Loved that the whole video as dedicated to the calves Josh. They are the start of the process of rearing and you have the perfect attitude and demeanor in how you were handling them. Like most youngsters on farms, this was one of my first jobs and it was ingrained into me how to treat them, and get the best from them and in our case on a dairy farm having the best followers was crucial to the herd. Was great to see the company coming back to you about the little issue with the feeder. This is pretty rare these days, as customer service on the whole is going backwards. Thanks for taking the time to bring us these videos Josh.
Love watching these little calves. You are going to be one busy person caring for them and feeding them. You are the perfect person for this!! Keep the vids coming, enjoy watching your channel. 👍
Josh have you thought about getting a few more feeders for the pens that way you have a feeder for each pen and also getting extra teats for the feeders that way you got a set in some disinfectant then change them over after every feeding
I have a 3rd one I just haven’t got it out yet. I will do once the next batch of calves arrive as it will make it a lot quicker like you said! I do need to get some spare teats, haven’t got any here!
Calf pellets are very good too. I generally wash the milk dispensers out with the cold hose in a morning then on an evening hot soapy water with a drop of sterilising fluid. Then once a week I do them with the steam cleaner. Every little helps to keep the bacteria down
Nice one Josh you're doing an awesome job with the calves with twenty in group it takes time and patients to make sure their feeding and you did it so well When you have 120 thats going to make for a busy few weeks until their weaned off the milk You're explanation of the weighing of the milk powder and mixing and all you do makes it so interesting and i really like that Enjoyed the video as always looking forward to the next one
I recently watched a US dairy farmer putting his calves on an automatic feeder for tithe first time a few weeks ago. It wasn’t anything like this. It was quite traumatic seeing him lose his temper and slap the calves because they didn’t get what they were supposed to do. It’s a very different way of farming. I like it the way it’s done here.
I would say that slapping them wouldn’t help the situation at all. They can be challenging, but I always tell myself they are only a few days old, they don’t know any better!
Training them to drink on teats in small groups makes life easier at the start. Giving them calf crunch for the first 4 weeks works a treat because its very palatable and they love it, then put them onto calf nuts. Ur an excellent stockman.
Ive used these 20 teat feeders for years. I max out at 18 calves on each feeder to allow some shy ones a little space. Also when calves get stronger the bully boys can turn them over, just a heads up. Great work
Calves are happy and healthy looking ,a good system when you get into a routine ,hope you will have help when more come a lot of work for 1 guy,you have a good set up
I reckon you'll soon get sick of taking those feeders into the pens to feed them and getting pushed around. Just wait until they're twice the size. I would recommend feeders that hook over a gate rail.
Warm milk is a must in my opinion Warm water is better for cleaning the fats left from the milk powder Not a fan of those big feeders how do you know that each calf is getting 3 litres no more no less ? Stock board on pen decision gates to stop the spread of diseases from pen to pen , are you vaccinating for respiratory diseases ? Please keep calf updates coming Josh 👍
In answer to how much each calf is getting, I don’t know they are all getting the right amount. We will weigh them soon and make sure any of the lower performing ones get a bit longer on milk!

I was thinking to introduce pellets about 4 weeks old? Ah I see, yes I think I’ll treat them to a steam clean once a week!
Excellent like a giant milkshake machine lol, well done great video
Thanks Toni! Haha yes, could get a little side business selling milkshake from it!

Used these last year and they seemed to work just fine. I know what you mean though!
Love watching the calfs
They are so fun to watch!
Good luck naming all of Montys friends. 😊
How many weeks or months before they ate weaned of the powdeted milk mixture ???
Haha! I don’t think they’ll all get names! Once they are about 8 weeks or so they’ll be weaned!
It done it again it looped again 9:52
Right that’s it! I’m cutting the editors wages!
Great vid, some nice looking calves
Do you have any more mowing to do this year?
Thanks Jack! You’ll see very soon! 😊

I would use presure washer for cleaning, much faster.
Problem is when someone wants it to clean a tractor or machine it’s in the wrong place. Would be handy though
@@JMFarmingyou could nick the little pressure washer from over at Rowden!?
@@takemymother you are full of good ideas! That’s on the list for tomorrow!
So nice 🙂
🙌🏼
some good calfs where do u buy them from
Thanks Freddy! From a couple local dairy farms to us!
@@JMFarming fair enough we just got in some calf’s to
What are these calves for?
They will be split into 2 different grazing projects in the spring time!
@@JMFarming ah, thanks 👍
Them wee young calves need the milk heated up a bit if calf sucking a cow the milk is warm
Haven’t got the infrastructure in place to feed warm milk. They seem happy enough with it cold!
Gd gd video
Thank you! 🙌🏼
