I think archer unit is a very complicated unit as they required a lot of experience on how to place the unit in each map, and where to counter the opponents' archers. The angle and distance matters how an arrow fly from them. Different archers has a different curve, like the namkhans has a slightly higher curve than imperials in short distance on the flat ground?! (Or it is my illusion?) All in all, archers is not like musket units that they will fire what they see with slight angles, sometimes they can just stand on ground and land arrows across a building or so.
High Ground not only extends your range, but also your Field of Fire. The only Cover I'm worried about is Trebuchets (And to a lesser degree Hero Artillery, especially grapeshot.) I'm not really worried about other Archers unless I'm outnumbered, because that's paper cuts paper. You have to watch out for Rock (Heavy Shields, usually Spearmen with tower shields, but also Pavises, and Javelins...) and Scissors (Cavalry) Your hard counter is the Shield Charge, so Ironcap Swordsmen, Men@Arms, Expedition Knights, Paladins... These outplay you by Maneuvering, it's not a straight up Rock/Paper Scissors. Watch your flanks, especially your rear, unless you have a tower with only 1 way up. In that case, park your Hero guarding that 1 way up. Against other archers, just have more/better archers. Longbows outrange anybody. Prefecture can out-DPS most (Yes, any Archery unit can get Arrow Rain at the cost of a slot. Prefecture Archers can use all 5 slots, instead of using one to get Arrow Rain.)
I actually counter Archers in Sieges with Javelin Militia (Or ImpJavs) because they have a ranged Burst, Shields, and a Charge. If you just form-up, and trade with most Archers, you're going to run out of ammo. However, you can form up, throw, then charge, and mop up. The Shields just reduce your casualties in the short window that they have to shoot back. Also, Nodachi, Glaive, pretty much any melee Hero with a large AoE swath. If you don't have a counter unit, the other option is to park your unit under cover (Wherever the Defensive guys are parked) and go out hunting Archers. They're not all that hard to find, once they start shooting, there aren't too many spots they can shoot at you from that angle. You have to know the maps, though. The best way to learn all those spots is by running Longbows there.
I ran into Namkhans for the first time yesterday and they are so brutal, do you have any tips on how to deal with them at lower lvl or can i just not engage them effectively? They locked down an entire area of the map and cost the game because they just cut through units like an mg42 :(
Depending on if they are leveled you can out range them with certain archer units. I try to get a team mate to distract them and take them out with a prefecture archer arrow rain. You can see how quickly they annihilate archers during the clip about arrow rain
Rule number one of archers: no archer can beat namkhans, the most obvous counter is shields, use them to move other troops and coordinarte with your team so shields go first or at the same time, another counter would be speed, condos or cav whenever you can, and finally if you cant reach them, a treb is always worth against namkhans
Hello Unfit, can I please ask - Is it better to use Legendary support units which cost a fortune in points, or instead, use like 2 blue units? Or even 2 blue and 1 green Unit? Are the purple and legendary units actually worth how many points they cost to use in battle?
It is generally a better idea to use purple units. Legendary units are also generally worth it, but that depends on which and the situation. There are a few blue and green units that are worth filling in with. I normally run 2 purple and a blue, or 3 purple when I have the leadership
They are situational. The bodkin tip helps you take out heavy armor units, but I would rather take prefecture for general damage or for sure namkhan if possible for that bleed.

They will beat any other archer unit as well, as most archers run anti pierce, they have the advantage there on them as well, not to mention health and stats overall , they have the best. These are the best archers in the game, not sure why people don't realize that. I recommend you actually get them and play with them. The tiny range advantage, what is it less than 10 units? that vasal has is negligible.

More like 30 mate, actually a VERY BIG DIFF over any other archer. Also, their 1 skill targets enemies around the circle in a big area, even if they don't directly see the enemy, they still hit. They are the best anti-range archer in the game by far, due to that 1 skill, highest range and dmg per arrow. I am sorry, but you are overrating imperial archers a lot. They are not even top 3 archer units all things considered.
Not at all. With the changes to fire in season 5 they even got better. In later games so many units have resistance to fire that I find them not as worth my leadership. Though I want a set on my team to make kheshigs cry
Not at all I absolutely love Elite Fire Archers. Maybe not for a TW (depends on your enemy) but they are very effective. cool video. yeah imperial archers do more damage than Vasal, they can damage heavy armored units. tankier too.
tip. put attires on namkhans so they wont be recognized
Also put light attire on imp pikes to look like pike militia

You can. The issue is they can be easily picked off by someone since it is hard to keep track of them.
