That beautiful 7 string guitar is amazing, as is the whole band

Homura (flame) is a Machiya instrumental, Akatsuki no ito (thread of dawn) is also written by Machiya and is used as an encore chant by the audience.
The band was founded by Poet, pianist, composer and shigin singer Yuko Suzuhana in 2012, officially in 2013. They are now in their final year before going on an indefinite hiatus.
They will concentrate on their own careers outside the Wagakki Band.
They say in the press release that they will return in one form or another. Time will show.
The Wagakki Band is an 8 piece band and consists of:
    Yuko Suzuhana - vocals, piano
    Machiya - guitar, vocals
Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen (3 strings)
Kiyoshi Ibukuro - koto (25 strings, Japan's national instrument)
    Asa - bass
Daisuke Kaminaga - shakuhachi (bamboo flute)
    Wasabi - drums
    Kurona - wadaiko (traditional drums)
Recommend all the songs, but you can start with this one

Great suggestion. I love that in Hakushu Kassai each instrument is highlighted during the song.

You may not be surprised to learn your reaction is pretty much the same as everyone else's the first time they see these musicians perform - myself included, quite some years ago!

The Wagakki Band was founded by Yuko Suzuhana (main vocalist/keyboardist), who had long been concerned about the gradual decline of Japanese culture, including classical performing arts and kimono, and wanted to present a more POP image of Japanese classical performing arts to the world.
The band members are all professionals in their respective fields, and Yuko herself has won national championships in "Shigin," a unique form of singing ancient Chinese and Japanese poetry.

Yuko is the writer of "Akatsuki no ito" too. Beni Ninagawa (the shamisen player) is the writer of Homura

Both "Homura" and "Akatsukinoit" are composed by "Machiya," the guitarist.

@@ahodori-dl5hz Thanks por the information. In an interview (japanese tv channel), Ninawaga said that he composed it (or would it be his specific part?). Somewhere (I don't remember where) I read that Akatsuki... was write for Suzuhana. greetings from Spain

    坊主の人の楽器は「尺八」で竹で作られた物です。

There's eight members in the band. You should check out their live cover of Bring Me To Life, which includes Amy Lee from Evanescence, and a small orchestra

You're back! Great reaction. I love the incorporation of traditional instruments (koto?).
I remember hearing this type of Japanese singing from my grandma when I was little. Her favorite actress was Dorris Day, LOL!
Hanabie just released a new track called Otaku.
    You know what to do!👊🤘

These are my suggestions for you to try.
Kyouka Suigetsu + Tsuki Ni Sakebu Yoru ua-cam.com/video/aWlMc-pbDc8/v-deo.html This piece shows you what Wagakki Band is. It's an amazing fusion of heavy metal and Japanese ethnic music with smoking solo of every member of the band.
Haru No Umi ua-cam.com/video/xkBgCVQ1DlA/v-deo.html This piece is an old piece for Koto (the horizontal harp) and Shakuhachi (the bamboo flute) but arrangement is modernized with Shamisen (the three string banjo) and Taiko (the Japanese drums) additionally. It's instrumental and solos are phenomenal.
