you’ve shared about your real estate investing.
Good stuff brother... Thank you for sharing... We have good luck feeding 3 times... At planting, at 18" when we do our one and only weeding, and when 25% have tasseled... Then we hold off waiting for the first silks and begin counting off 19 to 21 days until it is time to start test harvesting... Again, so glad to have ya back ! Glad the wind did not steal your corn ! LOL Blessings.
Just got to say I learned so much from you and Donald . I miss the videos you guys made . I just started making videos because of you guys ! I started watching a lot of UA-cam because of you 2 guys . The corn looks awesome by the way !
Thanks Bobby. You are absolutely right about the wind and the nitrogen. My corn has blown down 5 times already this year and popped right back up. If it wasn't for supporting it I wouldn't have any left and I hilled mine both times I fertilized it. I'll be using liquid nitrogen between the rows the next time I fertilize because the corn is too big for me to get between the rows. My spacing is a little further apart than yours but my bed is wider too.
Last time I forgot to subscribe. This morning I see your video in my recommendations and repairing my mistake. Maybe in the futures some teachings from you, are welcome.
Every couple of days I would check my subscribe list to see if you had up loaded anything, never gave up hope because you have been very helpful to me. I had already dabbled in hydroponics but your low key simple manor gave me answer I wasn't finding anywhere else. I am so happy that you are back. God bless and hope to see you next time.
oh my lord. Like to fell out of my chair when i seen you were back. I wanted to say "thank you for everything". I have watched all your video's and listened to all the pod cast. Honestly i couldn't grow weeds but now i have a huge greenhouse and do 300 dutch buckets an growing like nobody's business. I supply my family, neighbors and the local retirement center with all they can eat. Local stores want to buy but there's just too much government red tape for me. The only lesson from you i haven't learned is " keep it simple stupid and don't try to reinvent the wheel". I'm getting there though. Have a blessed day....
So glad your back making videos again. Your test results and information are priceless. I sometimes think when putting manure on the garden, wonder if Noah used the animal waste from the Ark for his garden. :-) God bless you Bobby...............................Ken&Beverly
I used the "T" post and added concrete reinforcement wire at 2 levels to prevent wind damage, which somewhat worked. Did not have great success due to not fertilizing. Thanks for your help.
Was-hoo!! so very glad to see you back so glad. I just always know I can rely on your information with no worries. Thank you for this video. God bless!
I liked the idea about tying it up. I was thinking of making a frame out of PVC pipe and putting lattice across it for each plant to have its own personal stabilizer. Whatchoo think?
Starting out, just a basic multi purpose like 10-10-10. When it's time to side dress and add the nitrogen, I like ammonium nitrate 34-0-0. And make sure you water in the nitrate real good so it doesn't just sit there. If you're organic, there are a ton of different options for nitrogen.
Usually something like blood meal. If you look in the store, there's several different kinds. Most are fairly slow acting, so you don't have to worry about "burning" the plants.
Good morning, I have a question: This year is the first year I’m growing corn in my raised bed garden, the stocks are about 8 feet tall, nice and green, with tassels on top, but no corn. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you
I just bought a fertilizer called Miller sol- u- gro 12-48-8. I would like to combine it with the masterblend formula. I'm thinking about 6 grams each of all 4 parts. Could you check it out, and see what you think about working up a new recipe?
Yes mam, you can grow a lot of corn in that bed. Just make sure you have a way to support the stalks once they're in the 4 ft range to keep wind from blowing them over. Bobby
Triple 10 is usually a good starting point. As the plant grows, it needs more of the N than the P-K. I don't know how fast the organic options like blood meal or cottonseed meal would work. I think the reason for the Nitrate is the fact that it's soluble and gets into the plants in a hurry. If all you have is Triple 10, go with it.
This is mostly for fresh eating, but we did get several extra pints to go in the pantry. The silver queen isn't as big as the peaches n cream, but its a decent eating corn.
great tip-- here in southern ohio folks are just now getting to plant- we have had so much rain the past 4 years gardens have not done well- plus our growing season seems to have changed from april thru octoiber to now July thru December- we were still harvesting veggies at christmas last year- now thats crazy weather-- Blessings
We've gone from drought to flood, back and forth, feast or famine. I've never tried growing popcorn before. I wonder if they have a butter flavored variety ? :)

Thank God you’re back!!
Great tips Bobby. I'm going to try to grow corn next year.
Good idea about using posts and twine to prevent laying down.
Great corn video Bobby My grandpa was the king of corn in my eyes And he use the same techniques
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. We appreciate it.

I'm gonna try and stick around awhile. I have plenty of video ideas, just need the time.
Never had corn grow good for me. Your raised bed technique sounds promising. I'd like to try it out. 🌽 🌽 🌽
Good to see ya,
Whit
Very nice garden thanks for the tips.
MADE MY DAY - here you are again. So the question is - for a taste and production is it better to grow tomatos in dirt or hydro?
oh my lord. Like to fell out of my chair when i seen you were back. I wanted to say "thank you for everything". I have watched all your video's and listened to all the pod cast. It my opinion, the best fertilizer you can use is animal manure...horse, cow, rabbit, etc. It's a"miracle" worker. ;)
I used the "T" post and added concrete reinforcement wire at 2 levels to prevent wind damage, which somewhat worked. Did not have great success due to not fertilizing. Thanks for your help.
Thank you and God Bless
you sir are a good man doing what you do keep up the good work
Was-hoo!! so very glad to see you back so glad. I just always know I can rely on your information with no worries. Thank you for this video. God bless!
Thanks so much for the info...I had given up on growing corn but I'll try it again! ~watching from Norfolk, Virginia~
Hello neighbor !
Awesome Bobby, gonna try it next season
Right on
Thank you for the upload
🙂
Straight n to the point! Thx
WELCOME BACK BOBBY
I liked the idea about tying it up. I was thinking of making a frame out of PVC pipe and putting lattice across it for each plant to have its own personal stabilizer. Whatchoo think?
THANKS
Hey Bobby great video. Could you do this same type of video for tomatoes? I am always trying to improve my tomatoes. Thanks and glad your back!!!
What type of fertilizer do you use for your corn
Starting out, just a basic multi purpose like 10-10-10. When it's time to side dress and add the nitrogen, I like ammonium nitrate 34-0-0. And make sure you water in the nitrate real good so it doesn't just sit there. If you're organic, there are a ton of different options for nitrogen.
Organic here- alternate nitrogen?
Usually something like blood meal. If you look in the store, there's several different kinds. Most are fairly slow acting, so you don't have to worry about "burning" the plants.
Your knowledge and common sense approach was really missed Bobby. Appreciate the Video.
God bless you my good sir.
Yum!! My Silver Queen is just starting to come in too!
Thanks for the tips! Going to go plant a block this morning ...
I've been going with 1.5 feet between rows. Next year I'll try one foot.
Is it time to Kratky some corn?
Thank you sir
Blessings 🌹
Yess that corn .. thanx u.. 🇮🇩🇮🇩
Do you hand pollinate? How many inches spacing between your plants?
How do you keep your greenhouse poly so clean?(moss/ algi free?
Can you elaborate a little more on the Nitrogen fertilizer. When to feed and how much? Thanks.
Good morning, I have a question: This year is the first year I’m growing corn in my raised bed garden, the stocks are about 8 feet tall, nice and green, with tassels on top, but no corn. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you
What kind of fertilizer do you recommend as to the ratio ?
I didn't know Sue has a UA-cam site. Please share.
I just bought a fertilizer called Miller sol- u- gro 12-48-8. I would like to combine it with the masterblend formula. I'm thinking about 6 grams each of all 4 parts. Could you check it out, and see what you think about working up a new recipe?
How do you keep worms out of corn?
How do you use the Thuricide? Spray application??
Thanks Daniel
Yes, mix it per the instructions.... 1 tablespoon per gal in a one gallon sprayer. It doesn't smell very good, but it sure does work.
Why kill the worms? Do they eat the roots?
Is it possible to grow corn in a bed that is 8 ft long and 3 ft 6 inches wide? I have one of those Greenland's beds.
Yes mam, you can grow a lot of corn in that bed. Just make sure you have a way to support the stalks once they're in the 4 ft range to keep wind from blowing them over. Bobby
Bobby what's a good fertilizer to feed corn besides what is called soda? thanksWould 10-10-10 suffice?
Triple 10 is usually a good starting point. As the plant grows, it needs more of the N than the P-K. I don't know how fast the organic options like blood meal or cottonseed meal would work. I think the reason for the Nitrate is the fact that it's soluble and gets into the plants in a hurry. If all you have is Triple 10, go with it.
What do u feed the corn? Any products u can recommend? 😊
God bless. ❤️
Can you use miloranite for Nitrogen with corn?
Their website says it's 6-4-0 and a slow release. Likely not the best option for corn.
How is your planting going? Can we get an update?
Working on it. Bobby
@@mhpgardener Great looking forward to it. thanks!
Is there a vegetable this guy doesn't know how to grow and grow well?
Feed the Corn and it will Feed you.
'Lodging".
App stinks annoying
Great info. 3 rows wide in a 4 ft wide bed, but how far apart are the seeds in the rows? I want to try this next year in my raised beds.
Just learned something new about corn, I guess that is why my corn never grows properly. Thanks. Glad you are back.
Thanks for the video.
Great advice, never thought to do corn that way, next year I will try it.
Interesting - never seen corn in a raised bed! Everything else, but not corn. Cool if you can grow a sufficient quantity
I have 2×6 beds, do you think I could plant corn in those? I have 3 lined up end to end.
So crazy happy that you are back.
What great info! I enjoy this channel, real knowledgeable advice! Now if I could just figure out what to do about those pesky raccoons!
My corn had too much pest pressure and didn’t make it thanks for the video
My corn drowned this year but I still got some colored pop corn. Blessings
We've gone from drought to flood, back and forth, feast or famine. I've never tried growing popcorn before. I wonder if they have a butter flavored variety ? :)
